- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have been a creative soul since I was a child, painting my room a different color every other month and rearranging my living room when my parents weren't paying attention and getting such a thrill from the pleasantly surprised looks I got from them. As a young adult I started out working at Pier One, Beall's department store and Foley's as a cashier and visual merchandiser and then took a big turn and became a paralegal. As a paralegal, I learned valuable skills that I apply in my interior design business today such as excellent writing, communication skills and time management skills. Eventually I realized my creative side took over and I developed a design business from an ad on my neighborhood bulletin board and my design career took off from there. I have been a freelance independent design consultant now for over 15 years and am living out the career of my dreams. I feel blessed!
