Jason cleaned out all my gutters on my two story townhome and also did maintenance by re-nailing the gutters which had pulled loose. He used trash bags to put leaves and pine straw into and did not leave any debris on my property. Excellent service!

Not only did they go beyond and above what I was expected! they offered to do more to make sure their quality of work was par to none! One of the fairer priced contractors in this state and they aren’t afraid of work! Not only did they do what I hired them to do but they completed several smaller projects I asked them about. They are quick, valued correctly and high quality! every employee I talked to was very respectful and seemed to want to tackle the objective at hand. I for one will be keeping their contact information at the ready for any future home projects I may have. Great contractor and great company overall! Again can’t believe how lucky I got to have this guy respond to my ad. Just another man living the Honest American dream! Will have his contact info in my phone for years to come.

Do not hesitate one moment to hire Eastin Home Improvement as your contractor for your repairs and/or new home projects! I just purchased a new home and had multiple projects to get completed. I found this company on Thumbtack, and I am thrilled I did. Besides being a very competent and highly skilled contractor, his polite manners and professionalism are wonderful. Andrew completed numerous projects in my home that involved electrical, plumbing, drywall and home theater installation. The installation looks better than any I have seen in my friends' homes and the drywall work looks perfect. Andrew has vast experience in home remodeling and commercial work. So I appreciated his bid on my Thumbtack project. He was a delight to work with. Honest and efficient. He took time to clean as he worked along, so much so that I had to do nothing after he left my home. Everything was completed to precision, and he his experience proved itself with the difficult tasks I had on his to-do list. Andrew is a great listener and he makes sure you are pleased every step of the way. He also is a creative, quick thinker that can solve those pesty, complicated projects around your home. And he does so with eagerness and calmness. You will be very pleased to have Eastin Home Improvement take care of your needs. I will continue to use his business in the years to come. It is very nice to find someone that you can trust and that can quote you fair pricing. And get the work done with excellence. P.S. As Andrew was doing electrical work in my home, he detected faulty and unsafe wiring and brought it to my immediate attention. He quickly repaired the issue and I feel I can definitely trust Andrew from this point forward. Also, it was terrific to see him clean all his tools and organize them so well in his truck, that just goes to show he takes great pride & gratitude in his company and equipment.

I can't say enough good things about my experience. Having worked with many independent contractors in the past I must say that working with Arturo was a very positive experience. He is top notch in every way right down to the way he treats his workers. He is a good man and wants the customer to be happy with the work. I am very happy with my new countertops and backsplash. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

We hired D B Handyman Services to install new tile on our fireplace hearth and couldn’t be happier with the results or the experience we had during the project. David is a truly skilled craftsman who not only has pride in his work, but also cares about making his customers happy. Being owners of a home that is over eighty years old, we have had many occasions that required us to carry out the often annoying chore of hiring those with construction skills. We saw the travertine tile installation for which we hired David as more than your typical handyman project, but not quite big enough to hire a contractor. However, as many simple home improvement tasks are in older homes, what looked easy from the outside was not quite as straight-forward once we started preparing the site. Lucky for us, David sensed our concern and handled everything in a thoughtful and reassuring manner that gave us peace of mind so that we could relax and know that the job was going to be done right. Not only does our tile look fantastic, the floor supporting it is now more than adequate to insure that the hearth survives another eighty years. We already have David lined up for another project and are now inspired to move ahead on others that we had given up on because we didn’t believe they could be taken care of without a lot of frustration. Though I am cautious in writing such a positive review, as I want to make sure that he is available to us when we need him, he deserves as much work as he can get and it would be unfair of me not to spread the word. If you are looking for someone who is good at what he does, creative, and fair, you have found him here.

I had initially hired a handyman to do some work around our new house, and there was some drywall that was stained from an old leak. Our handyman tried to repair it, but ran into some issues getting it flush on the ceiling. While he knew drywall, he was not an expert. In comes Mike with MVM Construction, and he was able to swing by, take a look, give me a reasonable quote, and had guys there by that afternoon since I was hoping to get it done before move in! Whatever issue our handyman ran into was no problem for Mike's guys. They quickly patched things up, and it looked beautiful. As they were doing the work they made some marks on the wall, so while the drywall mud was drying, they took a trip to the store, got a perfect match on the paint color for the wall, and fixed that, too! That gave them the time to put on the second coat of mud, get the ceiling painted, and you'd never know the drywall was cut out. Very impressive work. The quote was a little higher than others I had received, but it was worth every penny.

I had a French drain dug along one foundation wall and the wall waterproofed due to a small incoming water issue. Brian and Alan sent a great crew ( Nick and Lance ) who completed the job in less than 2 days - manually digging with shovels! They even worked overtime to finish before a huge rainstorm hit Nashville. ( I was glad they didn't use a machine/backhoe, which prevented any catastrophes.) Brian came out several times to inspect the job and even helped me install a new mailbox post out front... for *free*! Now tell me, what contractor would do that?!? They also came back and leveled, seeded and strawed the whole thing....excellent work. These guys know what they are doing and give great value at a very reasonable cost.

Jeremy is not the cheapest nor the most expensive contractor we interviewed, but we could not be happier with the finished product. Craftsman quality work and huge value for the money spent. We have recommended him to our own family for their home addition. No cut corners from these guys. Don't let Jeremy's quiet demeanor fool you. He knows his stuff.

I hired Chris through my realtor who referred him to us. My family and I were in the process of moving to Tennessee from Wisconsin. My realtor recommended Chris to give us an estimate on few work inside our new home. This work was done right after the closing. Interior painting in several rooms, new carpet in the living room, hardwood flooring refinishing and trim work (add deco trims). Chris and his team went in there and completed the whole project in 2 weeks, just in time for our arrival. We did a final walk-through. My wife and I were very impressed with the quality of work his team did. I have to say Chris was far the best contractor I have worked with. I have done business with many contractors up in Wisconsin. Chris' professionalism and responsiveness were what we expected from a contractor. We love our new home and cannot wait to raise our children for many more years. Thank you Chris for the amazing work you and your team did on our home. We are very pleased with the outcome.

I used Kemp Outdoor Solutions to install an irrigation system for my new home that I recently purchased. I had three estimates and decided to work with Rusty because of his fair price, the time he took to explain the system and for the materials that he recommended. Rusty took the time to explain the different sprinkler heads, number of zones and zone placement. He was the only contractor who took the time to do this during the estimate process. Once started, Rusty and his crew worked nonstop installing the system. Rusty personally laid out the system for his crew to install. When Rusty was gone, Zack (Rusty’s supervisor) and the crew worked nonstop in 95 degree heat installing the system. The crew worked extremely neat, was very polite, and cleaned up every night leaving my yard intact as much as humanly possible. The crew took the time to repair my yard from trenching, raked and compacted the soil, to enable my lawn to recover quickly. Once installed, Rusty personally adjusted all the heads to provide optimum coverage. Zack took the time to explain my “smart, wifi connected controller “which I absolutely love. I decided on this controller based on Rusty's recommendation and as far as I am concerned, was a home run. To be honest, being a retired builder and residential home inspector from up north, I tend to be critical on contractors in general. There was absolutely nothing for me to be critical about. I found Rusty to be head and shoulders above most contractors I have dealt with and I would definitely not hesitate to recommend or use Kemp Outdoor Solutions in the future.

We used Brant Taylor to remodel our house. I met him as he was working on another house on our street- I was considering a similar project so I introduced myself. He was a really friendly guy and after a quick conversation he came by the house and immediately offered input on the project. He ended up turning our garage into a bonus room (complete with surround wiring and theater projector built in) and our carport into a three season, screened in porch with a custom, modern style fireplace. Overall we are 1000% satisfied. He was in tune with our wants, went out of his way to work inside our budget, and seemed to really care about our project. He did little things extra just because- like hook up the water line to our refrigerator while he was working in the wall. Imagine coming home to that! He made it his own and it shows in the quality of the work. We would recommend him to anyone considering remodeling. Out of the three contractors we had bid, his price was competitive. What sold us though was his presentation, his upfront approach to cost management throughout the project, and his overall zealousness for the project. We did see some delays do to the nature of the project and out of control of the contractor. These were met with solutions and we were happy with the time frame in which everything was completed. Overall, we are extremely happy (if you can't tell). We highly recommend this contractor to anyone considering work being done to their home.

Clint with CAP Signature was one of the most professional sub-contractors I've ever dealt with. He communicated well, sending me text photos of his progress while I was out of town (And I didn't even request them!) He has a strong work ethic. If he wasn't on the job he would tell me why via text (waiting on materials, etc.) And while painting might not be his forte, word-working most definitely is. He is meticulous: in replacing some rotten stairs he even took the initiative to include lattice on the sides so that larger critters couldn't get inside. I most definitely will hire him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
