These guys were exceptional. I called Mr. Brooks at the last minute because he was the best rate going considering the amount of things I had to move from a house to an apartment (I had to downsize my life considerably) as well as the distance of the move; from deep in Missouri City off Hwy 6 to the middle of Downtown Houston. Other companies wanted to charge $65 per hour to $99 per hour with a two hour minimum and something they called a movers fee of $69. Just when I thought I was gonna have to take a ride with the fee the other moving companies were charging I read a message on thumbtack from Mr. Brooks stating that he could move me for $175 based on the amount of furniture I had and I jumped on it. I will say I was a bit apprehensive because his price was so low in comparison to the others... and as that old adage goes, "You get what you pay for." I got more than what I paid for. 1) exceptional customer service, 2) personable personalities, 3) hard working and efficient gentleman that enjoyed what they were doing. I moved furniture as a means to make money when I was in college so I know first hand how tough being a mover can be. I highly recommend these guys to anybody else in need of a moving company. I would really like to see these guys expand and grow, if I wasn't in financial transition right now I would put money behind them to do such. To help them better serve you always be upfront and honest about the exact things you will need to move. It assists them with their logistics...I threw some things in at the last minute but they made it work. If you are reading this Mr. Brooks I would like to thank you and your helper for your service. Sincerely, R I Norsworthy 832 983 0379

The movers did a good job loading and unloading the items. We moved items from a storage unit to a house which they were able to complete in 5 hours. The only constructive criticism I have for this company is to honor the booked time. We booked and confirmed for a 8a start time but the movers didn't arrive until 9:15a. The coordinator Ms Veronica failed to clearly state there is a two hour window for your appointment time. I wasn't notified of the "two hour window" for appointments until after the fact. In the quote they only mentioned a minimum of two hours to booked the movers which is completely different than setting an appointment time.

We hired J & M Move-It for a long distance move. Not only was their bid at least 50% LESS than the competition, they did an AWESOME job. They arrived when they said they would, loaded everything quickly & efficiently, and arrived at the destination & unloaded way before our deadline. There were no marks or dings on the walls or wood floors. Every item was handled with care & it was all properly loaded & strapped down for the trip. Both guys were very professional & friendly. I would absolutely hire them again & I will definitely recommend them. Thanks guys for a great, stress-free moving experience!

I shopped around for movers that I could afford and that also did not have a lot of negative reviews. I was only moving a short distance, from one apartment to another, so I was not expecting it to take long even though movers in the past have taken way too long, broken things and even stolen from me.. so I was nervous and skeptical about hiring movers at all. I was given a time window of 3-5 and two movers arrived just a little after 3. They were quick, wrapped up any furniture that could possibly be scratched or damaged and extremely professional. By 4:45 I was completely moved. Nothing was broken, damaged or missing either! Extremely satisfied and would definitely use them again.

This was our first time using movers and we didn’t know what to expect. These guys were awesome! They were a little late but with the rain I couldn’t been upset. The guys worked HARD during the entire process. Towards the middle I started to help carry boxes down from our upstairs but they promptly stopped me and told me they would take care of it. They were very very helpful. I would highly recommend and hire again!

Bellhops did a great job. Last year when I moved itens to the storage facility, the movers I used back in 2016 did a horrible job. The other company played around and scratched items. It was a nightmare because new furniture with no marks was scratched. The Bellhop team did a great job. I am so relieved. I was stressed because of last year and Bellhops eased my concerns. I am very pleased with the Bellhop team. They were amiable and cordial! I am so grateful. Three furniture items were from my childhood furniture set and at least 32 years old. They took great care.

These guys were awesome. I don't think they made a single scratch in moving all of my furniture. that includes moving a gym size elliptical trainer through a narrow hall, tipping it vertically, rotating to get it through into the new room. Nice movers. 3 people, they worked at a very good pace to keep things moving but not so fast that it ended up in carelessness. My move was a short move. not sure if there is a difference in long-distance moves. They put the boxes in the rooms we asked.

Their service was excellent. Their price point was right on. They were on time, handled my prize possessions with care. My three movers (Paul, Juan & Eric) worked together as a team to accomplish all tasks. I would definitely recommend them. Zeke coordinated all efforts from office, came to my house prior to move to give me a very fair bid. It was a very pleasurable experience all around.

I had a great experience moving with Righteous Movers. I had to do a very quick long-distance move for a new job and from the phone consultation, quote, and movers showing up to my apartment everything with smoothly. They are competitive in pricing. The movers were very professional and knowledgeable. I planned to move my items in a upack container, which is very challenging itself, and the movers strategically packed all my items in the very small space. If I were to ever move back to Houston, I would definitely use them again.

Chris and Travis were amazing. My son was moving to attend law school and we needed help loading a trailer. I was going to pull the trailer while my son followed behind me. They were very professional and respectful of our things. They were very intent on getting things done within the time frame I requested without risking the distribution of weight in the trailer. They were concerned with my driving a long distance while pulling a trailer that wasn't packed to safest capacity. Very personable men who I would hire again without doubt. I will be hiring them again when my son returns and will recommend them to anyone in need of the services they provide.

Can't recommend these guys highly enough! We used their company to move from our apartment in the city to our first house, about two hours away. They were very professional throughout the process - right from setting up the move and details (crew size, insurance, special items like a piano etc) to the actual move itself. They were very transparent about the initial estimates, time and size of crew required for the move. A day before the move we got a call from them to double check and touch base and see if we needed to add any services. On the day of the move the crew showed up on time and were very professional and efficient. They laid out the plan for us and proceeded to execute it flawlessly. The entire move went like clockwork. The guys were friendly, quick, and handled every piece of furniture with care. They appreciated that we had boxed everything...and I mean EVERYTHING (no loose cables or anything) in advance and that made their move go much quicker than anticipated. I was so stressed about the move but these guys made it such a pleasant and stress free experience. For a Long Distant move I would recommend them highly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
