Alfonso is an amazing tutor and really helps break down the material. I went through a lot of tutors that didn't explain things very well but then I found him and I've done really well in my math class.

Honestly have nothing but positive things to say about Mr.Burke! Can safely say that the reason why I scored higher on my SAT test was because in the 2/3weeks he did tutor me he made it his mission to see me succeed and meet my goals! He went out of his way to meet with me to see me succeed, he tutored me on weekdays for hours and even drove to a place that was closer to my house just so I could get the help that I needed more than once! Mr.Burke isn't the type of person to help you just because it's his job. Mr. Burke is the person that will help you because he believes in you as a person and knows you are capable of achieving many things in life. Mr.Burke has made it his mission to help anyone who needs help in school, to see them succeed and he will go the extra mile just to see you succeed and surpass your set goals

My daughter always seemed to have panic attacks leading up to tests. I was desperate to find a way for her to be comfortable especially as SATs were coming up. All I can say is after a few weeks with the tutors and life coaches at Chelsea International Education, my daughter’s confidence level went up a lot. She was not only prepared to take her SATs but her core academic skills have improved tremendously, which has helped her with her AP exams. The fact that all of the Chelsea tutors are fully qualified teachers, I think makes a major difference and really sets them apart. It really is a quality service and I am very happy to recommend them to anyone.

I took maths, geometry, physics and chemistry lessons from Tutor Ozer 5 years during secondary and high schools. He discovered the topics I didn’t understand well and went on at them. Thanks to him I got into the high school I wanted and also into the university I aimed at.

Erica was an amazing and very understanding tutor for my child. She worked very hard with her for about a year and a half and helped bring her up to grade level and beyond. My child went from having very low math scores to now having high Bs and even As sometimes. We couldn't have done it without her!

About

I do not have any business. I am an individual looking to tutor people who are willing to learn Spanish or work on improving their oral skills.

About

I have over 20 years of experience in teaching mathematics and statistics to students of all levels, including university. My experience really shows in the way I tutor my students as I have seen and mastered almost all types of problems and scenarios. I believe that my role as an educator is not only to inform but also to train students to think both independently and collaboratively and take the knowledge they gain in the classroom and apply it in their lives. I envision my classroom to be one where students actively participate in the learning process with lessons involving interactions not only with their teacher but also with each other. To train the next generation of mathematicians and statisticians, I believe that students must be taught to ask questions and properly employ the logical method to answer them. The engineers, technocrats, social scientists, philosophers and economists of tomorrow must also work in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments to solve real-world problems. Furthermore, priming students for any discipline requires knowing the basic concepts thoroughly with a strong emphasis on technical writing and presentation skills. I believe all of these principles must be employed to prepare the next generation of scientists for their personal careers and for their contributions to the world.

About

I taught in school for 5 years and taught Mathematics 1 as well as Mathematics 2 to undergraduates. I got 165/170 in GRE maths. Tutoring has always been my dream, and I am quite happy in achieving that. From my experience, I have seen that tutoring needs patience and the ability to understand the thoughts of students while solving problems. I was awarded first prize in a national-level maths innovation competition.

About

I provide private academic tutoring. I handle chemistry (general, organic, physical and inorganic ) and all math through differential equations. I have 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring privately.

About

I am a Texas certified teacher (EC-4) offering private tutoring services for elementary age students in grades PK-5 in the Richmond, Rosenberg and Sugar Land areas. My area of expertise is helping elementary students who are experiencing difficulty, or who need extra support in reading, writing, language or math. With parental consent, I am willing to contact your child's teacher to discuss specific skills that need to be targeted, and to address areas of concern, so that I can assist in setting goals to meet his/her particular needs. Tutoring services that I provide are: * Tutoring for elementary age (PK-5) students in reading, writing, language (grammar and spelling) and math * Homework and project assistance * TAKS and other state tests preparation * Study and organizational skills and habits Why I tutor: I am an encouraging, well-organized and energetic teacher who is passionate about each child's education and success. Along with teaching, I have been tutoring students for more than 6 years now, and have seen significant progress in each child's academic success, as well as in their confidence in themselves. My favorite part about tutoring children is the opportunity to provide them with one-on-one instruction that they oftentimes do not receive in the classroom, and over a period of time, having the privilege to witness their academic growths in all subjects. I also differentiate my instruction to meet each child's individual needs and unique learning styles. Here are my tutoring goals: My goal through private tutoring is to see each child excel and be successful in the classroom and beyond. In order to do that, I strive to: * provide them with valuable instruction in a fun, caring and positive learning environment * supply them with encouraging affirmations, so they can gain self-confidence and belief in themselves * equip them with helpful organizational skills, tips and techniques, to advance their learnings and increase their successes in school * challenge them to build skills, habits and attitudes which they need to succeed in school * motivate them to take a personal responsibility towards their learning, and to aim for higher achievement * prepare them for a solid academic foundation and a lifetime of success by helping them reach their full potentials * encourage them to have a positive attitude towards their education, and always strive to do their best

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
