I had this guy come out last year in Sept. of 2017 and I am writing this review in July 2017. I had gotten bed bugs from buying a futon off of Craigslist that had an infestation apparently. Upon trying to get rid of the futon I made the situation worst and basically ended up getting them across my home. John responded to me right away and gave me a reasonable quote. Also gave me a back up that said he would come back out if I still had issues. I followed his directions to a "T" and I can confidently say that I have not seen a bed bug since! I would highly, highly, highly recommend!!! Great service, great communication, very professional! Thank you John!

I've waited about 10 days to post my review to be sure the bed bugs were gone. So far, so good. I had a good experience with M&M Pest. Mike was very responsive to inquiries & the tech that came out, Brandon, was very knowledgeable. He took the time to explain what he was going to do & how it would rid us of the bugs. I am happy with the results & would recommend this vendor to you for bedbug extermination. I had them do the whole house heat treatment. I fought these things on my own & could never win the battle. But, in less than 10 days after the Pros treated, we are not seeing them at all. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was because of a couple of damaged items. Nothing major but I would have appreciated being told about it rather than discovering it after the fact.

I needed to have a condo that I own in Dallas exterminated for roaches. I didn't want to go with the BIG GUYS, as I prefer to build a relationship with people I do business with. Jeremy was very personable and thoroughly explained his process. From call ONE he showed me that he wanted my business..without being pushy. Attention to detail, prompt, serves a wide area of DFW and he also returns a few weeks afterward to check progress. Very fair price. My tenet is very pleased with results and I'm very pleased with the service Jeremy provided. I'll definitely keep him as my "bug guy" and refer him to others. The only thing he needs is a Facebook page! Thanks Jeremy. Excellent job.

Chris was informative and quick to respond. My husband and I bought a house in the M streets and were ravaged by mosquitoes and the interior had giant cockroaches. Chris came out sprayed and since it hadn't been maintained in a long time did a second spraying...no more bugs, just how I want it. His price was competitive and he did what he said he would do. So we signed up for yearly contract.

James sprayed the house inside and out. Haven't seen any bugs except dead ones. Six months later still killing bugs. I have dogs so I was concerned with the chemicals bothering my dogs. James assured me dogs would be fine. Thanks James for killing all the spiders! I will be using drop shot quarterly to make sure bugs and spiders don't return. James also killed two fire ant mounds and with all the rain I should've seen more mounds by now. I have finally found someone who gets rid of fire ants instead of just moving them around my yard. Very good service. I highly recommend!

I had a problem with bugs that I had never saw before I moved to Texas, so I hired Alamo. Troy Reiter came out promptly and professionally. He conducted a thorough inspection, told me what problems I was having inside and outside the house, and told me the options to eliminate the issue. I'm pregnant and wanted to clear this up before the baby arrives, and Troy definitely helped us out. I will definitely be continuing services with Alamo for preventative maintenance!

This was the most thorough job I have ever had. It included removing spider webs under the eaves and dusting for every kind of insect on the yard beyond what was expected. There was no skimping inside or outside paying attention to all aspects. I will keep the service to maintain this very complete initial treatment.

I recently moved into the DFW area from California. Little did I know there was a lot of bugs here in Texas. Getting to know my neighbors they gave me Daniels number who was known as the neighborhood bug guy. I gave him a call and let him know the issues I was having and asked if he could come out to tell me the details of their service. He came in a timely manner and was very professional. He was very helpful in taking care of my bug issues, cob webs near my front door, wasp nest, etc. He also let me know about their guarantee satisfaction and if I had any other issues or problems they would come out and take care of it. I was very satisfied with the service and would recommend anybody looking for a bug guy to give Daniel a call.

Chris came out and examined live bed bug samples and confirmed activity from live sample. Scheduled service and service was performed as professionally as can be expected. Chris kept me updated every step of the way and was happy to answer as many questions as I would ask during inspection, service and after service! Highly recommend!

I have been using Home Exterminating Services for several years. They have provided us with termite inspections for homes we have sold and bought. They have performed fertilization and pest treatment for our trees and most recently have helped us eradicate some rodents in the attic. We use home exterminating to perform treatment around our house every two months and have had not issues with bugs in the house. They are always on time and communicate if running late for an appointment.

I rented heaters a few weeks ago, and it was super easy to setup! Really just like plugging in a fan and pressing the on switch. After following the instructions from Jazz, I didn't ever see bed bugs again! Saved like $700!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How long does a bed bug treatment last?

Bed bug extermination can last forever as long as the treatment killed all the bed bugs (and their eggs) and if new bed bugs are not transported into the location. Factors that can affect the outcome are how severe the infestation is and whether all bed bug sources were properly identified and treated. When working with a pest control professional, the EPA recommends you check and call references; ask if they offer both chemical and non-chemical treatment options, if they recommend both encasements and interceptors, and if they offer two or more service visits and follow-up. Bed bugs are tiny (adults are roughly the size of an apple seed) and can hide anywhere a credit card can slide into. They squeeze into cracks in walls, behind electrical outlet sockets, in bedding, and in other dark places. Learn how to prepare your home for a bed bug treatment for the best outcomes. Michigan State University shares some examples of possible reasons that a bed bug extermination is not 100 percent effective:

    • Not all sources (aka hiding places) of the bed bugs were identified during initial inspection.
    • Not all sources of bed bugs were treated.
    • The insecticides used were not effective or, in the case of heat treatment, there was insufficient contact time.
    • Infested items such as bedding or other materials were reintroduced into a cleaned area.

How do you check for bed bugs?

If you are concerned you have a bed bug infestation, look for physical signs of their presence. Bed bugs love to hide in small, dark spaces and typically come out to feed (generally on human blood) after dark — although they will come out in daylight if hungry enough. The Environmental Protection Agency states that indications of an infestation can include seeing shed exoskeletons of bed bugs, rusty spots on your bedding (which are either bug droppings or bloodstains), live bed bugs, bed bug egg casings, a sweet and musty odor (if the infestation is severe), and evidence of bites on your skin.

To spot bed bugs, look in and along mattress seams and bedding, in curtain and furniture folds, inside cracks or crevices in the walls, behind picture frames and mirrors, under loose wallpaper seams, on recently used luggage or backpacks, inside electronics, and inside clothing or cluttered areas such as closets. If you see signs of bed bugs, be careful not to disturb them too much as you don’t want them scattering to other parts of your house.

How do you get and get rid of bed bugs?

Bed bugs can travel into your home via luggage, secondhand furniture or clothing, and other items that have been exposed to the little pests. Bed bugs are tiny and flat (about the size of an apple seed and the height of a credit card), so they can easily hide in dark, small places and hitchhike into your home. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people don’t even know they’re transporting bed bugs as they travel from location to location, infecting areas as they travel. The sooner you notice a bed bug infestation in your home, the easier it is to get rid of it. The EPA suggests an integrated pest management plan to get rid of bed bug problems. This means a multi-pronged approach that takes the bug’s life cycle into account, uses chemical treatment where needed, and takes all necessary measures (use of encasements, high heat washing and drying of bedding, etc.) to stop current and future life cycles. Unless you feel confident about controlling a bed bug infestation, it can be wise to hire a pest management professional to prevent the problem from getting bigger.
