David and his worker Juan provided exceptional work in the demolition and installation of new wood-look ceramic tile flooring and porcelain flooring. David was prompt, thorough and flexible. His worker Juan provided great work with high attention to detail. In terms of criticism, demolition was dirty and the job took a little longer than anticipated, but at little to no fault of the contractor. I would recommend for similar work in the future.

Diamond in the rough as far as contractors go! If you need it done, this couple is the one to do it! They're the only company that gave me an estimate and constantly checked up with me and in the end, they stuck to the price estimated even though I asked for a few more things in addition to what was originally quoted. I know the job was more of a pain than they took into account before checking out what needed to be done but the price never changed. This is a true, genuine, honest, (pretty awesome if I must say myself) couple that work together to make their customers happy! I inquired about a few doors and ended up with 4 beautiful doors with new knobs, a hung mirror and a fixed chair and I couldn't be happier! We also found out we know some of the same people!! So glad we found them! Thanks Maury and Melissa!!

Living outside of the US and owning a property has proved to be a headache. It's the services of businesses like JDog junk removal and hauling that help alleviate the anxiety and stress of not being able to be on site. I had several sheds that needed to be removed from my property urgently. JDog provided the most competitive quotes, committed to doing the entire work in a prompt fashion, communicated fantastically well via email and kept me up to date on the progress of the work. Very professional outfit, did a great job within a short time frame, kept me well informed and met all expectations. Would definitely utilise their services again if required and undoubtedly would recommend them to anyone that needs junk removal/hauling or demolition work done. FIVE STARS!

We recently used TUR Demolition & Construction for a back porch addition. We've never been happier with a service, and plan to use them for all our future home remodeling. It's a BBB Insured small family business. And within their family there doesn't seem to be anything they can't do. They did plumbing work, electrician work, custom cabinets, roofing, concrete. From the beginning stages, the communication was great and they were very flexible with me as we imagined what this porch would look like. They ended up delivering an even better product than I had imagined. The project was painless, they were consistent with their time every day and stayed and worked until they were in a good place for the next day. At the end of each day, they tidied up their tools and set them aside to keep the backyard clean. It was so nice working with the same people throughout the process. We've had work done in the past where the GC comes in, negotiates a contact, sends different crews day to day and checks in here and there. With this company you are working with the GC everyday. He's doing the work, alongside his team. I can't say enough about their quality work. You'll just have to give them a call and see for yourself :)

We are very pleased with the look of our bathroom. Felipe was easy to work with and did his best to make sure we got the design we wanted. We received quotes from several contractor between $8,500 to $43,000. Felipe quote was not the lowest but in the range we thought was reasonable for our size bathroom. Our project had several set backs which were no ones fault: The tub filler we selected had a design flaw, which required some redesign. The sink drains didn't work the way we hoped and had to order replacements. The tub showed up with a crack and we had to order a replacement. Felipe worked with us through each issue and did his best to guide us to a solution. One of the great things about working with Filipe was the fact he knows some very good subcontractors. The company he recommended to do the show glass, did a great job at half the cost other companies quoted for the same work. Plus we got a lifetime warranty on the glass and workmanship. With every project there's always the 90/10 rule. 90% of the work is straight forward and fairly easy to complete. The rest of the work is more tedious and requires time. There were a couple of areas I thought the work could have been better: The pony wall tile was not cut straight and left ragged grout edges (picture). The retexturing could have been better if not rushed (picture). The caulking around the tub, particularly behind the tub was very poorly done. For the price, I really don't have anything to complain about. This was our first project hiring a contractor to do a project. We learned some important lessons. 1) Create a check list of work items. This will help make sure there are no disagreements on what is and isn't part of the contract. 2) Inspect the work regularly. It's only your fault if the works not done correctly. 3) Don't pay until the work is done to your satisfaction. 4) Get everything in writing including the warranty. I can't say enough how happy we are with the new bathroom. I have other property in Austin and I will use Felipe for future projects.

I needed someone to come and cut some tile, apply thin set and install the tile. I also needed them to grout a whole room ( breakfast area) and also grout some thresholds located throughout the house. These two men, Mike and Damian came all the way from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, and got here early. They assessed the work that needed to be done, went and purchased some grout and other supplies, and they were back to my house in no time. They worked diligently and finished this project in one day like they said they would. Their work is quality also. I was totally impressed by them. They were also very respectful, and explained well. I have never had any construction worker actually show up on time for one of my jobs, but they sure did. They did not stop working until everything was finished. Their prices are very reasonable, especially since they travel all the way down here from San Antonio to Corpus Christi. These two men worked harder and better than any of the contractors I have employed right here in my own town. Their work is Quality, and I really believe they could give a lot of contractors or handymen a run for their money. They're already way ahead ! When all was finished, they promised to pick up a lot trash and left over tile that was just basically dumped there by the prior person. They stuck by that also, and they cleaned up as much as they could, because not all could fit in their truck, and I said that was fine, and I could probably take care of the rest. Mike and Damian are two very AWESOME men and their work is AWESOME, and they keep their promise and word about what they say they are going to do. I never thought I would say this, but I actually had a good time watching some of what they were doing, and I can say this was a totally AMAZING day !

Fantastic - best contractor we have ever hired. Mike (Owner) provided a detailed line item quote and was the lowest quote among six other contractors. He communicated with us from start to finish. Work exceeded all expectations. Asked for new quote on another project. His crew finished the job in four days as promised and were very professional, friendly and went beyond the scope of the project. My wife and I are amazed how well the pool demo went, the sodding of the backyard and front and the clean up upon completion. There needs to be more contractors like Agnew Contruction Co. They can gladly use us as a reference for potential customers. Many "Thumbs Up".

Kelly Cobb is a great handyman / painter / remodel person. I hired him for a small job and kept him on to basically remodel the house and another investment property. Some jobs he did were: removal of popcorn ceiling, re texturing walls and paint after electrical work cut holes in drywall, bathroom tile - floor and tub, installing bathroom vanity, landscaping, kitchen remodel, exterior & interior paint on outside house etc. I would definitely recommend Kelly as he is a hard worker and can complete just about anything. I attached some pictures of just the kitchen remodel. I described some crazy things I wanted done such as the live edge bar and his idea for the stainless steel back splash, which he had the contacts for the custom slab (he sanded it, sealed and treated slab) and steel work. He also has other contacts if needed. Trustworthy, nice, fair prices and conscientious! If I ever need additional work or do a flip I am excited I know a contractor. When the job got really big I did use his recommended helpers. He also got along with the neighbors and some subsequently hired him after my job. Thanks Kelly!

On time for initial meeting, gave a fair proposal. Hired them. I was a little nervous because I am wary of contractors I have not dealt with in the past . Not any more with these guys. No other way to say it . They showed up on time, finished ahead of scheduled and workmanship was excellent. Had them do some more work while they were here after I saw the effort to ensure my satisfaction. 3 "Atta Boys" to the team for a job well done.

Ben has done a tremendous amount of work for our house. He has built an amazing Murphy bed from scratch. He constructed multuple built in bookshelves. He took a small space in the laundry room and built a bench with storage. He is creative, talented, does all the research, and works within a budget. He works well with contractors and can manage complex projects from start to finish. Ben has been a real asset for our home.

Amazing.....simply amazing work, communication and professionalism. I had a "laundry list" of things I needed to be completed after our remodel, and Mitch was quick to respond, prompt, professional and personable. As a homeowner, I couldn't ask for more. He is organized, well equipped for the job, and prides himself in his work. WOW! so difficult to find in today's Austin market. I will ABSOLUTELY be asking for his help again (probably next week) with a few more things. Don't hesitate, or waste your time waiting for call backs from other contractors, Mitch is the one you need to hire.

I did not have to pay a fortune because their prices are reasonable. My house looks great! I would recommend Paint Pros Remodeling to everyone. I hire Mr. CISCO to level the platform that my AC was sitting on he finished it in one day. This is some thing I had been asking my contractor that build my house 3 years ago to fix the AC platform with tilting forward and he did an awesome job. I also hired him to fix a leak on my carport an to fix a door on my deck. The gentleman is an awesome worker and does a great job on the project you ask him to do.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

      What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

      • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
      • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
      • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
      • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.

Be sure to check out our smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
