Introduction: Im born and raised in south London, England, DJ'd in London's popular clubs for 12 years, Graduated from South Thames College AND University of West London with a BTEC Music Production (2002) and BA Music Technology (2007). I run a small/medium recording studio in Houston specializing in rock, pop and hip hop. Ive been known to bring clarity to mixes and deliver a large console sound at a cost that is wallet friendly. Ive been exposed to the British style of mix production earlier in my career before moving to Houston and exploiting my eclectic musical taste and varied production technique. Delivering the sound the client crave at a price that they can afford...there is no greater buzz!

Working with Calvin was exactly what my band needed! We wrote three original songs which needed recording in a studio. He was encouraging as an individual and experienced as a technician. He was always prompt and so hardworking. During the recording session, he created a wonderful raw and balanced mix that sounded natural. He knows just how to balance instruments and vocals to create a smooth and live performance type track. As an individual, he has a charismatic personality that creates a great atmosphere for everyone to work with him. Everything went so smoothly that we could surprisingly record all our songs in one recording session. He was always on time. His work captured the emotion and the slight nuances that musicians add in their music. In the future, my band will undeniably go to Calvin Venus for recording more of our compositions.

When entrusting your music production to another, the probabilities of gaining a product that is what you're hoping for, much less "more" than you're hoping, is probably a small success margin. The possibilities of your vision being misunderstood or missed in the end game are a very real problem. It is a fine line to put a light on a vision or reflect an idea and capture that vision without changing the vision to something not originally intended. Calvin Venus & Tonecrafters are gifted in taking a vision or idea that is already complete or well developed and polishing it into a heightened musical presentation. Their ability to add color and texture to a music production that enhances the dimensionality of a listening experience and not move it into an entirely new event, is a rare gift. From day one, my relationship with Calvin and Tonecrafters grew from great to life long family. After spending a year working on this debut album, we have created something that CCM hasn't seen since the likes of Rich Mullins. Creating something new and fresh, yet timeless and universal ... the world will soon learn more about this talented studio master of production.

Calvin Venus has to be one of the most humble and committed brothers I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Seriously. This is a man who is committed to excellence but also committed to being a servant to the people around him. He has taken charge is leading the audio team for the largest poetry event that happens in Houston, which is the Canvas. I've always been satisfied with the work that he has done and won't hesitate to bring him back for each event.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First i listen to your ideas, your previous work, rehearsals and even live shows. Then you submit music you like so I can achieve the project of your desires. Reference tracks are essential.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Ive studied at both South Thames College and University of West London, England. But the years recording, mixing and mastering surpasses all eduction.
