  • Creative Guitar Tuition

    (26 reviews)

I have been in this business in both the professional and private 'arena' for c. 45 years. I often find myself happily and successfully teaching other professional guitarists. I also welcome beginners and 'intermediate' level musicians. I take a personal, encouraging and friendly interest with all of my clients, regardless of age, gender, where they may come from or how fast they may progress. I am quite prepared to happily go over the same information as many times as a client may require; to 'couch' the information in as many ways as may be necessary for the particular person. Even if I do say so myself, I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. I have taught many persons of different 'types' and 'outlooks' about life in general ... I love it all!, and I JUST LOVE WHAT I DO! In a word: TEACHING. I know that I am contributing something of GREAT VALUE to persons, and society in general. I.e., Helping, guiding, mentoring people to discover, as I and many others already have, the wonders and varieties of Communication(s) through music, or "Musical Communication(s)". I like to answer the questions of the curious learner, to help with their motivation, and to 'break things down' into achievable and understandable 'steps' when things may get difficult!, ... and at times, they do! To spend some extra time, effort and polite encouragement at perhaps difficult times. To appreciate in others, just how I also had to sometimes 'struggle' to learn! :-) I usually just get-along really well (friendly) with my students, but when the work is on: its "full steam ahead"! I also like to know how a person has eventually 'turned out', perhaps even years after leaving formal lessons. I have had quite a few wonderful, encouraging and happy surprises!

  • Play Guitar Now

    (22 reviews)

I take the time to find out what each individual student desires to play, and will find the material that will get them going in the right direction. I have a true passion for guitar playing and watching an individual grow in their ability to express themselves with their music. You'll learn about music theory applied to the guitar in an understandable, simplistic way. You'll know what it means to be playing in a 'Key", what notes to include, and which notes to avoid. Simple graphs in my book will have you playing chord progressions, and effective leads quickly. Helping students become more confident playing guitar, performing their favorite songs, and watching them grow as a knowledgeable player.

  • Tommy Katona guitar lessons

    (9 reviews)

I am specialized in Blues, especially the Stevie Ray Vaughan type of playing which I have been working on in my whole life. I am very detail oriented if it comes to Stevie and will teach my students every little nuances about his playing style. The best part is that I really enjoy what I do. It's always fun and I'm always happy to see when people enjoy the music when I play. Also very important to me to share my knowledge with others, especially the younger generation. They have to know what real music is.

  • Classical Guitar Studio

    (1 reviews)

Learn to play the classical guitar with fun. I have over 16 years of experience in classical guitar, and general musicianship instruction. I offer the following: • beginner to advanced levels • all ages welcome • traditional or classical and Suzuki method • group lessons • trial lesson or initial analysis available free of charge • CD recording available for advanced students I believe that the first thing a student needs to learn to become a good musician, is to learn how to play their instrument properly. Many instructors insist on teaching students songs, without ensuring that the proper technique is achieved; this methodology can have serious repercussions later on, as bad habits are learned, and are very difficult to unlearn. My approach may take longer, but will result in a stronger foundation from which to build on. Within six months, students taught using my methods, will play music far more competently. Another important philosophy incorporated in my teaching method, is the belief that students learn better if they enjoy what they are learning. As such, I encourage self-motivation and positive reinforcement. If a student regards learning the guitar a chore, they will not only resent practicing, but will not increase their abilities. I seek students who genuinely want to play the guitar, and encourage them to select the style which they want to pursue. My job is to ensure they play well; it is up to the student to decide which musical direction to explore. I employ a number of highly effective guitar teaching methods, including the traditional or classical approach, and the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method, also called talent education, mother-tongue method, or Suzuki movement, is an education philosophy which strives to create high ability and beautiful character in its students, through a nurturing environment. The nurture involved in the movement is modeled on some of the factors present in native language acquisition, such as immersion, encouragement, small steps, and an unforced timetable for learning material, based on each person's developmental readiness to imitate examples, internalize principles, and contribute novel ideas.
