I had a complete backyard redo - to include a new fence and gates around the perimeter of my property, a 16x16 concrete pad with pergola - a 10x10 pad for a thermo-spa and xeriscaping on a very slanted landscape. Rick and his team were there making sure that in every step of the process I was informed and satisfied. He is professional, courteous, capable and very reasonable. I enjoyed working with them -and my back yard looks FABULOUS! Just waiting to find the right accessories (furniture etc...) and enjoy it for years to come!

As a surgeon, I am a pretty meticulous person and I can't recommend Eddie enough! Not only did he show up in a timely matter, he was very professional and after watching his work during the first day, I could immediately tell he was a perfectionist. I hired Eddie to remove thinset from a concrete foundation and the job itself turned into a daunting task as most of the thinset stayed on the concrete slab versus any of the tile I removed. He showed up in a timely matter both days, finished the job as promised on the 2nd day even though he was here till 8pm. Regardless of how exhausted he was, he kept up a very high intensity the entire day. While my wife and I painted, we couldn't believe the work ethic going on in the next room over. Don't hesitate to use S&G Home Services, I know I will! Thanks Eddie!

Quality: The finish they did was great! Matched other rooms very well. Getting a good texture match was important to me. Professionalism: Team was polite and courteous. Responsiveness: Joel always responded via Thumbtack quickly. I always knew the status of the work and when he thought they would be finished. Value: His bid was not the cheapest nor the most expensive. I find you get what you pay for -- and for the quality of work, what he bid was very reasonable. Punctuality: In general, very punctual. Our first day the team was a little late (got hung up at the supply store), but they hustled over as fast as they could. Otherwise, they finished when I expected they would. Other remarks: Popcorn removal is a messy process -- this case was no exception. While they did an admirable job covering the floors, and trying to minimize the impact, dust still got everywhere - even in parts of the house where they weren't working. There was also texture splatter here and there, but they cleaned it up without complaint. Expect that this process will require you paint your walls in the rooms where it is done. The ceiling will look so much nicer it will make your walls look awful. If you plan to paint your walls, wait and do popcorn removal first. :D They also were game to take on a little extra item here and there (we negotiated $$ as we went). Saved me from having to hire separate contractors later -- so that was a bonus. Having worked with a lot of sub-contractors and home improvement projects, the work was done very well. The dust / mess I can clean-up (and frankly, it was expected). Solid A overall.

The job consisted of painting every room in the house, including the garage, repaired walls, and retextured some of the walls, painted cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. The counter tops in the kitchen was replaced, bathrooms were upgraded with new vanity and tile replaced. The flooring in the whole house was replaced. New closet doors were fabricated to replace the damaged ones in the master bedroom. New closet doors in the hallway. New tile around the fireplace, front door and garage door were replaced. Once he was done with the interior he painted the exterior of the house and replaced the roof. The project was extensive, I was very pleased with Sam and his crew they were professional showed up everyday I could see progress whenever I would go to house which meant they were working. I liked that Sam came up with creative ideas to streamline the job but did not take shortcuts the materials used were top grade. The house looks better than new. I would definitely recommend Sam and use him on future projects.

Rich was very reasonable, efficient and nice to work with. I only had a small repair needed on my wood floor and he knew just what to do. He explained everything and when he was done, even filled in a large scratch I had with a wood colored marker just to be extra helpful! I would highly recommend Rich!

JJ was very professional throughout the entire experience with excellent communication and keeping me informed of how long the job would take. It is so rare these days to find a honest contractor who does good work and you feel like you can trust them in your home. He is not only professional but he is very personable and a genuinely good person. He works fast and doesn't drag out the job to make more money. I am so glad I met JJ and will definitely tell my friends and family about him and use him again in the future. I love how versatile he is and can work on so many different things. Everyone needs a good handyman, and JJ is your man.

They couldn't have done a better job! Very professional, excellent work, impeccable attention to detail, very clean! Albert and crew did the floors in my entire home and also put in kitchen backsplash. They cleaned up so well at the end of each day you'd hardly know they were even there. From start to finish, price to product, I couldn't have asked for anything more-- nothing lacking. I have used other flooring contractors in the past and these guys are by far the best. I would highly recommend stone oak flooring.

The windows installation went smoothly and upon completion and inspection, all windows worked perfectly. The premises were left in perfect order with all debris removed and swept up inside and out. I had obtained 4 bids which were quite variable but Cool solutions provided quality windows as the best bidder and which was followed up by personal and extra attention by owner Dennis Harris. In fact, they cleaned up my garage and painted the garage floor at no cost even though offered!! Hard to believe in these days of hit and run vendors. I have reviewed other remodeling jobs by Cool Solutions (Kitchens cabinets etc) and plan more work with this company! Nicholas D. Ricco 214 293 3606

I just can't say enough nice things about Kasa Renovations! They are honest, professional, and true craftsmen. I was delighted by their perfectionism, which unfortunately is almost nonexistent these days in the home improvement field. They were excellent communicators, very patient, and extremely considerate at all times. They came prepared, followed through on all promises, and cleaned meticulously at the end of each workday. They used high efficiency equipment that created minimal noise and/or dust. As mentioned, I've had horrific experiences with other contractors previously, so it was very heartening to discover that there are still individuals who take pride in their craft and seek to create something of beauty rather than just slapping a floor down. It isn't necessary to monitor their work because they have incredibly high standards for themselves. We absolutely love our beautiful floor and plan on hiring them again in the future. I just wish they did every aspect of renovation so that we would never have to work with anyone else!

Edson and his team did an amazing job! They replaced our floors in our kitchen and pantry, performed a small drywall repair, and replaced our baseboards and cabinet trim. The team was professional at all times and worked with us on last minute requests. We would definitely hire Edson and his team again, and would recommend them to anyone looking to have their floors replaced.

Cesar has spent the last 6 weeks at our home remodeling the master bedroom and bathroom. It was a rough job. We removed the shower and bathtub and had him make a gigantic shower. We also had him build the wall out for a fireplace in the bedroom (along with paint and tile). Everything looks AMAZING! He's just finishing with installing the barn door right now. Nice guy, talented--great ideas and TRUSTWORTHY. We couldn't have been happier. We will definitely have him come back to do the floors in the rest of the house. Thanks Cesar!! You made us so happy!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
