I've been taking piano lessons since 5th grade and I've had my share of musical experiences. I started taking lessons from Ernest when I was in high school. From the first lesson on, I knew I was going to learn something new every time I walked through the door. I also knew that he had the knowledge to understand me as a person and a musician. One thing that I think is unique about Ernest is that he puts the student first. There is no set curriculum. There is no childish book with goofy pictures. He always asks me what I want to learn every time, forcing me to be responsible for my own learning. I am able to focus on things that I want to learn. Additionally, his magic music method of teaching has been such a different experience than anything I've ever been tought before. By using games, for example, sitting down to play piano or guitar is a lot more productive and fun for me. Also, "practicing"? Forget about it. Ernest teaches you to PLAY music and with his teaching methods, practicing doesn't feel like a terrible task that you don't want to do. I've learned so much with Ernest his teaching methods, and he has become a good friend of mine. Thanks Ernest!

I've been taking lessons with Ernest since I was in the eighth grade and now I'm about to start college. At first I would take thirty minute lessons once a week, but over the years it has varied, though every lesson I have always walked out feeling like I accomplished something or at the very least that I'd been enlightened about a brand new aspect of music. I've done everything from piano to guitar to theory to songwriting with Ernest. Over time he has gone from being my music teacher to a mentor that I really admire and look up to. His teaching method is unique and the best thing about working with Ernest is that it doesn't feel like work -- he really wants his students to enjoy what they're doing and he does really well to give each student the individual learning style that he or she needs. Ernest is never stressful to be around, lessons are always something to look forward to instead of something that might cause some anxiety (like a previous experience I had). Ernest is an amazing teacher and working with him will always be something I look forward to.

Ernest was my piano teacher at World Music Nashville for, I believe, two years or more. Ernest was teaching me to play classical pieces because it was the type of music I was interested in learning, and he went above and beyond jn teaching me about knowing the composers, reading the music, and finding neat ways to help me learn. One time Ernest had me play the drums just so I could learn the beat right; and another time he had me play a makeshift golf game to learn when to hit the key at the right time. I was really impressed by his methods and patience. The best quality I would say about Ernest's work is that he teaches you life lessons that go along with your journey in music and it is such a refreshing thought that he aims to teach his students to be musicians who would be better then him one day. I don't think I had any serious issues with the way he taught or his schedule, because if I ever missed a day it was easy to reschedule. wuth that said, I would absolutely recomend Ernest as a music teacher.

As professional musicians, my husband and I promised we'd never push music on our kids, and for awhile it seemed that none of them enjoyed music enough to play without being pushed hard. Then we met Ernest. After our son's first session with Ernest, he said "Ernest makes you realize how much you WANT to learn!" Within weeks our kids were on their instruments every day because they wanted to be, playing songs they loved and composing their own music, playing with and for each other, and for friends and family for the pure pleasure of sharing music. Ernest's instruction extends well beyond the boundaries of music, however, into the challenges of creating a meaningful life and being brave enough to master the necessary tools. From the fundamentals of pattern recognition to the zen of "distraction training," Ernest's students gain the visceral experience of practicing both music and life with a commitment to excellence and an expectation of joy.

Taking lessons with Ernest is a completely unique experience. I've been taking lessons with him since I was 13, and I'm almost 18 now. I've worked on guitar, bass, piano, theory, and songwriting with him. I've taken lessons with multiple other teachers over different teachers over that period of time, and I can honestly say that lessons with Ernest are unlike any other. One of the greatest things that he does is he allows you to choose your own path. You can decide if you want to work through a difficult piece of music, or learn a new method, or you can come in and just chill and jam for the day. He always asks for you to tell him what you want to do. Ernest is really unique in the fact that he understands the emotional side of music. He pushes you, but he doesn't pressure you. If you're considering taking lessons with Ernest I highly recommend it! He's such a positive influence to have on your learning, and I couldn't be happier with my experience, or my growth as a musician!
