The price was affordable, the movers were very professional and got it done within 2 hrs, that was awesome. However, I discovered after they left that they didn't assemble everything that they disassembled and I had small scrap markings on the bottom of my heavy chest that looked like they pushed it (not carry) against the road or concrete. Other than that the guys did a good job. I'll refer them to someone but just ask that they be vigilant.

Very competent crew. These guys met and exceeded our expectations. Originally I was very concerned that hiring a moving company that is paid hourly would cost a fortune as the movers could simply work slower and charge much more. The team I worked with actually did the exact opposite of "working slow"! These guys were so fast that I couldn't breakdown the the beds and shelves fast enough to be of any help. I also appreciated the owner actually coming to the house each day to check on his team, and to address any concerns I might have (That's "old school" customer service that you rarely see in today's business culture.). Great company, engaged owner, competent team members, and low prices.... What more could I ask for?

Absolutely excellent service from these guys. Thomas (the owner) promptly showed up at the requested time with 4 of his men. I received an hourly rate and unlike some movers who might take their time when working by the hour, these guys were extremely quick yet careful. They were patient, courteous and truly a joy to be around for the 2 hours we spent moving. If you are looking for cost efficient movers that will give you A+ plus service then look no further. I definitely will be using Elite Movers of Fort Worth for any moves in the future.

Andrew and his crew picked up my organ earlier than expected and waited for us to get home from the movies. They were affordable and took very good care of my organ throughout the pickup and delivery. They were friendly and professional and very affordable compared to other movers who weren't specialized in piano/organ moving. I would hire them again if I ever need to move my organ!

I've hired movers many times for previous moves and I can tell you hands down, that Lori's team at We Can Do It is the absolute BEST I've ever hired! Lori is a pleasure to work with! She was so considerate of our moving budget and worked with us every step of the way! Chris was our head mover and he was very knowledgeable! He worked at a careful, but consistent pace and made sure to wrap all our furniture for moving! I will definitely be working with Lori's team again and if I could give them 10 stars I would!

From start to finish this move was the best ever due to this moving company. Mike and Rodney are the best! On time, professional, quick and very low cost! Not one single item was scuffed or damaged. They were as careful with my belongings as I imagine they would be with their own personal things. I would recommend these guys a million times over. Really on point!

I called Special Ops Moving Company the same day I had to move out of my old place to a new one because the company I originally hired cancelled on me that day after noon. Not only was Special Ops transparent with the price, clear with the process & responsive they were reasonably priced and the movers were friendly. They made a high stress & bad situation manageable and pleasureable.

This was a great deal! $65/hr plus trip charge of $29 with no stairs fee. There is also a 3.5% fee if you used a debit or credit card to pay instead of using cash. You get 2 movers and a Penske rental truck. It was cheaper than a lot of competitors. However, the punctuality was not great at all. I scheduled a move date for Monday, and was contacted by the owner on Monday 2 hours before move that they will need to reschedule my move due to his fiancé pregnancy difficulties. Being pregnant myself, I understood but very disappointed and discouraged bc it set me back a day. I owned and operate a credit repair business from my apartment, I have to keep the doors close for 3 days instead of 2. When I asked for a discount due to the inconvenience of rescheduling, I was told no that I was already given a discount of the initial price of $65 - keep in mind this is the price that was given me when the owner contacted me about moving service. Overall, they got the job done in a hour and half, moving my biggest items from one apartment to another in the same apartment complex. The 2 movers followed my directions, was very nice, and effective. One of them gave my bf a bottle of wine, to celebrate the coming of the new baby! I thought that was nice. I did have a scruff mark on my DVD/TV stand but at this point, I’m just glad to have most of my things moved. Would I use them again, I’m not sure... I probably would if the price is right. But keep in mind u get what u pay for and the value they offer for $65 was still great! This is my honest review!

Really was impressed but the quality and professionalism of Theo and his crew. I had a scheduling mess up and they were able to get me moved even with a 3day delay. They responded to all of my messaging in a timely manner. On the day of the move they actually called me 3 hrs early to get jump on my job. From the time they arrived until finish they were great and for the cost you won’t find better movers. Best moving value in DFW. I’ve already recommend and referred them to a friend. Thank you “Extra Set of Hands”

My wife and I hired Brett and his working partner Andrew of their company American Eagle Relocation Services, that they have established and are working to grow, to help us move from a two-bedroom to a one-bedroom apartment and take some more items to a storage unit farther south of Dallas on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Her and I were very impressed with their business. They came about 5 minutes before their start time to help us move. Even better, they had great equipment to help make the move by a two-man team done efficiently and well. Compared to most movers I've worked with, they communicated with each other very well and better than any mover I've done business with on how to get very heavy items such as our desks, upright piano, king-sized bed, dressers, and etc. down a flight of stairs from the second floor to the first floor. Their ability to communicate with each other is what made them a great team dedicated to making sure nothing broke, that everything was boxed up well enough, and that everything was packed on the truck in a well, organized manner. They wrapped just about everything that they felt needed a heavy duty blanket and shrink wrap. They handled their work with care and professionalism. If you are in need of a mover and you need a top pro to get the job done, don't hesitate to pick up the phone and call these guys. I really mean it because I hired one mover through Thumbtack to pick up a few items from Waco to Dallas back in August and they were no where near as good or in the same league as these guys were. I, mean, honestly. Also, they are very easy-going guys and nice to talk to. My wife and I are definitely going to hire them again in the future if we ever move again.

We're in the midst of rehauling a fixer upper, and were completely exhausted from all the work. I was hesitant about hiring movers because of cost, and because I have a lot of fragile items, antiques, and paintings. I couldn't be more glad that we hired NorthernStar. They were polite, friendly, helpful, incredibly fast and INCREDIBLY careful. It took so much stress off of us, and there wasn't a chip, crack, or scrape along the way. Y'all, thank you so much for your work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
