The team started an hour later than expected and took almost twice as long as they predicted to pack and again to move our stuff (1bdr apt). The packing services provided were stellar, not one thing broken!! The team was pleasant and very hard-working. I would not recommend the unpacking service. They threw linens in the back of the linen closet, even though I know they were folded in the box.

We were very happy with Red Carpet moving Co. They were on time, professional and never stopped moving while literally wrapping every piece of furniture with their packing blankets. Our move went well and we would use them again. But hopefully we won't be moving anytime soon. We highly recommend Red Carpet Moving Co. They care about your move.

CJ and Derrick showed up on time and with a smile, even though they were working later than normal business hours. They took extra time to make sure that our wall were not damaged, the furniture was placed properly, and that we were comfortable with them. They even helped us rearrange our living room, which was a very last minute decision. I am definitely going to be using their services in the future, and recommend them to all my friends.

Sound Moving Solutions helped me with furniture moving from one apartment unit to another on the same property. From start to finish, they were polite, professional, thorough, and eager to please, and all for a very reasonable price. They moved two large bookcases, two desks, and a queen size bed (all parts, which they disassembled and reassembled) for me. They also assisted with cleaning, and offered to mount any TVs. All of this was done at a swift pace and with enthusiasm. With some of the horror stories you can read on the Internet about cut-rate moving companies that work slowly or break your furniture, I am greatly pleased to have found a company that takes its work and its clients seriously. If I had need of moving services again, Sound Moving Solutions would be first on my list -- period.

I cannot say enough great things about Ron and Blake at Integrity Moving! Hands down it is the best moving experience! As someone who moves frequently, I have used their services multiple times in apartments, storage units, and most recently into a two-story house. They have always shown up on time and worked efficiently, and are extremely professional and courteous. They have been referred to many of my friends and family. They take the time to wrap and unwrap my furniture, glass, and artwork and have never damaged or chipped any of my belongings. They are very well priced and it is money well spent knowing your belongings are in good hands!! I highly recommend them! (I won’t use anyone else!)

Hired Guidance Moving to move our business office to a new location. A team of 3 showed up and got right to work. They quickly disassembled our desks and wrapped them for transport. They were all very polite, hard working professionals. I often worry about such services when there is an hourly rate involved as people sometimes "milk the clock" but not these guys! They did not slow down until the job was finished. Everything was handled perfectly. The rate was great and the quality of work was exceptional. If you are looking for movers, look no further, these are your guys! I will hire them again in the future!

I hired TransMovers LLC to unload 3 PODS storage containers. Omar (owner) and his crew arrived early and got straight to work. They were all very polite and worked quickly. I had excellent communication with Omar before and after booking the job. I am extremely pleased with the service provided and would recommend TransMovers LLC to anyone for their moving needs.

Jayden's Moving Company did an exceptional job helping us move our of our townhouse. They were fast, courteous, and proffesional. By the end the truck was packed to the brim but they managed to squeeze every inch out of it to make everything fit. I would definitely use their moving services if I was ever back in Dallas.

My experience was amazing! I was very skeptical at first because I'd never heard of Derrick's moving services, but everything was more than perfect. He's very respectful, polite and super strong. He lifted all the things that my husband claimed were, "Impossible without assistance." He gave us his business card and I'll be a customer for life. He made our move a breeze. No hassle and he wasn't just after money. His prices were unbelievably low.

I recommend this company to the highest degree!! She’s multi-talented and very professional. She saved my life, after my moving/packing company fell through and I had to move the next day. I contacted her SUPER last minute and she was really eager to help me, and came that night and stayed until the job was done! And I mean like 9 or 10 that night!! She was quick to respond and punctual, and just such a nice, lovely person who brought such good energy into a stressful time. I have a back injury and had a lot of delicate, breakable, and sentimental things that needed special protection and are especially hard to pack for someone like me because you’re bending over and spending a lot of time on the objects. She showed up READY TO WORK! As soon as she walked in and I showed her the situation, and my OCD tendency about my precious belongings, she just went to town, organizing and wrapping up everything even more careful and secure than my OCD self would. She also was great with keeping me focused and coming up with ideas that simplified or made the work more efficient. I had two rooms to pack up and she worked so well, fast and with great professionalism, that I trusted her immediately- and I can’t even imagine what the situation would have been if I never hired her. Best of all- EVERY SINGLE THING arrived in perfect shape when we unpacked them. Once I get settled into my new home, I will definitely hire her again to help me arrange/organize my mind as well as my things! I’m a picky person and I recommend her x 1000!

I have used Secured Moving Company for 2 moves in the last 2 years. It’s extermelly easy to contact someone to get an appointment set up. They work around your schedule to find the best slot for you and your needs. Each time the staff arrived on time ( even a few minutes early ) with positive attitudes ready to work. They go above and beyond to make sure you as the client are comfortable before they head out to the next job. The pricing is so competive. I’ve been quoted double with other movers , and based on the customer services , value and great experience I will never move with anyone else and will recommend Secured to all my friends.

Without exaggeration, I can actually credit Nancy Peham with saving my life. A few years ago, when I was overwhelmed to the point of collapse while downsizing from an 8,000 square foot home to one half that size, my realtor benevolently sent Nancy Peham from Helping Hands to assist me with the mountainous undertaking. Obviously, I had no idea such a service even existed, and I was skeptical, having only worked with packers from a moving company before - an experience I only wished I could forget. It may sound illusory, but, from the moment Nancy arrived, an immediate feeling of relief swept over me and by the end of the first day, I knew what a Godsend had come my way. She was an energetic, highly productive self-starter, who took direction well. She was, punctual, efficient, well organized, courteous, and professional at all times. She proved to be a trustworthy person who was very respectful of my effects and privacy. Her presence during that move afforded me time to multi-task elsewhere while feeling confident that the impending move was progressing on schedule. For the next several months, Nancy was there rain or shine, working in a vital capacity almost every day, packing, unpacking, organizing closets and sometimes setting up entire rooms while generally aiding me in the coordination of my life in transition. That was nine years, five moves and a few household disasters ago . . . all of which were made immeasurably more proficient with Nancy’s instrumental help. Throughout our long history, I can say without reservation that Nancy has become invaluable to me in a million untold ways. She is currently helping me with the preliminaries of what may be a long distance move, in which case I will definitely rely on Nancy’s incomparable skills to promote the logistics of this endeavor - I have no qualms in saying outright that I would not trust anyone but Nancy to facilitate such a task. Lastly, it would not be a proper testimonial to her fine character without mentioning Nancy’s indisputably kind heart and persistent integrity, rare virtues which not only serve to solidify her ratification as a person, but, for me, personally exemplify someone who I have the distinct privilege to call my friend. Sincerely, S.L.R./ Frisco, TX

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
