Shawna has pet sit my 3 year old female cat for the past 2 months with the most recent visits for Thanksgiving. My cat loves to play but is a dominant female and needs specific handling. When I returned home after 3 days away she was very happy and energetic. I knew she had fun while I was away and had not missed special attention. I was pleased. I look forward to working more with Shawna.

Due to the advanced age of my 16 year old ShihTzu and her severe case of separation anxiety, coupled with my time restrictions, I decided to use a mobile grooming service for "Hannah's" long overdue needs. I had the good fortune to find "Tammi" who "went out of her way" to accommodate our schedule and the service she provided us was excellent."Tammi" is exceptionally compassionate, conscientious and professional and I would "go out of my way" to recommend her to anyone seeking a superior, highly qualified pet groomer.

Angela, my dog walker is alwas on time, prompt and full of cheer. She takes time to pet our dog during the walks and it has paid off. My dog loves her and she is pickey who she likes. I am grateful to Angela and Pet Society for good service.

Deciding to board and train both our pups with Maury and WeTrainDogs was hands-down one of the most impactful, rewarding experiences and truly a lucrative investment towards the well-being of my Family that continues to pay dividends in real ways that affect our daily lives. Being able to have guests over as well as the ability to go on a walks without leash-pulling were both major obstacles for my Family that in only 2-3 sessions time (plus practice) were virtually eliminated off the ever growing list of stuff we always seemed to stress out over. The latter of the two (leash pulling) was a big deal for me as I had a traumatic leg injury last year skiing that made walking both of our dogs on the leash very stressful and kind of dangerous for my recovery with the amount of leash pulling that would always last the entire 10-15 minutes spent walking. Nowadays, I can walk both of my high energy dogs together, with distractions, sans pulling; no problem. Maury was very quick to respond to my original bid request. After a couple of phone conversations and an in-person consultation, we decided to enroll both of our dogs (a 1 year old German Shepherd and a 1.5 year old Golden/Austrialian Shepherd mix) into WeTrainDogs’ 2 week Board and Train program as we knew they would be engaged and given more attention over your standard mass pet hotel options where pets are presumably ignored (b/c of sheer quantity) and/or anxious (with multiple handlers, sheer quantity & proximity of other pets). WeTrainDogs alleviated these concerns as they only take in a couple of other dogs at any given time and provided an environment that dogs are used to; a home. Maury updated us while overseas with photos of our pups and it really felt great to know they were doing so good during the 2 weeks we were having a blast overseas. The training though, in my opinion, is really what set this experience far above and beyond expectations. We've been through classroom type training with both of our pups early on but none of the lessons ever seemed to stick except for the most basic commands; sit and lay down. I didn't realize just how far personalized attention and training geared towards your individual dog(s) can go in progressing their training and development towards canine good citizens. Though we're near the end of our sessions that came along with our original Board and Train package, we plan on maintaining their progress through follow-up sessions with Maury, along with boarding them for lengthy vacations, long into the future. Thanks WeTrainDogs!

Quit looking for a Pet sitter, you just found the right one for you & your pet Absolutely phenomenal! Tami is a completely different game changer when it com s down to "pet sitting" . You can feel the love radiate from your pet with Tami's presence. As most of us pet owners know... that speaks volumes , especially with cats. It gets better.... This is how AMAZING Tami is.... This is how the story goes... 👊🏻 I had read Tami's reviews and drove over to meet her last year.... lovely lovely person. Tami is very warm and somebody "I knew" I could trust with my pet.... Shortly after I was stuck in a foreign country and found out "my pet sitter" was refusing to give my cat his daily insulin injections. CAN YOU IMAGINE!!! I wanted to jump on the next airplane. ✈️ Instead I did the smartest thing .... I text Tami, explaining the situation that evening, Within 20 minutes Tami had picked up my Cat , she took his insulin & insulin injections , his prescription food , Tami took everything she felt was important to mittens. It was almost like Tami flew in like an eagle 🦅 and took control of a situation that could easily have become a pet owners worst nightmare ... Tami understands the importance of insulin injections, she becomes mom instantly , Tami has no problem calling the vet to confirm Medicine requirements / insulin injection requirement. Special diet needs , etc . to your pet Tami goes as far as familiarizing herself with your pets quirks, I received daily pictures of mittens making himself at home 🏡 Talk about keeping my soul 😊.. seeing pictures of mittens , happy. If you are a Pet Lover ... this is the sitter you are looking for ... seriously My cat mittens is an 8 year old white polydactyl , he is on daily insulin injections , he is on a special diet and Tami saved both my cat & I from a very terrible distressful situation that could of been deadly to my cat. I Highly recommend Tami Kind regards , Mary Wolf

It is easy to see why Gail's service received a "Best of Thumbtack 2015" award. She responded to our inquiry on Christmas Day (wow!) and agreed to take over our challenging furry family. Just a day later, she came to our home, met the kiddos and took lots of notes. Since we were leaving the country, it was tricky for Gail to get in touch with us. Instead, she left a detailed journal (8 pages in all!!) of what she did with the babies while we were gone. She contended with kitty pee and other awesome pet yuckies and even mopped and wiped everything down for us. She did tricks and long walks and jogs with our pooch and even left funny little observations and insights into our animals. I just loved having her help and hope that you are able to enjoy her services as well. Goes ABOVE and BEYOND. -Jillian & Duilio

I highly recommend Adreia for your pet and house sitting needs. She recently stayed in our home can cared for our 2 Cat Boys. We set up a meet and greet so she could meet our Boys and we could show her around the house. One of our cats needs to be dry pilled daily and some times had anxiety issues. It was a bonus that Adreia is a Vet Tech and understood his medications! During her stay she sent us photo updates daily. I returned home to a neat and tidy home and two happy cats!

We were worried to leave our pet cat Row Row alone at home while we visited our families over the holidays. Row Row is a senior cat who does have some health issues. Nicoles’ professionalism, flexibility, and experience put our worries to rest. We’ll consider her first the next time we leave town.

I hired Comfort Crew Pet Sitters to care for our 12-year old kitty, Lily, as we'll be traveling extensively every month throughout the summer. Daniel was wonderful with Lily, and even texted me pictures of her and sent me daily pet care journal entries after he visited. Daniel also took care of our trash, recycling, mail, & packages in addition to caring for Lily--food, water, medication & litterbox duties. Their prices are competitive, they are licensed, bonded & insured, and I love their database system which allows clients to schedule services and pay for the services via PayPal. I couldn't be happier with the care Lily has received from Comfort Crew Pet Sitters, and I HIGHLY recommend the company to anyone who needs a professional pet sitter.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
