FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Private lessons for improving proficiency. Private lessons for struggling high school students. Private lessons for people with a specific goal, such as preparing for an upcoming trip.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for someone who is himself/herself a proficient speaker of another language. Native speaker teachers are often NOT the best ones, especially if they only speak THEIR language well. Look for someone who understands the language learning process. Ideally, look for someone with training in linguistics or second language acquisition. Ask about the person's experience with the culture of the target country. Does the person identify as an insider or an outsider? Finally, look for someone who can explain to you what it means to actually learn a language. If their answer is mostly about grammar, and especially verb conjugations, beware! You want someone with a holistic approach, who understands the big picture.
