- How did you get started doing this type of work?
So many friends were calling me for help with their computers so I thought I would go ahead and start charging people for my time.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most people want to have wireless connectivity in their house. So I come in and look at what their home is made of (wood, brick, stone, etc...) and determine the best type of wireless router for their home. I also look at the distance covered to be sure the whole home and maybe the deck and/or garage are covered. You never want the signal from your wireless system reaching the street.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask questions like what do you check if the monitor is losing signal off and on or maybe just getting a little interference and if they do not tell you that they will check the video card to be sure it is seated properly in a desktop or the wires going from the chassis to the monitor on a laptop, then you have someone who is likely going to not give you a good experience.
