John Wassmuth Piano Studio
About
Welcome to my Piano Studio!
My goal as a piano teacher is to provide a comfortable environment in which to learn, create, and come to love music. I have taught lessons from beginner to advanced with an emphasis on technique, ear training, and music theory. It is my job as a teacher to incorporate these fundamental aspects of music into an individualized curriculum best suited for each student.
John has received his Master of Music degree from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, studying under the tutelage of Anton Nel where he was a teaching assistant. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University, studying under Steven Heyman.
John is on the piano faculty at St. Stephen's Episcopal School here in Austin, TX. In addition he is as a piano/chamber music faculty member at the Austria Summer Music Festival Program.

My nine-year-old daughter absolutely loves working with John. My husband and I have noticed a vast improvement in her technique and site-reading abilities in the six months he has been teaching her. John is always so patient with her and eager to resolve any issues she may have encountered while practicing. He makes piano lessons the best part of her week, which is a huge achievement for young kids! I will definitely be sending my younger daughter to John once she’s old enough to start lessons, as well. Hands down the best teacher we’ve found!

John is a fantastic piano teacher! As a student who already had previous experience (10+ years) but was on hiatus for piano performance for many years, I felt that John was able to help me identify areas that I needed to work on and restrengthen my basics in music comprehension and technique. I truly appreciated John's teaching style. I am typically very self-conscious when playing piano in front of others, but the teaching environment he created made me feel comfortable and gave me an opportunity to learn without hesitation. John is very knowledgeable about piano performance and learning from him has been incredibly rewarding. With John's guidance and encouragement, I was able to regain my confidence in performing and take initiative in my own learning.

John is an excellent piano instructor. He explains concepts and ideas in a way that is easy for me to understand and grasp quickly when learning new pieces. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with him!

John is an excellent piano teacher and even better guy. He put legitimate effort into my growth, success, and enjoyment as a piano player. He really helped me identify my weak points and improve on them. He also helped me take my playing further than just playing the notes on the page but understanding the feel and musicality of a piece and incorporating that into my performances. I would recommend him to anyone.

I worked with John for about a year. He was very flexible in scheduling, and would always arrive for in house lessons on time. He really enjoys teaching how to play piano and is patient with his students. He stresses that playing music is much more than just reading the notes on the page.
