Shawna is incredible. I had a sudden personal injury that left me incapable of properly caring for my 14 year old lab with hip dysplasia. I had to transport both he and my 11 year old lab to board at my vet and Shawna did not hesitate to help and immediately put me at ease. She was very caring and professional during a difficult time. She has since been transporting my 11 year old lab to water therapy as well as pet sitting for him and our cat. She is always on time and responsive to texts. She provides easy pay options with Venmo, emails at each interaction and detailed follow up reports. I'm very happy with her service and feel lucky to have found her. I couldn't more highly recommend her.

Tammi does a great job with our pups. I love her holistic approach and overall concern for their health as well. It's also a great service that she comes to our home, which is less stress on the animals.

If I could give 10 stars, our family would! Our first experience with Tami has been amazing. We will definitely be asking her to care for our senior pitt terrier again. Our fur baby has had some medical issues lately and when we left out of town for about ten days she was still sickly and underweight, needing alot of TLC. Tami/Paws n Claws has been supportive and caring even before we dropped her off, checking on our dog via text and offering very helpful and accurate advice that was instrumental in helping us nurse her to health with the vet. We opted to leave our dog at Tami's home instead of ours for the time needed, due to our dog's state of being. This was a wonderful option and just what we needed! Her home is located in a nice neighborhood with a beautiful yard and very well behaved fur babies of her own that live there. Whenever we went to her home for visit/drop off/pick up it was always easy to communicate with her and change times if needed for my convenience. Her home is always very clean and nice smelling each time I've been and very comfortable for my dog. My dog was spoiled and pampered and we received texts and pictures and updates every day. She had no problem giving our dog her meds and special diet. She treated our dog like her own family. Tami is very knowledgable, talented, and passionate in what she does and we are so blessed to have found her. I would recommend her to anyone. When we picked up our dog she was very happy and comfortable and relaxed at Tami's house and she looked great and super healthy. If you are someone who has a family pet, and looking for quality care for them when you can't be there...you don't want anyone else but Tami, Paws and Claws! Thanks Tami!

I have a diabetic dog. Usually only vets understand how important it is to administer the insulin twelve hours apart, but these guys have been nothing short of an absolute blessing. I work 12hr shifts at my job and sometimes I cannot get home in time for Sam's medication they are always there to help. My other dog, Thor is a love bug and I can tell he really enjoys having his dog walker come over.

So glad we found Amy to walk our new puppy during the day. She is reliable and trustworthy. Being a first time dog owner she is a godsend. She has worked with our puppy on house training, basic commands, referred a good vet service for immunization, and the list goes on. Not to mention our pup LOVES her!

I highly recommend Adreia for your pet and house sitting needs. She recently stayed in our home can cared for our 2 Cat Boys. We set up a meet and greet so she could meet our Boys and we could show her around the house. One of our cats needs to be dry pilled daily and some times had anxiety issues. It was a bonus that Adreia is a Vet Tech and understood his medications! During her stay she sent us photo updates daily. I returned home to a neat and tidy home and two happy cats!

Nicole has alot of experience, since she previously worked as a vet technician. She was very friendly and compassionate with my kitty. She was also very flexible when i had to change the days of my visits at the last minute. She responds to text promptly, and is very thorough in her care of my kitty. I would definitely hire her again and also recommend her services to anyone needing a great pet sitter!

Molly has been helping our family with our dogs for 5 years She is not only reliable but we know our dogs are happy in her loving and caring hands when we are gone. Recently one of our dogs had a medical issue when Molly was caring for them and we were very confident and grateful in her ability to work with our vet to take care of the problem. Molly really went the extra mile for our precious furry family members!

When I took my puppy to Kryssi for the first time, she was so gentle with her. I was very impressed that she (Kryssi) had the experience from working with a vet for several years. Her attitude with me as well as my dog was exceptional. I would not go anywhere else now that I have found K-9 Kuts by Kryssi. Thank you for being such a wonderful groomer.

Kay has been my pet sitter for many years. She is wonderful with animals, and I have cats and dogs. The thing I like best is her prior experience as a vet assistant . During a trip I was on, an emergency related to my pet's health came up and she was able to deal with it and by the time I arrived home, my pet had been taken to the vet and treated.

I adopted my pit/staffie without knowing her full story...but soon found out that her timidness and reactiveness were WAY more than I could handle. I was referred to Beth by the vet, it was the best decision I ever made with regards to my dog! I gained a level of patience and understanding I never could have on my own. Beth didn't help train Izzie, she helped train me to deal with her using positive rewards and confidence in my abilities. Her one-on-one and class-training helped Izz and I become best friends forever and I will always be grateful! I call on Beth whenever I need help or a reference. I trust her so much because she KNOWS my dog so well. She is a great trainer of humans with dogs! =)

Yolanda has been our pet sitter for over 3 years. She has taken care of our old, sick dog as well as our puppies and they all get very special attention. She takes them on long walks, and makes sure each one is safe and happy before she leaves. She hand fed our sick dog and took him to the vet on several occasions when we couldn't. She always leaves great notes about her visits and texts us updates when we're out of town. She has an unbelievable connection with all animals (she cares for our birds, too). I would totally trust her and recommend her for any personal errands or projects. We have used pet sitters for over 20 years and she is by far the best!

4 years ago we became parents (for the first time to a beautiful little beagle, Mia) and were so scared to leave her with just anyone. We tried the kennel route through a Vet and paid for "extra" play time!! I then met Ericka and Mia just loved her and all her other pets. Since then we take two trips each year and Mia loves playing, running, and spending time with Ericka. I have not used anyone since! I receive text and email updates with pictures and see how happy my Mia is. We now have added to our family another beauty, Brie the weimaraner and are scheduled to go away for a weekend. I know Brie will come home so happy but like Mia, will miss Ericka :) The peace of mind I have with Ericka is PRICELESS!!

I was out of town for a week, and one of my elderly cats was struggling with kidney failure. Each day Tami sent me a picture of her, and she also took her to the vet mid week to get fluids. The comfort I felt from this first class service for me and my pets was just incredible! Metro-PetServices is the best by far!

Paws SAVED THE DAY when I had to leave out of town unexpectedly. I spoke directly with the owner, April, and she personally booked my dog sitting service for me. Not only did she email me all of the paperwork, including policies and procedures, she made sure to send a copy of everything with the sitter for our "meet and greet". Meeting the sitter before hand to introduce him to my 3 crazy pups made me feel extremely safe to leave them in his care. We went over every detail about their eating habits, walking habits, vet Info...etc. I was also able to pay by credit card which made this even less painful. When I jumped on the plane that next morning I knew the pups were in perfect hands. And to round out my experience with Paws, when I returned home there were 3 happy babies along with a hand written note from the sitter about all the fun they had. Thank you Paws for saving the day!

Makenzie has always taken very good care of our Rufus. He's extremely nervous with new people, but he warmed up to her pretty quickly. I believe dogs are able to sense friendly dog people, and Makenzie is one of them. She's concerned about holistic pet health, so no table scraps or overfeeding will occur with your pet. She's got a keen awareness of what is good and bad for a pet to consume. I rest easy knowing Rufus is being taken care of by Makenzie!

Chris was fantastic when pet sitting my dog. My dog loves to see Chris and brings him a toy when he comes to walk or sit with him. I trust the well-being of my pet with Chris because of his vast experience in the vet community.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

          • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
          • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
          • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
          • What are your different walk routes?
          • When will you pick up and drop off?
          • How will we communicate?
          • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
          • What’s your cancellation policy?
          • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
          • How and how often do I pay you?
          • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

          What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

          What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

          • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
          • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
          • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
          • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
          • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
          • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
