We bought an older home in Donelson that needed some serious kitchen updating and repair from the 1960's construction. We had a vision on what it could look like. JAZ construction made it all come true. They are outstanding, professional contractors who look out for your satisfaction and pocketbook, every step of the way. We could not be happier in the process and outcome of our kitchen. I would never go anywhere else for remodeling needs. Jose and Fernando are All-Stars. These guys are the best!!

I hired Chris through my realtor who referred him to us. My family and I were in the process of moving to Tennessee from Wisconsin. My realtor recommended Chris to give us an estimate on few work inside our new home. This work was done right after the closing. Interior painting in several rooms, new carpet in the living room, hardwood flooring refinishing and trim work (add deco trims). Chris and his team went in there and completed the whole project in 2 weeks, just in time for our arrival. We did a final walk-through. My wife and I were very impressed with the quality of work his team did. I have to say Chris was far the best contractor I have worked with. I have done business with many contractors up in Wisconsin. Chris' professionalism and responsiveness were what we expected from a contractor. We love our new home and cannot wait to raise our children for many more years. Thank you Chris for the amazing work you and your team did on our home. We are very pleased with the outcome.

We used Brant Taylor to remodel our house. I met him as he was working on another house on our street- I was considering a similar project so I introduced myself. He was a really friendly guy and after a quick conversation he came by the house and immediately offered input on the project. He ended up turning our garage into a bonus room (complete with surround wiring and theater projector built in) and our carport into a three season, screened in porch with a custom, modern style fireplace. Overall we are 1000% satisfied. He was in tune with our wants, went out of his way to work inside our budget, and seemed to really care about our project. He did little things extra just because- like hook up the water line to our refrigerator while he was working in the wall. Imagine coming home to that! He made it his own and it shows in the quality of the work. We would recommend him to anyone considering remodeling. Out of the three contractors we had bid, his price was competitive. What sold us though was his presentation, his upfront approach to cost management throughout the project, and his overall zealousness for the project. We did see some delays do to the nature of the project and out of control of the contractor. These were met with solutions and we were happy with the time frame in which everything was completed. Overall, we are extremely happy (if you can't tell). We highly recommend this contractor to anyone considering work being done to their home.

What impressed me the most is that my first contact with Howard was on a weekend day. He actually pick up his phone, that act proven to me that he very hands on and value his response to his customers. Prior to hiring Faith Construction team, I've had terrible experiences with other contractors trying to renovate this two bedroom house. Hiring Faith Construction team has proven so far, to be a good decision because all the promises that Howard made to me to get the job done is coming to reality.

I had these guys bail me out of a jam I had gotten myself into with some electrical work. I had one contractor leave me hanging for weeks (6 weeks to be exact). Found these guys called them, they came, they saw, they did. What set MCH apart for me is that they did what they said they were going to do and did it when they said they were going to do it. Its amazing that this is still not the norm for contractors these days. But MCH Restored my confidence, at least for the time being.

As a business owner in Hendersonville who works with youth programming I have the opportunity to enjoy conversations with customers from all areas of Sumner County. When conversations turn to the topic of construction or remodeling most people will share horror stories about how they call and the contractor who guarantees they will show up but never appears at the scheduled time. Worse is when they show up, walk out during lunch hour and never return to finish their work. If you are looking for a honest, dependable, straight forward person who can help you build or remodel your home or commercial business property then I highly recommend Mike Woerth. Mike is one of those "Jack of all Trades" type of guys who can tackle just about any project you throw his way. My wife and I have done business with Mike since 1996 both on homes we have added on to or remodeled, and our commercial building that has required an enormous amount of work since we opened. Mike is trustworthy and will go above and beyond the norm to insure that the job is well done. He has "come to the rescue" on several occasions where emergency repairs were required after hours or on the weekend whenothers were "unavailable". Mike is creative, thorough in detail, and takes pride in his craftsmanship. I highly recommend him to you for your next project!

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION for: Tim Wolf of Wolf Home Improvements by: John. Carlisle (homeowner) Mount Juliet, TN Tel.: 615-717-5371 Date of remodel: October 25, 2016 To whom it may concern: It is my pleasure to write this unsolicited letter of recommendation on behalf of Tim Wolf. Tim was the general contractor for a remodeling project on the exterior of my house in the fall of 2016. I had no prior relationship with Tim, who was recommended by an architect friend of mine. The scope of the remodeling involved window replacement (22 windows and 3 patio doors), siding replacement (approximately 4000 sq. ft.), replacement of 2 decks along with installation of stainless steel cable railing, and roof replacement (approximately 2400 sq. ft.) for a three level house built in 1978. The project took 8 weeks and involved 4 work crews (carpenters, siding, painters, roofing) plus electrician and structural engineer, at a budget of just over $100,000. While major remodeling is inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Tim's services as a general contractor were invaluable, and I am extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Tim top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently top notch. Tim used subcontractors who were knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in their respective trades. They were conscientious about following project specifications, and their work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work crews. Other than one relatively minor exception which Tim promptly addressed once I brought it to his attention, the workmen whom Tim utilized were professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of the homeowner’s property and privacy. They had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. Their pride in their work was evident. They tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found them to be trustworthy, and my wife and I felt comfortable with allowing them access inside our home. 3. Project management and coordination. Tim's prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of our project, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities of different work crews effectively. He remained closely involved in overseeing the project from start to finish. His excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills and commitment to follow-through are assets which enabled him to juggle the extensive details involved in our project without missing a beat. Tim's familiarity with building codes and dealing with city hall also facilitated a smooth and hassle-free process when it came to building permits and inspection. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the project, I was impressed with Tim's commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. When situations arose where extra work needed to be done (because of hidden problems that were not apparent until work on the house had commenced), Tim either (if it was relatively minor) took care of it without charging me extra, or (if it was more extensive) involved me in an informed decision making process that culminated in a change order which was fair. In another situation in which I was not satisfied with the aesthetics of nail holes on the siding battens even though the latter had been installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, Tim agreed with me and arranged to have the nail holes filled and battens painted - a job which involved many additional hours - without passing the expense on to me. 5. Effective communication. Tim kept me closely informed of work crew schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of our project. His communication (whether by cell phone or email) was always clear, informative, and helpful. He was either available on his cell phone, or returned my phone call within 2-3 hours. We never had a single miscommunication throughout the 2-month project. His communication with the work crews was just as effective. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall, structural problems with the existing cantilevered joists for an upper deck), Tim worked diligently with me to identify a solution that was acceptable to me. He utilized resources effectively (e.g., enlisting the services of a structural engineer in a limited fashion) and creatively (e.g., identifying a special type of edge vent for my roof that had minimal overhang), and directed the work crew to make changes necessary for implementing the solution. 7. Responsiveness to homeowner’s needs and concerns. Tim's commitment to homeowner satisfaction was evident in his actions. On the few occasions when I brought a request or concern to his attention (e.g., when I wanted the roofing done before all of the exterior painting was completed), he listened attentively, and always took appropriate action that demonstrated responsiveness to my needs or concerns. When the painting crew fell behind of schedule, Tim showed up on a Saturday and helped with the exterior painting. His service orientation is truly described by the motto: “The homeowner’s needs come first.” 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Tim gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the project. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. Same with the change orders. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Tim delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price. 9. Value. I had solicited three bids for my remodeling project. Although Tim's bid was not the lowest, I am absolutely convinced that he delivered the best value (in terms of the work done) for the price. 10. Sensitivity to work site appearance and neighbor relations. Our project required a huge dumpster and a portable toilet (for the work crew), and there was very limited parking. Tim's placement of the dumpster, portable toilet, and construction materials was based not solely on function and convenience, but showed a consideration for the aesthetics of the work site. The work crew parked their vehicles in ways that were minimally disruptive to the neighborhood traffic, and their conduct never caused any discomfort to our neighbors. In the two months during this project, there was not one single neighbor complaint! Instead, three different neighbors passed on compliments about the work crews (e.g., “those guys really work hard”). In closing, I am very pleased with the final product which Tim was instrumental in delivering, and I am extremely impressed with his work as a general contractor. In a world where shoddy workmanship and poor service are unfortunately all too common, Tim is indeed a rare find. I have been a homeowner for over 30 years, and I took this unprecedented step of writing an unsolicited letter of recommendation for Tim because I believe that exceptional work should be recognized. I would not hesitate to hire Tim again, or to recommend him to my friends and neighbors. I recommend Tim Wolf to you most enthusiastically, and without any reservations. If you have any questions about my experience with Tim, please feel free to call me at 615-717-5371 John Carlisle A very satisfied homeowner

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
