I moved from a small 1 bedroom apartment to a 2 story house (4 bedroom). The 2 men (James and Angel) that showed had a very easy job of just loading up a few boxes and major furniture pieces. I had already packed and moved most of the items to the house, but left major furniture. They were very friendly, professional, and quick to get the job done. Shane, the woman who quoted the job, was very nice and stated they would show up between 8-10. I received a phone call at 8 from James letting me know they were on the way and they got there at 8:30. I liked getting the heads up call, so we could load up our cars with a few last minute items the guys werent able to take. They fully loaded at the apartment by 10 and unloaded before noon at the house. I would definitely recommend Texas Elite for your local moving needs, and I will use them again in the future.

E&L Services was hands down the best moving experience I have ever had in all aspects. They were punctual, responsive to messages, accommodated my availability needs and pricing was affordable! During the actual moving they treated all my belongings as if it was there own and even organized my items when unloading into the garage, so it was super easy for me to find everything! I didn’t even ask them to do that, what a pleasant surprise! They also were able to assist me in moving any heavy objects I needed and were extremely careful as to not damage my walls. But the best part is they were so quick! Highly recommend , I will never go with anyone else!

Drew came to our home and installed a 65" flat screen and connections. He also had to move the existing plasma upstairs and mount it in a new location. I had several "extra" things I needed and he did them too, such as mounting two very large mirrors on the wall. He was outstanding, professional, and highly recommended.

This was the best moving experience service I have ever had. I had a terrible experience with a bigger moving company, I won't mention their name, Moo, so I was hesitant to work with any other moving companies. However, I was blessed to have found Mario and Sara. They are hardworking, professional, genuine, and have incredible prices. You don't need to look at the huge commercial movers. If you want it done well Ashford Home Services is the one to hire. They also do packing, unpacking, etc. I am also hiring them to haul some things away. I absolutely recommend this company to everyone!

Mitch was very helpful in helping us load our U-Haul truck and move it to our apartment. He also helped my husband take a washer/dryer set to our daughter in another location. He did a great job and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing some moving help.

I moved to Austin in short notice and did not schedule any unloading/unpacking services with any moving company in Austin. No company could help immediately except Todd. He charged a reasonable rate and managed to move my entire one bedroom apartment's worth of furniture and belongings in just over an an hour by himself. I had a large sectional couch, large coffee table, queen sized bed and bed frame, and 8 medium sized boxes. He's quick, skilled, and friendly. I recommend using Todd if you are moving one or two bedrooms worth of materials.

We hired Brandon to move two fans, install three new fans, replace two light fixtures, remove a light fixture and install 7 recessed can lights. He was very responsive from the beginning thru completion. All of the work was performed professionally and we’re happy with the end results. He even worked through some issues that cropped up during the project. Will definitely use again.

I just want to make sure everyone out there knows that this company is the best company I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I am almost 60 and I have moved about 30 times in my life. In all those moves, I was never as pleased and completely satisfied with a moving company as I am with Right Choice Moving. Caleb and his team treated my moving items as if they owned them. They took great care in wrapping and protecting, and moving an extremely heavy item up 40 stairs with a very sharp turn between floors. Not only did they move quickly and carefully, they stayed to make sure I was satisfied and did not rush me at all. They set up everything and made sure all was working properly too! They are clean, professional, punctual, polite and easy to communicate with on what you want, and they find the way to perfectly accomplish your moving wishes. Above All, Their Prices are very affordable and don't be fooled just because they will have better prices than anyone else out there --- their expert performance cannot be beat and is worth much, much more than they charge. I highly recommend them and expect they will expand quickly as they will be swamped by just my family and friends alone! Better book now while you can! Great job Caleb!!! Awesome Service!!!

First let me give you a little background on my moving experiences so that you can understand where I'm coming from when I say "AWESOME SERVICE!!". I come from the military and have always been use to having all my moves scheduled for me-from the packing, to the moving etc and if there were any problems I filed a claim and someone dealt with all the legalities. So if you too have had this done for you over the years then you understand the headache of having to now do it from start to finish..... With all that said, Jonathan and his team did an amazing job with my long distance move! He was professional at all times, communicated everything in detail and left no room for uncertainty. He even offered to come out Saturday evening to help me with part 1 of my local move when there was some problems with my help which he didn't have to offer to do so. Day of the move: Communicated when they were in route and when they were 20 minutes out. Started on time, moved quickly while making sure to treat all my belongings as if it were their own. While on the road to my destination they communicated with me the entire time..... In a nutshell my experience was very pleasant and I will definitely use Harder's Movers for all my moves in the future!! Hire them you will be happy you did!!!

This team worked hard, worked well and worked fast. I moved into a house and hated the color of the walls. I decided to repaint the entire house but knew that there were parts of the process that I would have to get a professional to complete. When Marco and his team came to paint the staircase, it was clear to me that I was in over my head and they gave me a quote to paint the entire house. The price was reasonable so I accepted. After seeing the first coat, I was immediately elated. The color looked great and the quality of the work was incredible. Their crew was finished in 2 days with a two-level house. They took great care to protect the floors, trim and other areas of the house. I highly recommend them and would definitely use their services again.

Great group of guys (Brian, Nick & Robert) who took very good care of my furniture from storage to house. These guys hustle, even with the Texas heat and stairs. Brian and his team are a testament to the fact that you do not have to pay an arm and a leg for quality moving services. Will recommend Precision Movers to others moving in the future. Thanks guy!

Daniel was great! Not only was he professional and persistent with obstacles that UT Austin West Campus apartments presented, but he was also patient with me trying to coordinate moving in 2 college kids at the same time! He even went with me to the hardware store to buy screws and bolts for a TV mount! You can't go wrong!

Tammy and Anthony were awesome on the front end and Blake and Drew worked their butts off with the 11 hour move. Not one issue cropped up with Greater Austin Moving. Professional, courteous, and the best part is they're so very friendly! I would highly recommend them for any kind of move you might have. I used a cheaper company for a quck furniture move a couple of weeks ago and the list of issues was long. You definitely get what you pay for with Greater Austin Moving! This company is outstanding! Thanks for working so hard for the Boyd Family! Much appreciated!

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
