Stephanie Rey says, "Our first time having to do foundation repair, so took a leap that the reviews were real for Baird. I have to say that the service has been great so far. Shelby our project coordinator kept us informed on the time line for when the work would start, the permits and inspections that have to happen and who will be coming to the house. The crew that showed up called before they arrived. Then explained what would happen first. They (James V, Jonathan G, & Rene R) were very friendly and took time to answer questions that popped up. They took care to make sure my mom was very comfortable with them, explaining as each step was to happen. The job took 2 1/2 days (not counting stopping for rain) just like they said it would. They only thing is I wish it wasn't so expensive, but oh well, at least I have piece of mind that they will come again if anything needs addressing (guaranteed baby! ). Thx guys"See more

Diana E. says, "Pascual and his team have done an absolutely tremendous job working on my recently bought home! The house was built in 1978 so we had issues from old popcorn ceiling that has been painted over numerous times, old carpet and flooring, walls that needed repainting, an extremely outdated kitchen that needed remodeling, a broken deck, light fixture installation, electrical rewiring… Pascual reached out back to me the very same day I requested a quote. He then went on-site the day after to assess my home needs. What I appreciated the most was how he did not simply give me the quotes I was requesting, but he gave me different ideas and advice about the projects I was interested in doing. He is truly knowledgeable in his profession and I refuse to use anyone else on my future projects. Also, his team works incredibly fast. I found him a little over two weeks ago and most projects are complete (with the exception of the deck which I am still planning out). I am thoroughly impressed with every aspect of this company. 10/10 recommend!"See more

Dustin D. says, "Over the past year, we’ve had several projects at our home that needed attention, and we’ve worked with Elevated Construction Group, specifically Chris, to get them done. I can confidently say we’ve had zero issues with the work Chris and his team have completed. From remodeling a bathroom and updating flooring to designing plans for our upstairs and den, they have been consistently flexible, responsive, and kind. As a veteran myself, it means a lot to be taken care of by a fellow veteran. There’s an extra level of trust and respect knowing Chris understands what it means to serve with integrity, and it shows in how he runs his business. It’s easy to see why this new company already has so many positive reviews. And while every business may occasionally get an unfair or misleading review, I can assure you from personal experience that Chris and his team operate with integrity. Any negative comment you see likely comes from someone looking to nitpick or take advantage, not from the quality of their work. If you have projects waiting, don’t put them off—Chris is truly the most honest contractor you’ll ever work with."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

On average, brick repairs will cost you around $500, with a range of between $350 and $600. However, be aware that a number of factors will have a large influence on this cost. First is the severity of the problem. Some brick repairs are as simple as applying new mortar — others require removing the brick entirely and fixing the substrate. If budget is a concern, contact several brick masons for cost estimates to find the best price in your area.

Because unsealed concrete is porous, it readily absorbs liquids, leading to unsightly stains and freeze-and-thaw cycle damage. For this reason, it’s important to seal concrete that will see spills or outdoor weather.

The best option for garage floors and other high-traffic areas is epoxy, which forms a hard and extremely durable surface on top of concrete. Epoxy, acrylic, and polishes are often used on indoor floors, while acrylic-resin sealers and reactive penetrating sealers are used on outdoor surfaces to repel water and salt. Locate a concrete contractor in your area to help find the best solution.

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

Concrete contractors can build foundations, structures, driveways, concrete storm drains, raise or level concrete patios and much more. They can handle every step of the process, starting with framing the mold that the concrete is poured into. They then cut, assemble and tie together the rebar, giving the concrete its tensile strength. Finally, they pour the concrete in, mixing and conditioning it to ensure it cures properly. They will also take steps to ensure that no air pockets are trapped within it.

If you have a project that requires the help of a concrete contractor, reach out to one today to get a price estimate.

Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

It depends. Sometimes, you might not require repair work — but you should still hire a professional to see if the cracks in your bricks are a serious threat to your home’s foundation and structural integrity.

Cracks (particularly larger cracks) can present a problem. If you have stair-step cracks or horizontal cracks, there may be an issue with your home’s foundation. Wider cracks can also allow water to infiltrate and cause damage from freezing and thawing. Insects can also enter wider cracks and cause more problems (and headaches).

If you have brick and stone repairs that need to be done, search for masonry services near you. Masons are skilled tradespeople and specialize in building and repairing stone, brick, concrete, tile and other similar materials on structures. They work with these materials as well as the mortar that holds them together and are the pro of choice when repairs are needed.

Hire the right mason based on the repairs you need — some masons specialize in working with brick, concrete, natural stone or other materials.

A concrete paint cover is typically opaque and covers up the color of the concrete. This means it provides significant protection to the concrete below. However, if it is improperly applied or subjected to heavy traffic, a painted concrete floor is likely to chip and peel.

Epoxy and staining are two types of concrete floor sealer. Epoxy is a more durable but often more expensive option than a concrete stain. Epoxy forms a protective layer, while concrete stain is more decorative and requires more maintenance. Because epoxy can be more expensive than concrete stain, it is best used in high-traffic areas or in applications where low maintenance is desired.

A concrete stain, on the other hand, is quick to apply and can show off the textures of the concrete, but it does not provide a high degree of protection for the concrete against spills, salt, water and other contaminants. Staining concrete generally requires a dust mop, a pH-neutral cleaner and water to clean, while epoxy can cause resin buildup that necessitates the use of special detergents.

Find a concrete contractor near you for help selecting the right floor concrete sealer.

A stone mason builds structures like buildings, walls and piers out of stone. They may use natural stone, pre-cut stone, slabs or other types of stone to get the job done. Other jobs stone masons take on include laying walkways, curbs, pizza ovens and other structures or landscaping works. It’s common to hire a stone mason to perform certain parts of home building, such as an interior or exterior stone wall.

Crumbling bricks, otherwise known as spalling bricks, can often be repaired. The process involves removing and repairing the damaged mortar, cleaning the surface and then also removing any damaged bricks to prevent the problem from spreading. Contact a brick mason near you to fix your crumbling bricks.
