Nazim couldn't have been better about communication throughout the process. He arrived right on time for my event, and it was evident that he wanted to get the video/photos perfect for us. He also got the video back to us very quickly (within a couple of weeks of the event). The video quality was good; the sound quality of the video wasn't as good as we hoped, but that is because of a rough video angle/set-up and outdoor conditions. Overall, I would highly recommend Nazim's services.

I hired Amir to take pictures at my daughter's first birthday and couldn't be happier. There is nothing I like more than getting my money's worth - his rate was among the lowest offers with the highest most rated reviews. It seemed like a no brainer to hire him and I was right. Amir is a professional photographer who knows exactly what to do. He showed up early and was already shooting away before I even got there. He was super easy to work with, great with children, and very attentive to your needs. I will be hiring him again for every event or photography needs! Thanks Amir!

There aren't enough glowing things I can say! I spent so much time the day of my wedding trying not to be a sobbing mess, but when I look back at the photos, they literally bring me to tears. I knew she was very talented and did wonderful work, and I was sure she would capture my day beautifully, but I just can't express enough how blown away I was. My husband and I were living across the country from one another the majority of our engagement, so our wedding was our chance to finally come together after the stress of being apart, and that story could not have been captured in photos better. We looked at a lot of photographers, and what differentiated her to us was how consistent the images were. I saw a lot of photographers that would have a couple of really amazing shots from a wedding, but when we looked through a full wedding, it felt like a lot of cheesy snapshots with a few good ones thrown in. When we go through our photos, we love every single one beginning to end. They are consistently amazing and help us relive the emotions of our day every time. We couldn't afford a videographer also, so the photos were very important to us, and we really splurged on the photography but it was worth it. If you are looking for a photographer that is laid back but gives direction well and takes beautiful photos, you will be very pleased with her work.

Absolutely brilliant team. Great service before and after the event. Our highlights video could not be better - we will cherish it forever. I would not be surprised to see these guys in the credits of Hollywood blockbusters in a few years - get them as your wedding videographers now before they are famous. For the amount of hours they spend planning and editing as well as the filming on the day - they are exceptional value. Could not be happier.

I hired him just for speakers and microphones for my wedding, I played my own music. He was very responsive and easy to work with. He was very punctual and dropping off and even came back that night at the end to pick up. I would highly recommended using lone star karaoke for your next event.

We hired Joshua for our wedding and he did an amazing job! He was so patience with us (since we kept switching things with him). He was very good with communicating with the guests and knowing when to have the right kind of music playing. I would recommend hiring him for any event!

Julian did a great job videoing my daughter, Jessica's wedding. He was very prompt and professional and was able to accommodate our last minute timeline. He brought another videographer with him which was such an added bonus because they were able to capture the event from different perspectives. He captured everything - from beginning to the end. The highlight video was such a pleasant surprise. Instead of just having a song playing in the background, he added a portion at the beginning with my husband conducting the wedding ceremony. I loved it. It will be something that our family will treasure for years and generations to come. Thank you so very much, Julian for capturing this special day!!!

Eileen and Howe were so great to work with for our corporate event photography! We had a two-day conference with 19 speakers and over 400 attendees. They were able to take great shots of the speakers, our sponsors and exhibit booths along with great crowd shots. She and Howe were very professional and gave us back our photos within days after the event along with video footage and a video montage. We will definitely keep in touch for future photography services! www.einsurancesymposium.com

Hands down the nicest guy to work with throughout our event planning process.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for setting me up with Hubert Pralitz and James Michael Williams to play at our wedding back in June in McKinney. They did a fantastic job! For many years I dreamed of having live classical music playing at my ceremony and that was a detail I did not want to pass up on. It was something I had to have and these two delivered and made my dream come alive in more ways than one. You have no idea. They have no idea. All of my guests have commented on how beautifully they both played. The icing on the moment was when they played while my friend sang The Prayer. I cannot convey how much that song means to me and it was a detail that I had to make happen. And boy did it happen! It was truly beautiful! As I watch the video it amazes me that they never rehearsed together yet they all meshed so beautifully as if they had done this many times before. That is a sign of truly talented musicians. My only regret is that I did not get to personally meet Hubert and James after our ceremony therefore I did not get to personally thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their talent with us. As you can imagine, after the ceremony things moved very quickly and we were whisked here and whisked there. Before I knew it, they had left and I did not get a chance to speak with them both. If you could do me a huge favor, please let them know how wonderful they were, how much this all meant to me and that I thank you them very much. Feel free to share this email as well. By the way, my friend Desiree had nothing but wonderful things to say about Hubert and James and she was delighted to work with them.

Ali and his son are amazing and super hard working. When you use sites like this, it's always scary if you'll end up with the right person, but they are amazing videographers and photographers. I'm so enthralled by my beautiful pictures and the amazing extra work he did on them. Made my special day memorable and 100% more special. I highly recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
