- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been teaching since I was 18 and a music major in college. I picked up lessons because a lot of the teachers in our department were booked or they were too expensive for some of the other students in the college choir. I had friends just start asking me if I would teach them. I found that I learned so my by teaching----it really kept me fresh because every student has a different goal or music that influences them. I was finding that there was a lot I didn't know and needed to research to be a good teacher. I committed then, that no matter what I did career-wise, day job or not---I would always keep students for this reason. To be great for my students means that I have to be great for myself as well. Twelve years later, I have had many day jobs and professional music jobs alike and I have always kept students. At this point for me, teaching is a passion and I am very focused on finding the 'right' students that I can really help and who also just inspire me with their abilities.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common students I get are young families 2-3 children ages 4-13. I also get a fair amount of adult students who are professionals and are just looking for an outlet or used to be in choirs and are missing music.
