They arrived as scheduled for appraisal. Scheduled to return today around 1pm to take care of leaves and give estimate on irrigation system. Also agreed to weekly mowing. They were very cooperative, but have yet to call or arrive. Hopefully, they will be here today.

Sam was very responsive and always showed up on time. He was very efficient and very helpful. We have had several people look at our timer, but Sam was very quick to diagnose and fix our issue. If we ever have any issues with our irrigation system, I will certainly give him a call.

To me there is more than just the quality of the work. There is the attitude of the worker. David did a superior job on reestablishing an "old" not usable irrigation system at a price that was so very reasonable. The job took a little longer than expected due to all the rain we had. David worked with me on the scheduling of when the work could be done during all the rain. With all the extra "mud" of digging up ground & the rain, the clean up was the best I have seen!! When the job was finished, David explained in an understandable manner, how things would work . I was told if anything went wrong, it would be taken care of right away. David's services have already been requested by several neighboring home owners.

Joshua proved to be a good professional, dependable, with good communication skills and, with knowledge to discern the solution of electric problems. Josh and his crew not only installed 5 garden lights, but also fixed and improved the system by recommending better quality of parts, and a safer way of instillation. He did a good work at a reasonable cost.

David and his crew did great job removing a lot of dirt, installing the drain and the new sod. They even hooked the gutter run off into the drainage system. They were professional and polite especially to my parents who kept going out to watch them work because they we interested in the process from start to finish. We discussed everything up front and He confirmed everything via text. The price was was good and I received a lot of quotes. I would recommend David and his crew, use them again and recommend them to my friends! Thanks again David.

Santo and his team were absolutely amazing! Not only was his price competitive but his work was phenomenal. He built out our flower bed around the pool and did stone and brick work around our house and trees. His thoroughness resulted in creating a drainage system to enable the longevity of our plants.

The process was easy and the job was scheduled quickly. They did a great job with old plant removal and new planting as well as tweaking my sprinkler system for adequate water coverage. Also added a brick border to eliminate erosion problem. My new bed looks so much better. Green Landscape was professional, courteous, efficient, and reasonable. I will use them again.

Texas Best is good to work with. I recently had an irrigation system installed by another company but when I had a problem they would not honor the guarantee. I called Texas Best and they came out the same evening, explained what went wrong, and fixed it. They are fair, accommodating, and professional. I will hire them again for any problems I encounter in the future.

Adan prepped our irrigation system, made minor repairs and got our system operational for this year. He also installed some low voltage/high intensity lighting in the front flowerbeds that included tunneling under the sidewalk. He was prompt and very cordial. He completed the job quickly, competently and the bill was extremely reasonable. I would suggest him to all my friends and family. I will definitely use him again. Jerry Joyner

Had these guys install a drainage system on my property. They finished a 100’ drain in less than a day and it works perfectly. We no longer have a huge pond on the side of our house.

Brian was prompt, friendly, extremeley knowledgeable and skilled. He quickly found and repaired the issues with our system. He communicated what he was doing and why all along the way. He did not upsell or pressure to replace or upgrade, which I have experienced with other irrigation companies. I highly recommend Brian and look forward to working with him again in the future.

Ryan did a great job making my irrigation system work for the first time since we bought the house. Since it hasn't ran in so long there were obviously tons of issues and he was able to diagnose and repair them all quickly and at a great price!

Giuseppe always arrived on time. Work was completed on schedule. All the workers were friendly and professional. I was impressed that all the workers were knowledgable of what they were doing and they could answer my questions and offer advice. Obviously the crew has worked together for a long time. They even helped clean up after a storm. The new irrigation system was planned and installed expertly. No leaks or adjustments have been needed since it was installed. Front lawn and new stone walkway look great. New flower bed design was appropriate to the house and looks great.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
