My goal is to give you all the tools necessary to find your artistic identity and pursue your musical ambitions. Through my musical education, I've come to understand certain formulas that eliminate the need for time consuming and tedious memorization of theory. These tools make complex theory and harmony accessible even to small children. Once you have these concepts in your arsenal, you will be free to unleash your creative potential. I will then focus on helping you tap into your creative side so that you can make the most inspired music. You will learn how to set yourself apart by channeling your music from your individuality. If your goal is to be a classical musician, I'll also teach you the most effective methods for sight-reading and memorization. These techniques will help you avoid frustration; the biggest nemesis of any musician. It is definitely possible to enjoy the process if you use the right methods. I teach all ages. I've taught students ranging from a two and a half year old novice to a seventy-eight year old retired jazz enthusiast. It's never too early, nor too late. My students are an important part of my life, and I always enjoy connecting with them through our shared love of music.

  • Lessons for Children

I love to work with children. I have volunteered in the past at children's plays, elementary schools, and special education programs. Last summer, I began teaching piano lessons to a family friend's 8-year-old daughter and realized that I enjoyed the lessons almost as much as her and as a result she learned a huge amount in a very short amount of time. I'm willing to teach about whatever I know. I can teach piano, music theory, songwriting, and singing. I can also tutor for schoolwork, whether that be in reading, writing, math, or history. I have also taught children's fitness classes before, and would like to teach swimming, dance, or gymnastics if there are available facilities. I'm a college student looking to teach children ages 12 and under.

  • Zach Evans

    (2 reviews)

I am truly passionate about piano. And I know saying you're "passionate" about something has become so cliche that it seems to mean nothing anymore. So if you have any doubts, scroll down to the bottom, and you can look up my website, YouTube (just type in "Zach Evans") channel, and bestselling books. But first, here's what I can teach you: 1. I'll Help You Master Solid Piano Technique - Allows for Speed and Tone -Technique is one of my specialties, there's a step-by-step proven system (a series of drills and concepts) to build solid technique and ramp it up until you're burnin up the ivories with crazy fast arpeggio runs. 2. I'll Help You Play By Ear - Learn Your Favorite Song Without Sheet Music -Playing by ear is by far the most underrated aspect of piano. Most teachers nowadays only teach sheet music (which is great if you only want to play Beethoven and Bach) but playing by ear is much more applicable if you want to play popular/jazz/country music. It's also way faster to learn a song by ear than to learn with sheet music. 3. I'll Teach You To Play Your Favorite Songs - So you'll ENJOY Piano -In todays market, only about 1% of gigs are classical gigs, and it's decreasing more and more. I teach classical technique because it gets results, but I teach popular songs much more often. And I can play by ear so I'll be able to write out ANY popular song you'd like to learn (I've covered over 100 on my Youtube channel, so its easy to do now), and make it the exact difficulty you'll want to learn it at. 4. I'll Teach You The Flashy Stuff - That Shocks Audiences -I love the flashy stuff, and I'll teach you the fastest way to learn it (after you learn some of the fundamentals of course). Some of the cool runs are actually a lot easier than they look, you just have to learn the right technique. 5. I'll Teach You How To Use Motivation Loops - Never Feel "Stuck" -The number one reason people quit or fail piano is because they lose motivation and give up. There's a whole mental side to learning that teachers often overlook because they're too focused on the nuts and bolts of playing. Things like goal setting and motivation loops are often overlooked, but just as important. I consider motivation to be one of my strengths. 6. I'll Teach You To Play With Emotion - Move People to Tears With Your Playing -Playing with emotion is a skill. It's a combination of dynamic change, tempo fluctuations, and tone production. Although some of it is "just something that comes from inside you," without learning these three techniques you won't be able to give the piano that soft, sensitive tone. 7. I'll Teach You To Learn Piano FAST - Using "Accelerated Learning Techniques" -Here's the equation for speed of learning. Practice Time X Practice Efficiency = Amount of Progress. Obviously practice time is going to be limited by your schedule. But I can teach you practice efficiency. Tools, tricks, and strategies that will help you learn more music in less time (it's the equivalent of using "acronyms" or "flashcards" when you study, but for piano). 8. And The Most Important Thing... You'll Have Fun -At the end of the day, that's what's important. What do YOU want to be able to do? Want to play keyboard in a band? I'll teach you that. Want to play for weddings? I'll teach you that. Want to only play Justin Bieber covers? Why not, I'll teach you that :P So before you have your first lesson, we'll sit down and talk about your goals, how much practice time you have, and how much energy you want to commit to piano, and we'll develop a plan around your life. That way you won't feel overwhelmed. And you'll get exactly what you want out of lessons. Why should you choose me as a teacher? 1. Can They Play? You'd be surprised, but there are a lot of piano teachers out there who are hardly better than their students. I knew a guitar player who "picked up" keyboard on the side, and started teaching lessons to make a couple extra bucks. Trust me, you do not want that guy as your teacher. If you're curious about me, I encourage you to go to my YouTube channel and decide for yourself (I'll have it listed below under "Credentials") 2. Do They Have The Same Goals You Do? A lot of teachers are stuck in the past. They only have one way of teaching: Classical. They insist you have to learn the classics before you can learn to play anything else. That's 100% false. If you're looking to play pop/jazz/keyboard in a band, you have no need for some of the complex theory classical music gets into. You'll be wasting time learning stuff you'll never use while you could have been learning some cool Jazz licks. Personally, I specialize in the pop/jazz/band stuff. I can teach classical too, I took that all throughout college, but I much more enjoy teaching the popular stuff. And to be honest, the popular stuff is what you want to learn if you ever plan on getting gigs or playing live. 3. Do They Have a Passion For Teaching? A lot of pianists love to play, but just teach for the money. You don't want that teacher. I can assure you, I love teaching just as much as I love playing. My teachers over the years have given me the gift of music, and I love giving that gift to others. I hope it is evident by the fact that I've written books about it and have a blog devoted to teaching. But to be honest the only true way to judge that is to give me a call. Credentials and PROOF that I can teach you: Ok, I've been talking a lot of game. How do you know I can back it up? 1. I do have a Music Degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, with piano as my primary instrument. Honestly, I don't think that means anything. It's just a piece of paper and doesn't show anything about work ethic or passion. 2. I've covered over 100 songs by ear on YouTube and have 800,000 views. Thumbtack doesn't allow me to post links, but search "Zach Evans Piano" you can check it out. 3. I've devoted an entire website to teaching, type in "Best Piano Tips Zach Evans" on google to check it out. I hope it shows my passion for teaching. 4. I've devoted an entire Twitter Page and Instagram (that I update daily) to piano, feel free to add me, @zachevansmusic. 5. I've written two books, "Supercharge Your Piano Practice" and "Lightning Fast Piano Scales," the scales one is an Amazon Bestseller. I won't teach you if: Look, I want to make sure we're a good fit. Obviously, you have to decide if I'm a good fit for you, but I also have to make sure you're a good fit for me or it won't work out well for either of us. All I'm looking for from my students is commitment, and a willingness to learn and try different things. If you have trouble staying motivated sometimes, I can help with that, but if you're not willing to really commit and give piano a fair shot, I can't do anything for you. Also, if you're not willing to follow the plan, I can't help you. I can promise you I know what works and what doesn't, as long as you have the discipline to follow the plan you'll make tons of progress. Look, if you're interested in learning, I'd love to teach you. I know I can help you and give you results. Give me a call (weekends or after 6PM) or email me and we can talk about your goals and what you want to accomplish. -Zach Evans P.S. If you already play, try this video tutorial to learn crazy fast arpeggios. It's a lot easier than you think to learn but it blows people's minds every time. Just type in "Zach Evans Crazy Fast Arpeggios" on YouTube.

I create happy, healthy, musicians who are solid in music fundamentals, allowing them to take their music into any direction they would like to go throughout their lives - professional to hobbyist - classical, pop, country, singer-songwriter, musical theatre, jazz, bands. One of the greatest things we accomplish together is establishing 'the practice' of realistic goal setting, follow through, and then the discipline of instrument practicing 4 or more days per week (parent involvement and scheduling assessment for minor students is non-negotiable for optimal results). This is a process comes along with a lot of conversations over time, a lot of grace and a lot of finding out about what the student wants most for their life (even with the 5 year olds!) - sometimes that is preparing to be a professional musician, other times it is realizing music fully as an outlet. I teach students how to find their answers and to prioritize what is most important in their lives, and to love music. This foundation in reality also serves as a foundation for confidence and combats performance anxiety head on at its base level. Aside from developing the disciplines mentioned above- my focus with each student musically is to teach them to be rock solid in music theory (shape notes, chord charts and Nashville numbers). From this solid grounding, then we work across usually more than one instrument (voice, piano, beginning guitar, beginning violin, songwriting). I do not accept students who are not willing to learn music theory (even vocalists). I have taught music for 12 years, have a degree in music, am currently working on master's at Belmont (recently move to TN, from Santa Barbara). I currently have 13 students in the Nashville area, a few skype students in California. Lessons are weekly. Skype lessons also available for those outside of Nashville on a case by case basis. Please contact me to discuss your needs musically, and we can see if I am the right person to help you get those needs met.

Marcin Bela

(16 reviews)

What do you love about your job?

Besides being a professional performing and creative musician, I also have a strong calling (and powerful skills) to nurture and develop talent. What actually gives me the most joy is the moment when I'm no longer needed, when a young musician spreads his or her own wings (which I helped them strengthen and train) and flies off towards their own artistic dreams.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

After 6 years of working as a university professor, I realized that the breadth and scope of my experience as a musician didn't fit into the classroom format. As the head of my own school, I get to investigate and discover what musical style a new student's soul sings in and lead them precisely in that direction, not limited by stiff and outdated academic curricula.

He has an obvious passion for music and a knack for explaining concepts in a way that is clear and precise, without being overly technical or intimidating. I would recommend him to anyone looking to develop their overall understanding of music, and definitely to anyone who hopes to learn to improvise and arrange their own pieces!

I try and make lesson fun and informative. I'd taken piano/guitar lessons all throughout my childhood and some of them were fun and engaging while others felt like a chore. I make it a point to keep the lessons interesting, and introduce songs that compliment the music theory that we're learning at that particular time. In addition, I've earned Best of Thumbtack Music Lessons for 2015 & 2016! I love seeing that lightbulb go off in peoples heads, when it finally clicks and they understand the concept that I'm teaching them. It's also great to see the progression over time of students, advancing in their knowledge of the instrument.

Dr. Marcin Bela (B. M. New England Conservatory, D. M. A. University of Michigan) has helped hundreds of musicians find their artistic voice. He teaches professionals and hobbyists of all ages and stylistic directions, from Classical and Jazz to Hip-Hop, Metal and Bollywood. Studio recordings produced by Marcin Bela (featuring such artists as Mikky Ekko) have been licensed by television shows on HBO, VH1 and MTV. Everyone who seeks music education has a dream of creating a certain sound. It could be a million things - maybe playing the Moonlight Sonata, maybe singing and playing an Elton John song, often creating an original composition. Seeing the smile on a student's face when that dream becomes reality is my absolute favorite part of the job.

Having been taught very traditionally at the university level and also spending a number of years being self-taught, I have the ability to straddle the lines of traditional music lessons and contemporary styles. I can realize when a students needs or wants a less traditional approach like just learning how to use chords to accompany their voices or see that they need a more classical approach rooted in proven technique and tradition. I love seeing people "get it", discover that they're making valuable music. This can occur at any age and any skill level.
