FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach students from all ages with the youngest even start with age 3. Each lesson include techniques, sight-reading and theory. Student will also have chance to learn to improvise and accompany other musicians. The goal for the lessons are for students to be independent music maker and be able to express themselves through music. Each student is required to attend recital every semester. Festivals, piano contest and theory tests are optional but strongly encouraged.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1. Find out if they teach notes reading or fingering reading. Some teachers write down a lot of fingering in the students' music. Students turn out relying on the teacher to write down the fingering for them all the time rather than reading the notes. My goal is to teach students to be great sight reader who can be their own teacher. 2. Find out if the teacher teach theory. Theory is the foundation for composition, arrangement, improvisation as well as musicianship. It is imperative for my students to take theory test every year and do their theory every week. 3. Find out if the teacher can provide different performance opportunities. Recitals, festivals, and contests are important in helping students to set their goals when learning piece. I am a member of Arlington Music teacher association, my students perform, participate in festivals, recitals, and competition in University of Texas at Arlington very frequently. They also accumulate participation points to earn trophies at the end of the year.
