Introduction: My name is Sean Behrens. I started the Behrens Guitar Studio in Austin, TX in 2003. I have been playing and teaching guitar for 30 years. In 2000 I received my Masters Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Denver under the tutelage of Ricardo Iznaola. During my time studying with Maestro Iznaola I unlearned volumes of bad learning ideas and in turn learn how to learn. My strength as a teacher comes from my ability to recognize why students struggle and my ability to meet the student where they are developmentally it n order to get the best result. I have an inherent need to share what I know with people. I am a very process driven individual. My greatest strength though is how well I work with young children. In addition to classical guitar, I also teach rock guitar and electric bass.

Sean has been teaching my 6-year-old son classical guitar for about 3 years now. Progress was slow for the first year, but my son’s pace of learning accelerated dramatically after that. Children really learn quickly with the right teaching. He now plays songs capably from Suzuki book 4 and RCA book 3 and is considered an intermediate-level player. He can also ready music well. At this rate, I expect him to be an advanced player before he is even out of elementary school. The fact that he has progressed so well is a testament to Sean’s patience, experience, and approach. I also want to add that my son genuinely enjoys playing. I fully expect playing guitar to become a lifelong source of pleasure for him. That’s a beautiful gift.

I have been taking virtual classical guitar lessons with Sean for about 6 months now.
Even though I started learning classical guitar on my own before taking lessons, Sean has helped me develop the proper technique and structure needed to go to the next level.
Sean's experience with the Suzuki teaching method is evident in each lesson. He has a unique gift for explaining the complex musical dynamics of classical guitar. I would recommend Sean as a teacher for any child or adult looking to level up their classical guitar skills.
