Deck or Porch Remodel or Addition
Dion is a terrible contractor. He still owes me my deposit for my deck and now refused to answer my call, email or text. He failed in so many different aspects. First, he took my $2500 deposit and built the structure of the deck which is completely useless. That is the most basic 2x4 structure which does not even touch the ground, not to mention supporting the deck. Second, he has excuses after excuses. My backyard is only 10ft by 40ft. He delayed the construction for 2 and a half month with excuses about his subs, weather, family emergency, health problem, travel problem. In the end, he quitted without completing anywhere close to $2500 amount of work. I am extremely frustrated by this experience and hope no one will hire him.Nov 23, 2018VerifiedNew Life Construction Services's reply
Before anyone gives weight to this lady's review, please look at my other reviews to see that this review dies not represent New Life Construction. She has "conveniently" excluded a lot of information. 1) This former customer did not find me or hire me through Thumbtack. She created a profile on here for the sole purpose of trashing my companies reputation. 2) I gave her a huge discount on the job to begin with. 3) I do not owe her any money. The deposit she paid me was spent on the job. Anyone that knows about general contracting knows that the profit is in the final payment which I never got to. 3) The delay in the start of the project was due to the weather and her schedule. The actual start was delayed at least 4 times due to one or the other. I communicated with her throughout the entire process. After the start of the process, we ran into a delay due to a mix up in materials that were ordered at the lumber yard. 4)She has been told my another contractor that the framework of the deck is useless. A contractor who wants to charge more money to complete the job than I charged her initially. 5) What she conveniently leaves out of her complaint is the fact that there was a second component to the job. landscaping. My guts came in and cleaned up the yard, and completed a very nice landscaping project which included installing metal edging, laying gravel, planting 4 trees and installing landscaping lights. I guess she expects to get all of that for free. I regret that this project did not go as planned, and if I had it to do over again, I would not have accepted the job to begin with because she was not willing to pay what it was worth, but I occasionally accept jobs with very little profit to keep my guys working, to build my portfolio and hopefully to get a referral or two out of it. In the end, I did all I could to complete the project and she decided to terminate the contract. And as my contracts state, "if at anytime the client terminates the contract they have to pay for any and all work performed to that point". so she is not entitled to any kind of refund and I ended up losing money on this project because materials were purchased and workers and subcontractor still had to be paid. I hold no ill will toward her for terminating the contract because as any business owner can tell you, no matter how hard you try, you cant please everybody, but I do have a problem with her trying to trash my reputation and damage my business. At the end of the day, every other customer that has hired me through thumbtack or that I have been referred to, has been happy with my work and most of them have hired me multiple times. I will let that record speak for itself.
Dion did an excellent job for me. We had a shower installed for our Company over the road truck drivers and 3 new steel exit doors installed in the warehouse. Dion communicated the progress and roadblocks for a fast resolution and was very professional. The value of his services was fair and the work quality was good. I would definitely recommend Dion for any small projects you are needing.May 4, 2018Verified
