In 2013 we decided to put our Ft Worth house on the market. I interviewed several Realtors including Sharon Hodnett. At the onset of my meeting with Sharon I found her to exude confidence. During her presentation she provided endless testimonies and reports exemplifying her countless accomplishments and awards, and throughout the interview she would state how “she is the best” in her field. Needless to say I was very impressed! However, since we’d never worked with her before we were a little skeptical of her ability and unfortunately we decided to go with a friend’s referral, which we fired the very first day due to her enormous lack of integrity and professionalism. Immediately, I called Sharon and asked if she would consider being our Realtor, and she said “of course, I’d be happy to”. That decision to work with Sharon as our Realtor did not disappoint us from the beginning to the end of the house sale. Her presentation to the buyer got us our asking price, and they were the first person to see our house. Her customer service was impeccable, she was always on time, very professional with a high sense of integrity, always and directly available (that was very important to us), utilized every known resource to market our home, she was so helpful with tips on staging and other selling advice, and she put us and our needs first. I would highly recommend her, and have, and now we’re looking forward to her expertise in buying a new house and home. She really is “the best”!

Jane made our homebuying experience in Plano a breeze. She set up appointments, was always on time, helped with our offer, and, of course, the contract. She followed up with the seller as necessary to be sure all inspection points were cleared. Her detailed analysis of the market price was over the top. The house was not yet on the market, and she strongly suggested we offer the asking price because, as she said, "if it goes to an open house, the offers will be way over the asking price." Christi was great! She had a daunting task trying to sell my home and I was very demanding in several aspects. She accomplished EVERYTHING I requested and my house sold far more quickly than I had anticipated. If you just need a regular realtor, go anywhere you want. But, if you need someone who will find out what you want and need and tailor things to meet that, go to Christi. She was the best realtor I have ever worked with.

We were relocating from out of state to the North Dallas area and did not know a thing about where to live. We were wanting to find a good neighborhood for our children with excellent schools, as well as being close to my husbands work and the airport. Doug Shanahan helped us find the perfect town and neighborhood for our family (Flower Mound TX) He listened to my exact wants and needs (and there were a lot!), and went above and beyond to show us homes. He would even face-time me to show me houses if I could not be there in person to look at it. The level of service and commitment did not stop after we bought the house either. After we moved in, he and his wife Lauren have given us many referrals for contractors, landscapers, pediatricians and even babysitters. They have invited us out to meet some of the people that live in our area and have checked in on us many times. I would recommend Doug Shanahan to anyone looking for a realtor that is knowledgeable, reliable, honest and thorough. I will definitely use him again when we need him!

    What's the difference between a real estate broker and an agent?

    Real estate agents and real estate brokers both help clients buy, sell, and rent residential and commercial properties. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, real estate brokers are licensed to manage their own real estate businesses. Real estate agents cannot have their own real estate office and must work under a broker. Real estate brokers often have real estate firms and employ real estate agents. That said, you also want someone who can play hardball and maximize your real estate deal. Ask for references from recent clients, and be sure to call them.

    What do real estate agents charge?

    Real estate agents typically don’t charge a set rate to their clients, but rather earn a commission on the price of the final home sale. In traditional real estate, there is a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent. The two agents receive 5 percent to 6 percent of the final home sale price and split it evenly, meaning they each earn roughly 2.5 percent to 3 percent of the total home sale. If you are a home seller, you may have fees associated with the sale that are above and beyond the commission the agents earn. The real estate agent may have you pay marketing fees, MLS fees, early cancellation fees, or more. Always ask pricing details before signing a contract so you clearly understand your financial obligations. Here are some of the average (and common) costs that can arise when selling a home:

    • Home inspection: $200-$350 or more, depending on region.
    • Home appraisal: $250-$400 or more, depending on region.
