I had an amazing experience with Gwen & her voice lessons. First of all, she is so personable and easy to talk to. If you have any nerves or reservations, she will ensure that you’re comfortable and professionally help you with things that need a little tweaking. Secondly, Gwen is clearly knowledgeable of her skill set. The lesson was very fluid and consistent. It doesn’t matter what you need to work on, she can alter the lesson to fit your needs, easily. Third, I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who is an experienced vocalist or a brand new student (such as myself). The prices are fair, the lesson is very beneficial, and you will be on the right track to accomplish your vocal goals! Seriously, I learned a lot on day one that has already improved my singing ability. I am already planning to make her my routine vocal coach! Gwen is the real deal!

I had seen the name Gwen Holt on a regular basis while checking out the daily list serve in the widely-read neighborhood list serve in east Nashville. Consistent, grass-roots, regionally focused, advertising in a growing target market clearly indicated that Gwen was approachable and professional. As a Berklee graduate with years in the field, her training was top notch. When I met Gwen at a local party it was as if I was clinkin' drinks with a long-time, warm and friendly gal pal. Someone who I had been interested in meeting was now a new friend. When it was time to record a new Eight O'Five Jive CD, I knew exactly who I'd feel most comfortable working with as a vocal coach. Bonus that Gwen also contributed killer sax licks at the live-release party, contributing arrangements on several numbers. But on all recorded tracks, she incrementally listened-in and guided me through my trouble spots so I felt more at home behind the recording mic. Her focus is on comfortably extracting the best range in the right spots, while helping to create the color and intent of the expression in a phrase or single end-note. She grounds you while instilling achievable building blocks that lend ease and confidence to the artist and the project as a whole. And what fun. Gwen is a joy to work with. Proof of that pudding are the vast number of talented rising stars that flock towards her hip and easy way of putting people together to do great things. And no star fades in Gwen's world. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I listen to the student sing a verse and chorus of an easy song they're fairly comfortable with and make notes. I create a list of voice exercises based on what will benefit them the most. We cover posture and breathing, do some exercises, and work through songs section by section.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston. 30 years teaching and performing experience. Studied with great teachers such as Renee Grant Williams (worked with Linda Rondstadt, Carrie Underwood, Rod Stewart, Dixie Chix, etc.), Brett Manning Studio, Judith Rabinovitch (Sarah McLachlan's teacher), Corlynn Hanney (ex backup singer for Leonard Cohen), Rachel Rains (Seth Riggs technique), etc. Have my jazz proficiencies in piano, play guitar, bass, sax and harmonica, and compose in all styles as well as teach commercial songwriting.
