Sierra is an absolute pro to work with! She was incredibly responsive and offered her expertise in helping us plan and capture a surprise proposal at a graduation party. She made everyone at the party at ease in front of the camera. She captured the most beautiful photos of the proposal and the happy couple, as well as photos of all the guests. She provided us with a few photos right after the proposal so the couple could announce the news, and the remainder of the photos she delivered quickly thereafter! Shanaz is dishonest and doesn’t respect her clients. She used us for a project around Halloween 2022 where she invited us to take photos for her own promotional usage on the promise that she would deliver us 5 custom edited photos within a couple days turnaround. Well, it’s been over a month now and she hasn’t delivered on this promise. On top of that she just ghosted us - after we got prepared and drove out for her, gave her our time, and actually paid her prior to this for engagement photos. Would NOT recommend going with her.

I choose PurpleOwl Photography for my engagement shoot based on the great price and fantastic ingenuity in regards to a shooting location. Charquese Jackson charged $75 for a one hour mini-shoot with 30 images and after describing our style as laid back, non-traditional, and nerdy, she geniusly suggested the Austin Public Library as a locale. The shoot was September 10th and I ended up paying cash because she didn't accept cards and wasn't prepared to take Square Cash or PayPal in a timely manner. She quoted a week to receive the final images. On September 19th, 2-4 days later than expected, I received 31 images: 30 low resolution images of us and one from another couple's wedding. I also received an email on the same day saying, "PLEASE delete that last email! My computer sent the right photos, but not the right format.. and a few others on accident! I will resubmit the photos to you!" The file sizes and quality were lowered either to send or by sending via email. Fortunately, she was going to hook us up with the original high resolution images. As of October 10th, a month after the shoot, all I have to show for my money is some photos with quality comparable to old analog media, like VHS or Betamax.

Wow – what an amazing, fun, and empowering experience! Last year (2015) was an extremely difficult year for me personally. After making some changes in my life over the past several months, I’m in a good place and happy with where I am and who I am. So I wanted to find a way to mark my passage through those trials and commemorate the renewed man that I am continuing to become. Sure, I thought about a tattoo with symbolisms and metaphors; however, that kind of memento felt like a cop out to me. As I previously mentioned, I wanted to document who I was at this point in my life. The only thing that came to mind was having a few photos taken. After posting my desired project on Thumbtack™, I quickly received a response from Paul. Little did I know that hiring Paul would turn out to be multiple levels beyond my expectations! After exchanging some messages and a discussion over the phone, we set a date for my personal and custom photo shoot at his studio. Paul suggested that I bring a few different clothing “looks” and a couple of “props” that help convey my personality. For me, the “looks” centered on jeans, t-shirts, and a button-down shirt; and the “props” were a sweater, a hat, a basketball, and the WSJ. The day come around and I arrived at Paul’s studio. (BTW, Paul’s home studio is a dedicated, separate space with high-quality professional equipment.) I will admit: my heart rate was a bit elevated. As I told Paul, I wasn’t too worried about how the photos themselves would turn out. I was more uncomfortable about what I was supposed to do during the shoot: where to place my hands, what to look at, and how to “pose”. Paul quickly put me at ease saying that it was his job to make me look my best; he would guide me through what to do. Paul said my job was to relax, behave naturally, and have some fun. So with just Paul and me in his studio, we turned on some music and began taking photos. Paul is a casual, personable guy with a great sense of humor that quickly created an environment that was easy-going and down-right fun. My personality and Paul’s are similar so it felt more like two friends hanging out than a professional photo session. Paul gave me easy-to- follow instructions as to what to do. While carrying on a conversation the whole time, Paul discovered I have a bit of a devilish streak to my humor. He grabbed onto that characteristic and encourage me to express that side of my personality to capture “the real” me. Time never felt like a factor during the photo shoot. We had agreed upon the duration of the session prior to the shoot, but I never felt like Paul watched the clock and was rushing through the time. Even with changing clothes a few of times and Paul taking photos of me in all states of dress and undress, there was plenty of time to accomplish what both Paul and I wanted from the photo shoot. Once the session was finished, Paul confirmed my e-mail address. Within 24 hours, Paul electronically sent me all the photos (except for the ones he had already culled through to get rid of the worst ones.) Although Paul showed me some of the pics in his camera’s viewfinder during the shoot, I was more than amazed when I began to flip through the digital photos. The photos were really good! Paul even had me looking good in the photos!! As he promised, he captured the very best of me. Bottom line: Paul is an incredible photographer that I would recommend to anyone. You get more than your money’s worth; you meet a good guy; and you have something tangible that you can be proud of. Get in touch with Paul….you will not regret it!!

I took a good long time to even start writing this review because I needed to find the words that could do justice to the artist and the person that is Casey. And I’m almost positive I am still going to come up short. But here goes.. You know how there are some people who are exceptionally professional and yet so relatable that they almost feel like a friend? Someone you can trust with your most prized possessions and your most important days? That is what Casey was to me on my wedding day and the months leading up to it. From the first moment where I reached out to her, she was utterly understanding and so easy to talk to. I had to move my wedding date a couple months and she was willing to move the contract up without any fuss or extra charges. We met right before the wedding and she made sure to take all the information needed and asked me the exact right questions to understand what kind of pictures I was hoping for. On the big day, I was an anxious mess because I was running an hour late to my own wedding. And I had only booked the photography session for 2 hours so I knew that it was gonna be a disaster. But Casey managed everything so well (including me) that time wasn’t even an issue. All this was about the person she is. Now let’s get to the artist she is and how she translated that talent into our wedding photographs. I have never seen a photographer so inherently talented that they can make my always moving mouth and weirdly expressive face look beautiful and ethereal. But she did it! She clicked so many pictures and THEY. WERE. ALL. AMAZING! I swear I had 201 pictures marked as favorites when I went to find my absolute top ones. she captured the heart of our wedding and I will forever be grateful to her for that. All the pictures have so much heart and soul in them. They tell a story of our wedding day so beautifully and so perfectly. And she gave us so many pictures. WAY more than any other photographer has ever given. I will most definitely ask Casey to be my photographer again. Even if I have to marry again for that to happen ( don’t worry, I’ll re-marry the same guy :p ). Reach out to her for your big day. Whatever it is. whenever it is.
