Jason was one of the few guys to actually respond and he did so quickly. Many contacts on Tumbtack just don't respond. His prices were affordable and his teams workmanship was great. I have already given his contact info to my neighbor. Funny guy too! My gutters were old and dumping water on my windows, he quickly repaired the old ones and added a new spout to offset the builders bad gutter design. Like new!

Jose worked with us on getting the outside of the house revamped with hardy board siding and our kitchen completely remodeled. Jose was fantastic to work with, prices were very reasonable, and he was great with bringing samples, etc. after letting him know what colors we wanted to use. They stripped the outside of the house, wrapped, sided, and trimmed in 3 days. The siding and painting crews did a fantastic job. The kitchen was gutted down to stud and remodeled. Fernando was fantastic, beautiful work in the kitchen and completed in 3 weeks. We love the results both inside and out and will work with Jose and his teams in the future for some other projects. Thank you Jose and Fernando, we love the new kitchen and the view of the outside of the house when pulling in the drive-way now. You guys are awesome to work with, look forward to future projects with you!

I have cleaned rental houses and vacations rentals for thirty years. This is the first cleaner I have used that cleaned under rugs and really dusted. I have been looking for eight years for help and I was thrilled with their professionalism. I will use them a lot for my home and my business. They are knowledgeable about products. My house is not easy and they went through it as if they had done it hundreds of times . They are the BEST👍

David has been working with us for the last six weeks. My husband and I bought a house built in 1960 that needed many upgrades and repairs. Needless to say, nothing in this house has been an easy fix. Since the house is old, every day presented a new challenge for which David maintained an open mind and diligently thought of a solution. There is nothing David can't do. I highly recommend his services.

Morgan does amazing work!! He cut and installed a door at my house in the 12 South area, and I was so pleased, I hired him again to install a glass pane in a large commercial door at my vocal studio on Music Row. Very professional, thorough, detailed, and well-priced. Overall incredible experience, and will be using him again.

Matt did great work on our house. He repaired a few items and painted a difficult section of the exterior-much higher off the ground than I would've gone. He was thorough and did a great job.

If you're experiencing any kind of water damage, mold issues, or even suspect that you have anything of the sort--call Advanced Home Solutions! I had a great experience with Bryan and would trust him to fix literally anything in my home if he would do it. He came to inspect a potential roof/gutter leak that was causing ceiling water damage. Went above and beyond to advise me on how to actually fix it myself. Gave me pointers on other problematic areas around my house too that I should keep an eye on. I value his expertise and opinion and will be calling him in the future.

My name is Brenda and I found Chris. I filled out a form on Thumbtack about the work we needed done and he was one of four who responded. I NEVER do things like that but something prompted me to fill the form out and was I happy I did! Chris impressed me from the start with the way he stayed on top of my search. He wasn't pushy, just asked that I let him know if I had found someone to do the job so he could close the request out. That he followed up in that manner said a lot to me. It showed that he cared! When I knew his initial bid was too low (which he made from what I had written on Thumbtack and yes, I said too low!) I asked him to come out and see my house. We needed all the exterior trim painted and have a large house... 43 + windows that are all wood, not metal. I knew he needed to see it so we set up a time for that. He was prompt and within a few days I had a written, very detailed estimate. I had bids from four painters, one who had worked for neighbors, one from a friend of our son's, one from someone recommended to me and Chris'. The bids varied by several thousand...on both sides. Chris' was in the middle and I really liked his work ethic. We went with him. We also had quite a bit of rotted places on some of the trim and columns of our house that needed to be repaired. Before the job started he came to our home with a very detailed contract, but not one that you can't understand (like a lawyer would write). Everything, and I mean everything, was spelled out. He went over it thoroughly before I signed it and he signed it. We did have a change at one point and the next morning he brought the changes in a new contract which we both signed. I appreciated this so much because I knew we both understood the changes. There was some money involved and I understood exactly what that would be. Chris has a work ethic like no one who has ever done work for us before. He treated the work at our home like it was his own. He is as picky and detailed as I am. He was present at our home each morning when the work was started and each afternoon when it ended...and several times each day in between... checking on it. If something was not to his liking, he had the men redo it. By that I mean that to the average person, it would have looked fine, but Chris has high standards and expects the best to be done by his men. His men were very polite and quite. I did not feel like I had to be home while they worked and although it was outside painting that was done, doors and windows had to be left unlocked. I never once worried about that. I even invited the men to use our basement restroom while they were there and gave Chris a key so that if I was not home when they started work, he could unlock the window and doors they were working on that day. When the job was completed, the house looked great. Chris did a detailed check of our property and he felt the painters had not cleaned well enough and put things back right, so he had them right back out here. Let me just say again, he has a work ethic like no one we've ever used before. Although we had him repair rotted wood and paint, we will definitely use him again in the future for what ever project we might want done. Thank you, Chris, for a well done! Brenda D.

Met with Tom at my house and reviewed the items I needed repaired . He seemed nice and knowledgeable . After the meeting he stated that he would get me an estimate in a few days and after several calls and texts he was MIA and did not respond to my request for costs, so I had to move on to another .

Fernando and his associate did a great job in painting all of the walls in my 1200 sq ft house. He finished the work a day earlier than anticipated and exceeded my expectations. His price was fair and the quality of the work is superb. I would hire Fernando again for future painting projects and recommend him to anyone needing their place painted.

We bought an old house that needed a total remodel. I called D.R. Construction for a bid. They came out the next day, he was very knowledgeable about all the construction aspects of our house. David was very courteous and professional. He was the lowest bid we received but his work was top notch. He offered several suggestions to help us save on money but not lose quality. We had a great experience with D.R. Construction and would recommend them for all your construction needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
