We loved Ed! Not only was the food DELICIOUS, but the service was outstanding. Ed is a real people person, and every visit we had felt comfortable. Ed and Amazing Caterers catered for my wedding on Oct. 7th 2016. All my guests loved the food and variety Amazing Caterers offer, and I even had the chefs checking on myself; always asking if I needed anything throughout the night. Ed also went above and beyond for us, and got us a quote and set up for flatware 3 days before the wedding when a crisis had hit! Thank you Ed, and thank you Amazing Caterers!!

I have too many good things to say about Marc and his staff! He went above and beyond to make the whole experience of planning and having the wedding as smooth and easy going as possible. Of COURSE, the food was phenomenal and totally affordable with our tiny budget, but that is just a small part of the experience. Marc is a veteran with events and knows how things are supposed to run, which was really important for us because we have not been to a whole lot of weddings yet. Every one of the servers who I got to interact with was sweet, courteous, and thoughtful. When my dad had to step out of the buffet line to come dance with me for the father/daughter dance, one of the servers noticed this and brought him a plate directly to his table afterwards. Little things like that made a huge difference for us and our guests! We 100% recommend Marc and Tatering.

We hired Luke for a birthday party, a total of 8 guests. Everything turned out wonderful! Luke walked around making sure everyone's glass remained full AND cooked a fabulous meal. The thing I loved most about the evening was that I could mingle with our guests and enjoy myself rather than playing the hectic hostess. Everything was spotless when he left. I'd highly recommend Luke for your next event! We can't wait to have him back.

My husband and I hired Chef Cassy for the preparation and service of a 3-hour, buffet-style brunch for 25 people in our home. Strong Points - Food was delicious. People loved the unique fried collard greens. Fried chicken was also delish. - Overall strong presentation and professionalism – Chef Cassy wore her chef's attire, her assistant was dressed all in black; both were very client service oriented (e.g. adapted to a minor last minute request easily); catered to the guests and the room by regularly refilling glasses and cleaning the tables; and had great positive energy. It's important for us to have people in our presence/ home with whom we can vibe, who are pleasant, and positive. - Kitchen spotless at the end of the job - Chef Cassy worked to have the pricing accommodate our budget. We ended up spending a little more than we wanted to, but thought that it was a reasonable total price. Areas for Improvement: - Food service (buffet style) could probably have been streamlined with pre-arrival food preparation. The delays were manageable and not really noticed by our guests (who were chatting, drinking, etc.) but it could have been smoother. - Had I known people were going to love the food so much (especially the chicken) I would have ordered more... most guests went back for seconds. Chef Cassy should have told me how amazing the food would be so I’d known to order extra!

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Chef Tony Teems when I threw a close family member a baby shower in February 28th, 2015. This new baby is the first addition to our very large family in many years, and so I was beyond excited to throw a very special shower and deliver an exceptional experience for the guest-of-honor and her closest friends & our family. My event planner and I both worked extensively for a few months to find the perfect catering partner to deliver just the right culinary experience for the event. The planner and I spoke with so many different caterers and had so many tastings, my head was spinning! At this time, I had not yet discovered Chef Tony, so as time was getting short, I elected to proceed with a different caterer. As I continued to ponder the other caterer's menu and reviewed the total price, was just not satisfied- then, I came across Chef Tony Teems' website, ChefsLikeItHot.com. The first thing that drew me in is the variety of his catering menu. Chef Tony's skill set covers a wide range of cuisines from Traditional French to down-home country soul food! He understands the delicate culinary intricacies of so many styles of food and can offer whatever tastes your palette desires. The second thing that captured my attention was his competitive prices. After reviewing so many proposals and prospective contracts from other caterers, Chef Tony's prices are more attractive, particularly for the high quality and complex nature of the cuisines he offers. Chef Tony can work within your established budget and deliver the best value for your money. What drew me in even further was Chef Tony Teems, himself. After reviewing his menu and his prices, I called Chefs Like It Hot Caterers. Chef Tony was very charming, funny and friendly, but what struck me the most was his heightened level of professionalism and can-do attitude. Chef Tony asked all the right questions, answered all of my questions, and even anticipated questions that I did not even think to ask. Even without much time left on the calendar before the shower, Chef Tony confidently reassured me that he would deliver the type of food and service that I sought. -and he exceeded my expectations. Finally, and most importantly, the food tastes amazing! Chef Tony and his assistant chef Lacarnist Hiriams they provided us a delicious, beautifully presented spread of food that had the entire party raving! The baby shower's program started 45 minutes late because I couldn't get the guests to stop eating the food, to stop talking about the food, to stop asking questions about the food, and to stop trying to hire Chef Tony for their own special events! In summary, if you're seeking: *A range of menu options that look and taste absolutely divine * To capture the greatest value for your budget * To deal with a trusted professional whose primary goal is wowing his clients * Then book Chefs Like It Hot Caterers and Chef Tony for your event right away. Bon Apetit! P. Berry

Islanders was a fantastic addition to the wedding my team and I worked on last weekend. Carrie, the owner, worked collaboratively with both our team and the bride and groom to get great food at a great price. The meals were fresh and delicious - the guests really enjoyed them & the customer service they offered was great. If you're planning to have food trucks at your wedding they are a must!

Gabrielle catered my baby shower and it was absolutely wonderful! The food was delicious! Even the meat eaters were raving about the food (especially her jackfruit 'chicken' and waffles)! Such a professional, and even the layout of the food was beautiful. Would definitely have her cater another event!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

    • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
    • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
    • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
    • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
    • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
    • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
