Really great experience. I was moving from a house to an apartment and had moved a lot of smaller stuff in advance and left all the larger/heavier items for the movers. The guys loaded, transported, and delivered all items in a timely manner: they were very careful with my belongings as they moved them; they wrapped my dressers to prevent damage. For those moving, keep in mind there is a three hour minimum... I only used about an hour and 20 minutes.... so I essentially paid for double what I actually used... but it was totally worth it for me. Thanks A1 👍🏽

The crew that came to move us were super in every way! They were hard working, took excellent care of our belongings and the house we were leaving and the house we were moving to. They were very polite and easy to talk to. We were very impressed with the way they wrapped everything in a blanket and then wrapped again with shrink wrap. Our neighbors were moving the same day as us with a different company. Our crew of four men and two trucks were loaded and gone before my neighbors crew of three men and one truck (with a 30 minute head start) were still packing and loading. I highly recommend WE HAUL NASHVILLE they are the best!

I am very impressed with John Marshall. He does an excellent job mowing and weed eating the areas we discussed needed his attention. I don't know how long it takes him to finish the job. All I know is it is gratifying to come home and the work is done, and done well.

I had a hard time finding a company that would charge a fair price to move a large piece of furniture inside my home. His rate was more reasonable than that of other companies. He made time for me on a holiday weekend and texted me to keep me informed of his arrival time. He was polite and courteous and moved the item without any problems. I will call Daryl again when I need help moving heavy items in my home.

Bellhops made moving my one bedroom house to another house so easy! They were prompt, friendly, and fast! I anticipated it taking them 2-3 hours to move my stuff, but they did it in an hour and 4 minutes. I was amazed. Bellhops helped relieve so much of my moving anxiety and stress. I would definitely recommend them to everyone!

I was so impressed with the work that this team did- we had the pleasure of working with David, David, Gabriel and Chris; and then Beth was the spotter who kept things moving. These guys worked so hard and went above and beyond to make sure all of our belongings were safely wrapped and transported. They even went BACK to our old house (a 70+ mile round trip) to pick up the rest of belongings that didn't fit the first time. They worked tirelessly, making many many trips up a steep set of stairs. I was so grateful for the work that they did, never complaining and making sure we were happy with the process. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will absolutely use them again... though right now, I've sworn to never ever move again.

These guys were fantastic. They were highly professional in keeping the piano they were moving and my house in perfect shape. Additionally, they went the extra mile to move an obscenely difficult piece into my house with an amazing positive attitude all along the way. Thanks again, gents!

I highly recommend Lend-A-Truck for any in town moving needs. Jim was incredibly nice, pleasant to be around and work with, punctual, hard-working, and understands not only how to properly handle and pack furniture and household goods, but transport them safely and securely as well. I had no doubt utilizing Lend-A-Truck, that my household items and furniture were in good hands, going to show up without any concern for their being damage, and that I was supporting a local business with a solid work ethic. Jim is prior Navy, so as a veteran myself, I was happy to hire Lend-A-Truck. It’s easy to tell from my first conversation with Jim, that this is a company I could trust, especially since moving is a relatively stressful experience for most. Jim helped make this move of mind, seamless. I will most certainly call Lend-A-Truck in the future for any potential moves, and I will gladly recommend them to my family, friends, and social network. 5 Stars, 10/10, best moving experience I’ve had.

I contacted them on very short notice. They arrived on time and moved a 2000 square foot home for me. They were very friendly and overall it was an enjoyable experience. Well as enjoyable as moving can be. They worked 10 hours but the day was so long because we were not packed or anything, we ended up closing on our house a week early so it was a last minute scheduling. The only thing I would suggest that i have experienced with other moving companies, and i have moved a LOT and used moving companies from 2 men and a truck to local movers, would be to allow clothing to stay in the drawers and just wrap it, and also to put beds and such back together. We have a TON of stuff and miraculously the only thing damaged was my coffee table. I would use them again. Just be prepared to put your furniture back together yourself and keep up with the nuts and bolts. Their rates were very reasonable as well.

I can not say enough good about Strong Men Moving. I contacted them last minute and they came the next day to help. They did a great job of communicating and letting me know exactly when they would be there, they were careful with my items yet very fast and had a game plan of how they were going to load everything. From now on, these are the only movers I am going to use and will recommend them to friends and family. The quality and the value can not be beat!

We used merapex Moving on our last move and highly recommended them to a friend who was leaving the area in a week for a new job. Wife worked 12 hour days and husband was disabled so not much help getting packed. Alex and his great team took care of them! They did all the packing, moving and setting up in their new home! I am beyond impressed with the courteous professional full-service treatment Amerapex Moving offers to their customers! Best movers!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
