My wife and I decided to remodel both bathrooms in our house. They needed a fresh look and a complete update. Having seen the quality of work done by Tell Projects, I knew that I wanted them to do the work. I had Zach come by my house with his truck (the mobile showroom) and show my wife the many samples of flooring, tile, cabinets, and hardware. She was so impressed with Zach and the quality of his products that she agreed with me that Tell Projects was the company we wanted to do the work for us. Tell Projects gave us a 10-14 day estimate to finish the work. The workers were courteous and respectful of both our home and the three cats we have in the house. Like any remodeling project there were a couple of things that we added to the project. Both times Zach came by to inspect the issue and let us know how much the additional work would cost. They finished both rooms in 16 days due to the additional work we requested. The whole process was a very positive experience. None of the nightmare stories that you hear about remodeling. Both Zach and Ellie kept in constant contact with my wife and I. They answered our questions and made suggestions for every decision that had to be made from the tile, to the flooring, to the number of shower heads we needed. Each day the men worked quickly and cleaned up before leaving. I would recommend Tell Projects for any job you have from replacing a door to adding a room to your home. If I could use three words to describe this company they would be honest, respectful, and quality. Thank you Tell Projects and especially Zach and Ellie for two beautiful bathrooms!! Ken Robinson

Hugo did an excellent job with the carpentry work in my home. I initially hired him to hang some interior doors and was so impressed by both the quality of his work and his attention to detail that I hired him to build and stain three birch bathroom vanities. The vanities are beautiful and very well constructed. Drawers are effortless, doors swing smoothly, everything is exactly to spec, seams are invisible, and the pieces look like they were crafted in a custom shop. He used real wood rather than cheaper stain-grade plywood for the front face, doors and drawer faces which gave the pieces a much richer look for very little extra money. I've got him lined up to do some matching linen closets, mirror frames, and, if he has the time to build new ones for me, I'm going to take a sledge to my old kitchen cabinets. I recommend Hugo to anyone looking for very high quality work at a fair price.

Richard exceeded our expectations. He truly went above and beyond to ensure excellent quality services. We are first time home buyers and purchased a fixer upper. Richard painted, completely reconstructed one of our cabinets in the kitchen, and did some plumbing work for us. He was very pleasant to speak with and patient when answering questions. His price is unreal for what you actually get!

I didn't have the budget to get new countertops cut and installed, so I decided to reuse the Quartz countertops that were in place before Harvey. I purchased cabinets for my kitchen and began mounting them in myself. The sink cutout was not centered on the drain line but instead several inches to the left of the drain, which I mistakenly forgot to account for when ordering my base cabinets. The time came to get the countertops installed and after measuring the sink cutout, I realized the only way it would fit would be to extend the countertop several inches to the right, so that the sink base cabinet and countertop cutout were centered with the sink. My solution was to use the thin 2 inch wide strip that was attached to the wall behind the oven. I got in touch with Victor at Brandstell and he sent someone over to assess the situation. The young man came and measured and remeasured and realized the same problem I did regarding the sink cutout not being centered on the drain line. I shared my solution with him and he retook the measurements and decided it would work! Several days later the same young man (Marco) and another coworker arrived and got to work cleaning the dried adhesive off the old counters. They proceeded to do an extraordinary job of cutting the extension piece to appropriate size, even including the complicated bullnose. They glued everything down to the base cabinets and the end result was beautiful! I had received several quotes from other installers and the prices were significantly higher, not including the cutting and attaching of the extension piece. The price given to me by Brandstell was hundreds of dollars lower and their quality of work was excellent!

We found this handyman Tait from Houston Local Handyman and they responded right away, they were very friendly and told me everything they were doing. If I were to do anything different I would have had them take out the bathroom vanity and cabinets in laundry room. They were very nice to take out the items, as it turned out we had some black mold spots that they took care of right away. They came back every couple of days to check the process of drying, every employee was very nice. I would recommend this company.

Bob was very professional and provided a good estimate for a job that would take approximately two weeks. The job consisted of painting a custom made cabinet, and also installing all the drawer/cabinet pulls, as well as installing two panes of glass. This was all done in his workshop. The quality of the paint job was impressive, making the furniture look quite expensive. I wish I could include a photo of the finished cabinet in my review. I would definitely provide good recommendations for Bob's quality of craftsmanship and his good work ethic. I wish I could show a photo of it in my review.

This guy does amazing work for an unbelievable price. I needed a few of my bottom cabinets rebuilt. 1 guy showed up and handled every detail by himself. The only time he enlisted help was during installation of some of the larger cabinets. My wife gave him a gift card to show our appreciation. A1 job.

Pablo Garza did a fine job for me. It consisted of the installation of a replacement ceiling fan and the installation of a replacement ceiling light fixture. He also tested my three under-cabinet lights to determine if I had a problem with the three light fixtures or if my problem was with the light tubes. I will call him again for my next electrical job.

After hurricane Harvey I hired a contractor to repair my home from the damage the flood caused. The contractor was so inept and his workers literally destroyed my home. The drywall had holes and gaps in it. The electrical outlets were dislodged so badly that the covers couldn’t even go on them; they used a sprayer to paint the interior rooms and the paint got all over the crown molding and the ceiling and after I fired him I was left with no kitchen or bathrooms. Chris came in to initially put in a door for me and he ended up saving me and my family from having to endure several more months of living in a construction zone. He painted the kitchen cabinets(after the previous contractor said it couldn’t even be done) he installed all of my appliances, he did all of the trim and baseboards in the entire house, he hung all the light fixtures and ceiling fans, he hung wallpaper, he installed and painted all of the doors both interior and exterior, he painted the ceiling and installed vanities in the bathrooms he essentially completed my entire home and fixed everything the previous contractor messed up. He even installed cameras outside of my house and a new doorbell. He worked long hours right before Christmas so that we could have an operable kitchen to cook dinner in for the holiday then he came back early after Christmas to finish up everything before the new year came in. I am eternally grateful to Chris for his diligence and patience and perfectionism. He handle my home as if it was his own. I would highly recommend Chris and I now consider him as part of my family because of the compassion he exhibited while working to ensure my home was completed in a timely manner and with such excellence.

Over the years I have used many contractors but none come close to the Araz group. They initially came to remove crazy wallpaper from my ceiling. It was not a fun job. They did amazing work. Got it off and touched up and repainted my ceiling. As they were leaving they told me they could fix my horrible broken front door which 5 people had looked at and declined to fix telling me I needed an entire new one. Not only did they fix it. It lookes incredible. Instead of spending $1000+ for a new one I spent a fraction of that. I then had them do so many small jobs I needed. I needed some floor boards installed, knobs on cabinets, doors and trim painted, tile drilled into for wall gadgets, a sliding door that was too big installed where my washer and dryer are located. They did it all. They were punctual, neat and so Kind. I will use them again and again and again.

We had our entire kitchen redone after our home was destroyed by hurricane Harvey. After researching many cabinet makers, we went with Conroe Custom Cabinets. Bennie and his team were quick, efficient, and replaced/upgraded our kitchen and bathrooms at below what others had bid. We are totally pleased with his attention to detail and the absolutely gorgeous cabinets he made for our family home.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

  • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
  • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
  • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
  • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
