Introduction: Musical Accents is a music teaching studio located in Rowlett, Texas. The studio offers professional music instruction on various instruments and all areas of music.
Piano lessons are currently offered to beginning and advanced-level students of all ages. All styles of piano music are taught; including classical, jazz, rock, blues, country, funk, gospel, and many other styles.
Instruction is also available to students interested in vocals, bands (all levels and styles), theories (beginner to advanced), composition/songwriting, MIDI, notation, recording, and mallet percussion.
The studio offers lessons to students in Rowlett, Rockwall, Mesquite, Garland, Dallas, and surrounding areas.
Founded by Stephen Hughes in 2004, he has over 25 years of training and experience in multiple fields of music. Classically and jazz trained, along with a degree in business, Stephen provides the perfect combination of extraordinary musicianship with a professional touch. He is a piano teacher, performer, accompanist, consultant, and composer. Stephen is an active member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), TMTA (Texas Music Teachers Association), and MAMTA (Mesquite Area Music Teachers Association).

I have been taking piano lessons from Steve for nearly 10 years. Steve is extremely patient and understands that people take lessons for different reasons and allows his students to proceed at their pace according to their personal objectives. Steve does a stellar job of customizing his lessons and teaching style to the needs of his students. Steve keeps current with teaching techniques and is active in professional music teaching associations. I really appreciate how Steve integrates technology into his curriculum through the use of online learning sites and apps.
I have developed a friendship with Steve over the years and have found that I can count on him in a number of ways. Steve didn't hesitate when I asked him to record one of my mom's favorite hymns to be be used with a photo story for her memorial and he did it beautifully. Steve suggested that I consider a hybrid piano and provided feedback on the model I selected and then has helped me figure out how to tap into the piano's capability.
While I don't personally participate in recitals, I do attend them when I can. Steve is extremely patient and supportive of his students. He works very hard to provide a safe environment for the recitals.

I'm an adult student. I've been taking lessons going on 4 years with Steve. I was pretty green when I started out with him, I could barely play with both hands, even though I had taken lessons for three years with another piano teacher. I was going to quit playing piano because of no progress, and then I found Steve's website. My first consultation with Steve was life changing for me, he told me I would see progress if I follow his regiment and put in the practice. At the time I was interested in the Jazz genre, but since he teaches everything I switched to christian and gospel music. Three years later, I became the principle musician at my church and I also play for an outreach ministry once a month. Sometimes I don't believe how well I play, until I hear it from other people. I use to tell people if I can learn the piano anybody can, but I don't believe that anymore. It really takes a really good piano instructor who have studied the art of teaching piano. His detail weekly lessons plans, and recitals help you reach your goals. Not to long ago I posted my new 2017 goals from Steve on my wall to remind me to stay focus, I'm telling you, this guy loves teaching, not to mention he has awesome chops! Thanks Steve!

Mr. Hughes is a Great teacher! He personalizes everything for the student, from musical styles to students abilities. Steve is Great with kids and always has an upbeat positive attitude.
I have and will continue to highly recommend Musical Accents to anyone considering musical training.

Steve is a wonderful music teacher. He is very dedicated to his students and to their success. He puts a lot of effort and thought into his studio. Anytime I expressed a concern that my child was getting bored, he was able to adjust to meet my child's needs. He uses a lot of great technology. My son absolutely loved the Summer Jam performances. I highly recommend Mr. Steve!
