Juan was hired to assemble some bookcases for the office. He put them together and set them up against the wall. The project took a little over hour. Everything looked neat and finished.

They replaced one side of my fence along with the gate. They did an excellent job, arrived on time, cleaned up after they left. Very friendly and easy to work with.

I mistakenly went with another contractor to build my fence. It was a mess, but Antonio came to the rescue. He and his crew corrected the spacing of the planks, straightened out areas where corners were cut, repaired gates, and returned to bring some of his crew's repair work up to his high standards. He was easy to reach and very responsive. I've already hired him to do some additional work in the yard (laying sod, etc). He's my go-to guy for landscaping projects from here on out--highly recommended.

Great work and the fence exceeded our expectations. He took great care in construction, clean-up and even made suggestion of a larger gate opening to help in getting larger things in/out of the yard.

We had Delcid's Painting and More complete 3 projects for us. They replaced a fence, replaced an area of ceiling that flooded in a spare bedroom, and repaired a leak in the roof. They were Wonderful! On time, no added surprise expenses, cleaned up all areas, and great communication. I felt very comfortable having them in my home when I was at work. We have already had him look at 4 new projects. Issac is the contractor we will call first!!

Kendall did great work on a challenging job! We hired him to remove and replace ~15' of fence. We had 2 trees cut down that went through the fence at 2 different locations. The plan was for Kendall to remove the fence immediately prior to the stumps being ground and then Kendall would return to build the new fence. The person who ground the stumps didn't grind them low enough for the fence to be replaced properly. Kendall improvised and got a portion of the fence done and was to return after the second stump was ground down more. The person who did the stump grinding never returned and wouldn't return our calls. Kendall had previously offered to do the stump grinding, so we hired him to finish off that job. Kendall did a much better job than the "professional" who had his own grinder. Throughout the whole experience, Kendall was very professional, very polite, returned calls promptly, and he showed up when he said he would. He willingly stepped in to do a different job when the other person abandoned us. Larger fence companies had a minimum of $1000 worth of work, so that is what brought me to Thumbtack. I would highly recommend Kendall and will use him again when we need more fence work.

Tell projects are an all around great company with excellent customer service. They came to fix my fence and in the end repaired not only my fence but an entire wall of sheetrock. It looked so new that I asked them to redo the entire room with new sheetrock. They worked great with my budget on the amazing quality that I received. I will definitely be calling them again especially with their one year guarantee!!!!

A difficult and very dead tree was removed safely at a good price. They left the area clean, started and finished on time and were very professional. I appreciate it. The tree was close to my house and fence and they didn't damage anything.

David and crew did a nice job with our stamped concrete and fence job. Pricing was aligned with other bids and quality of work met expectations. David and crew are very friendly. He would have received 5 stars only if they didn't dump left over cement on a vacant lot across the street. I notified David immediately and he stated he would pick up next day, but and I'm still waiting. Not cool to dump in the Heights.

Daniel did an excellent job of building our shaker style kitchen cabinets and arches to match the existing in our older home. He was thorough and patient as we went over design ideas that I had collected from Pintrest. He used the ideas and incorporated them into our space. He met with us several times to go over the details and timeline. He went above and beyond to help me coordinate with the other trades for our remodel. He also put me in contact with a painter and sheetrock repair to help with the job. I highly recommend Daniel and would definitely use him again for any of our carpentry needs!

Awesome company, very pleased! We hired Realta for a large home remodeling project; handicap-accessible room. Osman and his team designed and constructed a new room in our house equipped with a roll-in shower, grab bars in the shower and by the toilet, shower bench and accessible sink. They also placed hand rails along the room that were fitted for my mother-in-law, built a sizable ramp, the maneuverability they created for her is superb. One thing that Osman did that impressed our family was that he took the time to read about ADA building codes to make sure my MIL would be comfortable and that the room was built around her needs. We are grateful we found Realta and that Osman was up for the challenge of building something different!

Larry and his crew at Miracle Fence, made my old weathered fence and deck look brand new. I had a new fence on the right side of my yard (see photo) and to the left was existing when I moved into the house 10 years ago. He treated the old and new fence and now it all looks new and uniform. I thought I would have to replace the deck. It was in such bad shape. It looks almost new, now. I will be able to get many more years out of the deck and fencing. You can tell that Larry is meticulous about his craft. The photo shows the work in progress. The right is the new fence, the 10+ year old fence starts at the corner and off to the left (the part without rot board at the bottom). You can see the before and after dramatic difference on the old fence.

Sergio and his team did fantastic work and were professional and friendly. We moved an existing fence about four feet out and added on to extend our yard. They constructed the additional sections on site to make sure it matched the old. It matches perfectly and looks great.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
