Becka is fantastic! Not only did she cook an in-home meal for 15 in a makeshift kitchen, but when I called her the day of with concerns that the "condos" we were staying at lacked the necessary tools to actually produce a meal, she told me that she had actually suspected that might be the case and had brought everything she needed to whip up (in a way that felt effortless) the most delicious 3 course meal our group of 15, very hungry women ate all weekend. From our first point of contact, Becka navigated our budget, menu preparation, communication, payment, and execution seamlessly and professionally (leaving the kitchen cleaner than she had found it). Anyone would be lucky to have her and Plate & Platter in their kitchen!

I contacted Becka about suprising my boyfriend for his birthday. We had been talking about learning to make homemade pasta for months and wanted to have a professional teach us. I found Becka online by chance and it was the best experience I could have wished for. Becka suggested a 3 course menu based upon some initial ideas I gave her, and worked with me to tweek it a bit. She arrived at my house with all the ingredients cleaned and pre measured. she walked us through every step and even explained the science behind creating flavors. She even cleaned up afterwards while we enjoyed the delicious butternut squash ravioli in brown butter and shrimp and tagatelli in vodka basil sauce. The evening was so amazing, I was engaged (literally) by the end of it. I highly recommend Becka for any culinary experience. In fact we are looking forward to taking another class with her.

Becka has cooked many meals for my family. She is professional, listens to our needs and preferences, and makes the entire family happy (which isn't easy with two teenagers). I leave creative decisions up to Becka and am always pleasantly surprised with the meals she provides. Each morning, I wake up looking forward to the delicious dinner I have in store just waiting for me to "arrange". For someone to loves to eat and considers the kitchen to be for retail-value-only, I recommend Becka's cooking as a life-saver.

Becka taught my family and I how to cook Cioppino, Caesar Salad, Two Pastas, and Creme Brûlée (admittedly more time consuming on a Friday evening than we expected) and did a phenomenal job! Not only was the food delicious, but Becka was a great teacher. She was personable, patient and positive, which made for such a fun night! I highly recommend Plate & Platter and personally plan on calling Becka the next time we have a special occasion to celebrate. 5 stars all around!

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

    I've always been interested in food but never followed it as a career choice until I had spent about 5 years in marketing and got burned out. I needed a change and went to culinary school to follow my passion. It was a wonderful experience and equipped me for starting my own business as a personal chef.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

    I have recently prepared many multi-course dinner parties for small groups of 2-12 people. Typically, clients will start with an appetizer or two, and then move on to a main dish that's plated with sides. They'll finish up with a beautifully plated dessert. The menu is constructed around their tastes so usually we'll try to highlight ingredients that are favored by the guest of honor in addition to using ingredients that are in season. I'm always creating new dishes for dinner parties, customized for specific clients.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

    I cooked for a group of 15 women who were all renting condos in town for a bachelorette party. The condos had no cooking equipment and the kitchen was teeny tiny without much lighting. I had brought two large containers of equipment with me, most of which was put to good use. I prepared an appetizer, main, two sides, and dessert for the large group in the small kitchen using only the things I had brought. It was definitely a challenge but made me feel like I could take on any challenge!
