Introduction: I have been teaching full time since 2005. It is not a hobby, it is what i do. I have the patience it takes to teach ages from seven and younger to seventy and older. I love helping bring out the joy of music in others. I focus on teaching you what you want to learn, rather what I want to teach you. I teach all styles except Classical. I also teach beginning bass and ukulele. Lessons are online. I use Muzie.live -a platform designed for music lessons from the ground up. I can also use FaceTime, Skype, and Zoom. The first lesson is free so can evaluate. If you are comfortable with my teaching style then we can continue on a monthly, or even week-to-week basis. There are no long term contracts. I enjoy the interaction with my students. I enjoy sharing information. I love learning with my students. Teaching is a privilege that i take very seriously.

My 12 year old daughter has been taking guitar lessons from Robert for almost four years. He is a great instructor, very patient and very flexible with schedule changes. She has leaned so much working with him! We highly recommend for guitar lessons.

My son has been taking guitar lessons from Robert since he was 8. He has shown great improvement and receives lots of support from Robert. Robert is willing to help him with any song he wants to try to play. During a lesson they will both sit and figure out the notes for a song and practice them. Robert will help them sing and preform. My son has really improved and has added extra lessons. He is always flexible and great with moving lessons around to accommodate changing schedules. When covid hit he adapted and we really like his online format. I would highly recommend Excellent Guitar Lessons.

Before taking lessons with Robert, I had no musical experience other than the recorder in 3rd grade (and I started guitar lessons when I was over the age of 40). I couldn’t tell the difference between an extension cord and a power chord. Within a short period of time I could strum basic cords and make music my family could sing along to. My musical taste is quite eclectic and Robert has helped me learn songs from John Mellencamp, Jason Isbell, The Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Billy Idol and even Guns n Roses. He is always there to help simplify a difficult music passage and instruct me in music theory to help me understand the way a song is put together. Taking lessons has been one of the best things I have done to help with relaxation and distraction from work. I highly recommend Excellent Guitar Lessons, you will not be disappointed.

My son has been learning under Mr. Robert for the past two years and it has been an incredible experience. Lessons are fun and productive and keep my sons attention while also making him look forward to the next lesson. My child takes lessons with Rob online and we couldn’t be happiest with our experience. He’s always patient, makes the lesson fun, and brings a positive energy to their time together. I was hesitant about it being virtual but it’s been perfect. Even my dog feels like he’s in our living room (as she barks when she hears his voice start the lesson, ha!), and we love the convenience of not having to leave home. I highly recommend you give him a try for yourself or your children.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Tuition is $120 for monthly half hour lessons. If a student starts in the middle of the month then lessons are pro-rated at $30 per half hour lesson. Your first lesson is free so you can evaluate. Sometimes the first lesson involves technical glitches to work out as well. There is no need for you to pay for that.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I look forward to explaining how the lessons work and answer all questions. Contact me by phone, email, or text. Whatever is most convenient for you. There are a few video lessons on my website if you want to get a feel for my teaching style. There are no costs or ads associated with my website.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing music in bands since 1967. I took a break from music for about 8 years while I was raising three children who are now all in their thirties. I have been playing music and teaching full time at the same location in Knoxville - now Open Chord Music - since 2005. In March of 2020 I switched to online lessons and will continue online moving forward.
