I worked with Derek when he was with a different personaltraining group. My experience was excellent. Derek absolutely respected my goals and motivation. He took time to assess my starting status; and from there create challenging but achievable goals for my strength training. I particularly appreciated his focus on technique; and compounding strength with balance and function. I am aware that training goals such as adding significant muscle mass and functional strength are not typically aligned with the goals personaltrainers typically apply to those of us in the "senior" demographic. Working with Derek was easy (not the work outs themselves however) and efficient. He also respected my need to be thoughtful about, and to minimize, my exposure to respiratory viruses. All good.

The most important quality I wanted in a bodybuilding coach was someone I would be comfortable with, especially because this was my first time competing. Derek is very approachable and easy to talk to. From the beginning I felt comfortable discussing all aspects of training and prep with him, and I felt like he really cared about how I was doing both physically and psychologically throughout our work together. Instead of just giving me lists of things to do, every time we had a new training block he listened to any input I had and he helped me to be more confident in making decisions for myself. It makes a big difference to work with someone who uses their knowledge to help guide you, while also encouraging you to take ownership of your training and the effort you put in. I think Derek does this really well.

Derek is truly an awesome coach to have behind you. He’s handled me at every meet I’ve competed at and has ensured each and every time that I’m prepared and ready to go. He understands how to handle my mental state and does everything in his power to ensure I give my best, and have a good time doing it. He’s prepared me enough to the point where I could probably handle myself for a meet, I just don’t want to because he makes it all the more of a better experience with him being there. His support, encouragement and presence cannot be replicated, from my very first meet to the very last and most competitive, he’s been there to handle me and I wouldn’t want it any other way. If you’re looking for a coach that’ll handle all the thinking for you and ensure you do your best, Derek is your man. He is the man.

I have found the several years I have been fortunate enough to train with Derek to be transformative. As one of his older clients (late 70’s) I have been impressed by his expertise as a fitness expert and his empathetic personality. I have lost weight and am physically stronger and healthier. Equally rewarding has been getting to know Derek as a friend and confident. I am happy to recommend Derek to individuals of all ages. Bill M.

Derek is easily the best trainer I have ever had in my 15 years of various personaltrainers. Not only he is a nice and smart individual, he also cares about his clients performing to their best. Under Derek's guidance, I was able to lift weights that I always thought were unattainable. I am also in the best shape of my life despite not dieting and being almost in my mid-40s.

This is to help both of us to get to the heart of what it is you're looking for so I can begin designing a program that is truly meant for you and to ensure you're cleared for exercise by your doctor.
