Was very good at handling my special needs dog and made plenty of time for my dog to get used to her before starting the grooming process. Would definitely recommend for people with special needs dogs.

I needed a last minute groom for my dog. They were totally booked but tried very hard to work me into the schedule. We spoke several times. I appreciated their professionalism and understanding my problem.

We have two very high strung, head strong Australian Shepherds. Dan has been amazing in allowing them to warm up to a stranger yet expecting then to be controlled in their behavior. He uses positive training methods. He sends an update after each visit which helps me be comfortable about how the dog walking went that day. I highly recommend Dan!

Nikki's understanding of animal behavior is unimaginable, and her ability to teach people how to have a more enjoyable relationship with their dog is far beyond comprehension. My wife and I had Nikki come out to our home and teach us how to work with our German Shepherd puppy, Veda. Nikki's lessons are straight to the point, and the results are evident immediately. She is a huge proponent of not "over commanding" your dog. To hear it from Nikki, she'd tell you that you shouldn't have to constantly tell your dog what to do (or what NOT to do)...your dog should know what is expected and just do it without a command. To alot of people that sounds daunting, if not laughable, as a training method. You can laugh or shrug off that line of thinking if you want, but we're here to tell you that it works! Dog dragging you down the street on your "walk"? Nikki will fix it! Dog jumping at the door to greet visitors? Nikki will fix it! Ever feel like you're not the one in charge? Nikki will fix it! Quit reading the Leerburg site wondering about prong collars. Quit wasting your hard earned money at Petsmart and Petco on their clicker classes where you make the funny noises to distract the dog from what it's focusing on. Call Nikki. Tell her what's going on with your pet. Setup an appointment, and start enjoying your relationship with your pet (and other humans in the house) again. Her abilities with animals and their owners will change the dynamic in your house in a very short period of time. It does cost a little bit more than those other training classes...but the results are far better in our opinion.

Tatiana is wonderful! She truly has a passion for animals and has taken care of and loved on our fur babies many times. She's great with our two giant dogs (70 and 60 lbs) and our cat. My husband and I love that she has so much experience at the vet and we can always count on her professional knowledge of what's going on if we are noticing any certain symptoms our animals are experiencing. I would highly recommend her. She's responsible, understands animal behavior, and most importantly our animals love her!

Michael was the best!!! I would HIGHLY recommend him to pet sit for any dog. I have two German Shepherds and my female is very shy and barks/growls at everyone. Michael came over to meet the dogs before I went out of town. Within minutes he made friends with both dogs and even had my female licking his arm on the couch. I was happily surprised as I had never had anyone keep them before. He sent me updates and pictures everyday, which made being away from them easier. I completely trust him with my pups and will definitely be using him in the future!

I clean houses and windows. I also walk dogs, bathe and clip nails. I'm very happy to help my clients in all their needs. Everyone needs assistance with everyday household chores. My goal is to make it easier for them, so they have more free time to spend with their families. I dedicate my life to helping others.

I clean houses and garages, and I can do whatever you want done. I can also run your errands for you. I can walk your dog too. Let me help you so you have more time to play.

I love animals of all kinds. Keeping them healthy is my top priority. I will even watch them overnight if the need arises.

I am a dog trainer based in Fairview, TN. My passion for all animals has driven me to become a dog trainer. I am dedicated to turning any dog into our best friend.

My passion as a dog trainer is teaching people to properly train their dogs to be a welcome part of the family. Behavioral problems are one of the main reasons dogs are surrendered to shelters. Proper training can save these types of dogs. Everyone likes a well-trained dog. It's the only way to have a dog and truly enjoy them. I became a dog enthusiast because I was given an adult dog that had many behavioral problems. I worked with several trainers to make her a wonderful companion that I could truly enjoy. My show experience includes obedience and agility. My golden retriever Kula has received the following titles from AKC and United Kennel Club (UKC): Companion Dog (CD), Rally Excellent (RE), United Companion Dog(UCD) and Canine Good Citizen (CGC).

I provide experienced bird and pet sitting, dog walking and dogie daycare. I have over 13 years of experience, and can provide this during clients' long days at work or while they are on vacation. At this time, I only have availability in my home for dogs under 25 lbs and all other animals. I have availability for at this time. I only keep a limited number of pets at a time, so that they will get the attention that they need. I provide lots of love and attention, playtime, walks, treats (if the owner allows), and lots of potty breaks. Owners will come home to a very happy pet. Also when pet sitting with birds, they also get lots one-on-one attention and can have playtime outside of cage if the owner would like. I have great rates and very reputable references upon request. I also do not work outside of the home, so I will be here for your pets. Please e-mail me, so that we can set up the perfect plan for you and your pet. Thank you for reading and contact me soon.

I take care of business with a smile on my face and friendly attitude towards my clients and their pets.

I have 30 years of experience in training dogs, from basic household manners to problem solving inappropriate behaviors. I like to work with you and your dog as a team but am willing to work one-on-one with just your dog. I use a positive reward-based method of training. Although I am no longer showing my own dogs, for the past 20 years I have raised, trained and shown dogs in a variety of venues, as well as been an active foster home for Collie Rescue. This has given me a wide range of skills in working with dogs. Household manners include working with you on house training issues, appropriate greeting of guests, waiting at doorways, begging, inappropriate barking, separation anxiety, etc. Basic obedience skills include walking on a loose leash, sit, down, stand, stay and come when called. If you want to work on more advanced skills, I would love to assist you with that as well. Also available are dog walking and pet sitting services.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

    • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
    • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
    • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
    • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
    • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
    • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
