Dr. Bob Lawrence is an outstanding musician and teacher of music. I have been studing piano with Bob for two years. He is very good at teaching the technical aspects of playing the piano, but more importantly he teaches the theory behind what you are doing so you have a complete understanding of what you're learning and why you were learning it. I would highly recommend Dr. Bob Lawrence and the Dallas School of Music for anyone that wants to learn music whether they are a beginner or advanced.

Overall, I have much enjoyed my time at DSM. The staff is always upbeat (pun intended), amiable, accommodating, and quite talented. They typically define their expectations well, set realistic goals, and follow-up lessons with feedback and review. Their new facilities are clean, well lit, comfortable, and very well suited to the school's use. A better environment for learning music would be hard to imagine.
Having recently built a classical guitar, I wanted to add classical music to the repertoire of rock and popular music I'd played for many years. That repertoire was learned almost entirely by ear and without any formal study of musical theory. Studying at DSM has given me a theoretical understanding of what I've been doing for years, has forced an improvement in my technique, and required me to apply the theory into improvisation. I am cognizant that some understanding of theory is necessary to learning classical music. My only wish is that the learning thus far had included some classical material and technique as a part of this process as I'd hope at the outset it would.
Nevertheless, this is an excellent opportunity to pursue musical interests.

For the last 8 years my daughters and I have taken music lessons at the Dallas School of Music. The caliber of instruction is unsurpassed. The instructors are professional musicians and educators. We will continue to take lessons at DSM for many years ahead.

I've taken piano lessons with Bob for seven years now, and it has been an excellent experience. He tailors the lessons and the training approach to the individual, rather than applying a "one size fits all" approach. He has been extremely accommodating of my schedule, and rapidly responds to questions I have regarding material we've covered. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Lawrence has been for me a great instructor. He is intuitive, adaptive, and engaging. He's tailored his teaching methods, materials, and modes to my needs, interests, and learning style - for me, a very satisfying and rewarding learning experience.
