Service provided was moving furniture. The experience was excellent. Darrell and Anthony were phenomenal! They were both very professional and efficient. Also, fun to work with! They loaded up our furniture and moved it all in 3 hours which is way faster than we could have done it! Thank you SO much for the great experience.

This was not my first time hiring movers, but this was my first time with castle movers. I want to give a fair and balanced review of the service. Pros: Overall move went great! They were very courteous, and professional. They provided options for wrapping furniture and were genuinely trying to make the move go smoothly as possible. Above and beyond care for my items. Very detailed in packing options. The crew worked hard in what had to be one of the hottest days so far this year. Even with the heat and heavy lifting they didn't cut corners, and packed and secured everything in the truck properly. They inspected all furniture before loading and notified me of any existing blemish before moving. Customer service from the crew was easily the best I've recieved. Truck had tons of space. Cons: Although small, they make a difference. Make sure all of your trucks have a tool box. Luckily my tools were readily available. This was just a minor issue. For a three man crew please send 3 healthy crew members. I had two healthy guys and one on restrictive duty due to an injury. Luckily we had plenty of smaller items and boxes to keep him more than busy so I don't believe it caused the move to last any longer than normal, but I'm sure the other two could have used a break from the heavy lifting. Punctuality: scheduled for 10 arrived at 11:30. In my experience this is common among moving companies and was to be expected, and full disclosure they did call to inform me they were running behind. At the end of the day the question is would I hire castle movers again or recommend them to a friend? Absolutely! The pros definitely outweight the cons. Outstanding move! Tough to find this level of service for the low price they offer. Thank You castle movers for a successful move!

Easy process to set up. The two bellhops contacted me before and showed up on time. My only complaints are that it is a little bit pricey. $120 for 10-15 min of work moving two couches from downstairs to upstairs seems too much. And then when they moved the couch upstairs they put a hole through my wall....which was the primary reason I wanted to hire professionals instead of doing it myself.

You can’t get any better than this. I gave these guys quite the hard move with some of my huge items and the terribly tight staircases in my building. They treated me better than family, were professional, and most of all they were bafflingly efficient. I would never have dreamed to have my entire apartment moved so quickly. There was no damage to any of my items, and they took the time to take apart and put all of my items back together. When I first moved to this apartment it took me and five people over 8 hours to get things inside, when These guys moved me they had all of my things in their trailer only half way through the two hour minimum. I was shocked by their hard work, oh and did I mention it was pouring rain and they took the time to keep all of my things bone dry. For the type of service I got today I would expecting to spend at least $500 but no not even close to that. I would recommend them for small moves and large, this is A++ grade service. Thank you guys so much, all see you in a year or two!

I can't thank the men of Universal Movers LLC enough. My contact was with Charlie - the owner. I had scheduled a 2 pm Saturday move for my daughter from one third floor apartment to another third floor apartment. I started getting concerned when the movers did not arrive on time but I received a call within thirty minutes letting me know they were running late. What I didn't know was they were on a supposed one bedroom only move that turned into a full five bedroom move. After I called to check progress with the office, I heard a knock on my door. The owner, Charlie had come out to help prep for his crew of Brian & Jimmy before they arrived. I don't know how they did it!! From having just moved a full 5 bedrooms of furniture to my third floor to third floor one bedroom apartment move. The outside temp hit 100 for the first time this year. Lesser men would have passed out and ER would have to have been called. Not only did they get everything (plus a few things) moved, they did it all within the quoted time frame. Now the last item in my review. Their pricing is by FAR the best by anyone in the DFW market. Again Charlie is a man of integrity and is as good as his word. You can't go wrong with Universal Movers LLC, but if you choose anyone else for your move you must have a lot more money than sense.

My goal was to move furniture from one storage facility to another residential location. Oasis showed up on time and picked up the furniture promptly. They did not however move the furniture to the exact spot I wanted as it didn't fit through the door. They don't disassemble anything and kept saying they had to leave so I didn't get one key furniture in its spot. They should have told me they don't disassemble anything up front, as other moving companies have offered that without me asking. I had filled out thumbtack stating I needed things moved upstairs and when I asked to move something upstairs to oasis they said that wasn't on the invoice. I never got an invoice so I didn't know what they were taking about, and I would not have gone with them if I knew they didn't want to move things upstairs. They reluctantly moved the furniture upstairs after I prompted them to. I tried to get them to wait as I would disassemble the furniture and then they would move it, as it would have only taken around twenty minutes to disassemble. They would have gotten paid more if they waited but they said they needed to leave so now I'm stuck with heavy furniture in a location I can't move. My advice to consumers who choose oasis: push for the invoice and be clear on what you want done in your chat and make sure the company and you sign off on some sort of documentation. Oasis also tried to charge me a service fee for gas, and I specifically asked them up front if they had service fees (which they said no). I went with them because they had good reviews and didn't have any hidden fees (or so I thought). All in all I'm not the happiest consumer right now.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
