Mr. McCracken built a new fence for us. He did an outstanding job, was very detailed oriented and delight to work with. We would recommend him to anyone needing a honest repairman who cares about his work product and provides excellent customer service at a price we can all afford. We cannot say enough good things about him and have referred him to several of our friends who are in need of home and fence repair/replacement.

Jason did an amazing job on a laundry list of tasks, ranging from installing wifi controlled light switches, replacing GFIs, fixing a leaky sink, installing new in ceiling speakers to completely restaining our fence. He was very polite, professional and reasonably priced. Jason clearly takes pride in his work and ensures that you are 100% satisfied. We highly recommend Jason for all of your handyman needs. He will be back to assist us with other tasks in the future.

Craig did an awesome job replacing my fence earlier this year after the wind blew it down. He removed the old fencing and put up the replacement fencing at an affordable price. My new fence is beautiful. Thanks again.

I have hired Joe and his crew for many jobs from fencing, masonry work, wall repair, painting and much more. I am a very picky person and want everything done to perfection and Joe has met my expectations every time. Joe is very timely with his appointments and returns calls promptly. The one thing that makes Joe and his crew different from everyone else is that can be trusted. One of my last jobs I had Joe do for me required him and his crew to be inside my home for four days and yes I was worried about my belongings just like everyone else would be but I had nothing to worry about. To this date, Joe and his crew is the only crew I have allowed in my home without me being there personally. I could not recommended a better than this one!!!!!

Nabil is very professional and responsive. We had him replace our fence last week and he did a great job. After the job was done and I had paid him in full, my neighbor called me to complain that one of the sprinkler heads had been damaged. When I contacted Nabil he could've easily ignored me since I had already paid him for his work, but instead he took the time to go back (twice since the first time our neighbors weren't home) and fix the problem - which was probably not caused by him in the first place since the damage was nowhere near the fence. This was a rental property and Nabil could've given me cheaper options, but instead he walked me through all my available options and pointed out that instead of the cheapest option, going with the mid-tier one made more sense. Upon his recommendation, we went with the slightly better fence, but hopefully it will last longer. Thanks Nabil for a job well done.

A good job overall. Fencing was installed in a high quality manner. (would prefer screws over nails but who wouldn't) Used treated rails and treated 2x6 kickboard. Highly recommend staining, properly priced, as they DIP all wood, including treated rails, with ReadySeal, providing 100% coverage-Excellent. Also stained the treated kickboard after installation. Properly cemented metal posts.Patrick and Lajenia were easy to work with. Took a bit longer than expected, but we are pleased with the work. Will likely use them for a double face project. Neighbors as well.

They were really good! the main reasons:-The quality of work, the timely manner in which they finished the work and best of all, value for the money spent. Communication with Raza was easy and he made sure everything was transparent and well-explained. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone I know. They have also offered to get my old roof replaced and hopefully I can get it done soon.

The communication with CMC was clear and professional. Eddie Rollins came out to give us a quote on replacing a gate and another section of our fence. While we talked, we mentioned that there was another long section of fencing that needed replacement and would he give us another quote including that too. It turned out that the sq. ft. cost dropped and the quote actually became more in line with our budget! They came out to the house for tear down one day, parked out of the way of our neighbors (we have limited curb space), and came back the next day to finish the fence. Our new cedar fencing is beautiful (I wish it could stay as pretty but this is Texas after all) and we appreciate the good work CMC and Eddie did for us.

Chong and his crew were amazing! I had been shopping around for fence quotes and there were so many redicilious quotes even when I'm asking for the same exact things. I save thousands doing business with Five-Star renovations and not to mention the work quality is amazing and Chong made sure to talk to me about every detail along the way. Chong and his crew were very nice and respectful. Overall I am extremely happy with my fence and would definitely be using Five-Star renovations for future project!

Eddy did such an amazing job on our fence. We needed something to go around our pool and he had great ideas and did an excellent job. His prices were also the best of all those we had quote the job. He was very respectful of my kids and animals while working on our property. If you need a fence, Eddy is your man.

I chose TRUTEX Contracting due to their ability to manage all areas of the needed work, Fencing, Roofing, Painting and Gutters. I wanted to deal with one contractor for all services. I found their work to be professional, complete, timely and accurate. The biggest advantage was their ability to represent me with my Insurance Company. They were masters at reducing the stress and red tape usually associated when dealing with Insurance. I will use TRUTEX for additional work when needed and offer my recommendation of TRUTEX Contracting to anyone needing similar services.

Shout out to D&M Welding Fences and Gates! Desi was prompt and professional, and the handrails were exactly as I asked for. Highly recommended! My parents needed a little extra help getting in and out of the house and these are very sturdy. Feels good to know they are that much safer. I will definitely use Desi for any upcoming work.

JC provided a competitive bid and was responsive to all of our questions up front as we reworked scope of the irrigation project to what we needed. We had him add a new drip zone for raised beds. JC and his crew were flexible with our scheduling and came when they said they would. The installation was completed to what we requested and JC said he will come back to test everything two days after to make sure it is functioning properly once the pvc connections are dry. Will update the review if needed then.

Trevor provided repair to two gates and completely rebuilding a section of fence between my house and the next=door neighbor. He responded to my request promptly, he explained everything to me thoroughly, and provided a reasonable estimate for the project as to pricing and how long it would take. My fence and gate look great! I will definitely call him again when I'm ready to replace the entire fence - which I hope get done by the end of next summer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
