Jill is a lifesaver .... With drywall repair going on at my house and Approx 48 hrs until the painter was ready to start a large project including our great room, kitchen and dining room I was overwhelmed with color choices and how to make them all flow together. I reached out for help on thumbtack knowing I needed an interior designers expertise as the large amount of wall space and Floor plan of our home is a challenge. Jill's response was immediate and she rearranged her schedule to accomodate my deadline. Within 24 hours of her initial visit to my home, she was back with paint chips and multi color schemes for me to choose from. She gave me suggestions on how to proceed, allowing me to make decisions but answering any and all questions I had. I learned a lot about paint in a very short time! Jill is energetic, enthusiastic and has an obvious passion for design and decor. She gave me some great suggestions for subsequent projects I have on my very long list. I will definitely call Jill for any design projects we have in the future.... It was a pleasure to meet and work with her!

Kim did an amazing job crafting a design plan for us. I am a Creative Director and was seriously stuck on my own design. I had an eclectic and traditional idea for my house but couldn't get my ideas together. She brought us idea that both my husband and I both loved. I would recommend her to my close friends and to anyone that wants a great looking house!

So far so good, came when he said he would, have me an estimate and I hired him. He'll be back tomorrow to start.

No job is too large or too small. I have done nursing homes and penthouses. I enjoy the work. I have even had a just-married couple who needed me to show them how to arrange their furniture. Color is usually the starting point. I have started with building in progress and moved walls to suit the floor plan. I work with all problems.

Because I am a recent graduate, I know the popular styles and trends. I also know several design software's that some of the older designers do not know. I am hard working and a people person; I always want to please my clients. I have a passion for design and I want to share my talent by helping others

I love design and I love to see other designers' work. Everyone has their own sense of style that hopefully doesn't get in the way of what your clients want. You want to see your clients' style expressed not yours. I like simple balance with a flair here and there of drama. Drama could be a bold wall color, an unexpected work of art or a unique choice of fabric. If you look at my projects, although very different, you will see a balance and a flow that combines elements of function, style and peacefulness. I really enjoy getting that special deal on an item or turning a sad throw away piece into a funky must have. My committment, knowledge and love of design makes my work stand out.

I offer full-service interior design, from framing of a new home forward to rejuvenation of existing homes. I believe that a house should be a home. That is a reflection of the personalities and interests of the people who live there. Any home can be functional and practical, as well as beautiful, comfortable and inspiring. I can help you, whether you are in the process of building a new home and choosing finishes or updating and adding a breath of fresh air to your already-loved home.

My main focus is on comfortable, easy going lifestyle

I received my decorating certificates from Dalton State College. I have had my own interior design business for years, working a full-time job in banking while doing interior design as sporadic design jobs became available. I worked through Jackson Realty as their interior designer for approximately 2 years. After moving from LaFayette, Georgia to Dalton, Georgia, I no longer work in banking, but rather, I'm looking for opportunities to use my skills and passion of decorating and event planning. When I first received my interior design certificates, I opened up a wedding rental business called Elegant Wedding Rentals located in Chatsworth, GA. I had this business for several years until I was 8 months pregnant and am up on ladders decorating for weddings. I decided it was time to take some time off to raise my children. The last large event I coordinated was a 50th birthday party. This event took place at the Chattanooga Choo Choo where a block of rooms were reserved for guests as there was an open bar. For guests wishing to drive home, a taxi service was available on site to keep everyone safe. There was a live band that performed, along with professional ballroom dancers that were hired to dance during the dinner portion of the evening. I took care of caterers and choose what would be prepared for dinner after finding out if any of the attending guests had any allergies. I had invitations sent out with dinner choices and to RSVP if they could not attend the event. I had a life-size cake with one of the birthday boy's best friends dressed up as a belly dancer inside, which turned out to be very amusing. There were life-size cut-outs of ballroom dancers. Balloons are everywhere and a memory table set up where I had pictures of the birthday boy blown up poster size. His letterman's jacket and high-school track pictures and awards are displayed. His pilot's license was blown up along with a picture of him with his airplane. The party was a huge hit. The hostess was very impressed and her word-of-mouth recommendations have led to some smaller events. Also, the largest interior design jobs I have done were for the President of Galaxy Carpets and the Vice President of International Sales and Marketing for Mohawk Industries.

We provide stunning interior design, staging, color palette, art and accessories -- entire house of just a room! I have more than 25 years of experience. I am detail oriented, and I will create a beautiful, livable space for you! I do rustic and contemporary styles.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
