David was great from start to finish. He gave an estimate in writing the same day he looked at the ceiling repair work we needed. He scheduled timely and completed the work within the estimate in time and money. We plan to use him again for future painting and fence work.

Prompt response from owner, he was at my house that afternoon to look at property and give an estimate. My yard was overgrown due to personal illness. The price was reasonable. The owner and a helper showed up on day promised and did an amazing job. They mowed, trimmed around fences and foundation. They used a blade trimmer to edge and applied roundup to dense clumps of weeds in my driveway. They then blew away all grass debris. The yard looked amazing. I plan to keep them coming back on a regular basis.

To start, our fence was falling apart! We went from one of the nicest fences in the neighborhood to one of the ugliest. Our original fence was a standard, builder’s grade fence installed by the home builder in 2007, which we had professionally repaired in 2014 (via another contractor), but this time were due for a complete replacement. We've had great success with the professionals on Thumbtack and although we’ve never worked with Queta Construction before, Henry Rodriguez’s response time, pricing, and knowledge were superior to all the other fencing contractors we interviewed. It was a pleasure working with him at the end of April 2016 and after the treated boards have had a chance to dry out in a month or two, his team will be back out to stain our fence. Again, super nice, very professional, and very reasonable in price. Where most contractors we’ve talked to (even on past projects) will only accept cash or check, Queta Construction also accepts credit as a form of payment. Henry came to our home within days of initial contact on Thumbtack for a quote which was provided within minutes and his team was available to begin work only a couple of business days later. He listened to all our requests and made recommendations where appropriate. They even built us a custom trashcan containment area to match the fencing (pricing on that custom build was excellent, as well). Very flexible scheduling, returned phone calls quickly, and work was completed ahead of schedule. The fence is superior to our builder’s standard fence in every way: treated pine posts, rails, and 2x6 base supports, and beautiful 1x6 cedar pickets, posts installed at 2.5’ depth with no cement showing above ground, everything installed very evenly and flowed smoothly with the peaks and valleys of the yard, from posts to rails to pickets. Great quality boards, no visible knots or holes. I highly recommend Mr. Rodriguez and team! I understand some of my neighbors have already contacted him for quotes of their after seeing the work he did at our house. Thanks again Henry!!

When I first started looking for someone to replace our fence, Dean with Aloha Landscaping was one of the first to reply with an price estimate. He was very responsive to every question and quickly came out to take measurements for a detailed quote. Once we selected Aloha for the job, they were able to start very quickly (within a couple days). His crew worked hard and steady throughout the project. What started out as a complete fence replacement of mine and both neighbors to the sides turned in to a lot more fences in the neighborhood (I think he ended up scoring 3-4 more of our neighbors). Everyone seems to be just as happy as I am with the quality and value. Additionally, I hired Aloha to do some landscaping for me as well. Dean had a great vision for the project when I was unsure what exactly I wanted. He gave me a very fair price given the amount of manual labor involved and I am very pleased with the overall product. I will be using Aloha Landscape & Fencing for future projects, as well as recommending them to friends and neighbors. Quality products at a fair price. What more could you ask for from a company?

Working with Pedro was a breeze! I messaged him on Friday and he came out that same day to give me a price quote. He had an opening the following Monday (after the weekend) and knocked it out super fast! Will definitely use him again in the future when it's time to replace my other fences!

Steven is an artisan. He rebuilt half my fence. I had the other half rebuilt by someone else a year earlier, and Steven made the other guy's work look like amateur hour. Each post was cleanly set in concrete, then covered in soil, so I could hardly tell. Everything was neat, tidy, and professional.

Outstanding service with this gentleman, Mr. Pablo, and his crew. They built a new fence around my ranch house and tore down the old one. I hired him for something else after that, for a patio cover, and my wife decided she wanted it covered. They built me a fabulous covered patio taut we now use for entertaining. We have referred him to friends and family! Highly recommended for any outdoor (or even indoor) structure. Drywall, painting, he does it all and does a very fine and professional job.

These guys did an excellent job sealing my fence. Andrew was very punctual and professional while giving me my estimate so it was clear very early on that he was the right one for the job. Our fence looks great and he finished before the time he quoted us. We are going to hire him back to do some landscaping for us. Would highly recommend him.

Joseph Kaiser was fantastic!!! I told him I needed the front lawn mowed to stay out of trouble with the HOA. He had an opening that same day and offered to come over. I didn't respond in time, so he scheduled me for the very next day. He offered a variety of payment options and made the entire experience hassle free. I will definitely be using Kaiser Lawn care again

My Wife and I moved into our new home and was looking for a handyman. We hired Sean to stain our fence and to build shelves on our garage. Sean and his assistant were on time and completed the jobs to our satisfaction. We extended the list of things that we wanted Sean and his assistant to do. Everything was done in a professional manner. I hired Sean again 4 months later to assemble and level a storage shed. Sean delivered again, we were very satisfied with the finished product of all the projects that we hired him to do. Sean was on time and gave us a fair price quote for all of the task that he was scheduled to do. We would defiantly hire Sean again for any other handyman projects that we have in the future.

I now have the best looking fence in the neighborhood. I hired Fred's Outdoor Services for a removal of an old fence and complete installation of a new one. I also hired him to install St. Augustine grass in the front lawn and install a flagstone pathway to the front door as well. I'm beyond happy with the work he and his crew did. I highly recommend Fred's Outdoor Services and I will be hiring him for a couple of more projects in the very near future.

I’m a Realtor. My client needed services for fence and gate repair quick. When I went out for estimates, Julio with Angel Construction Services was one of the first to respond. For my situation, here is what I specifically appreciated: • promptness to respond and get to the essence of what I needed...thank you! • communication and negotiation qualities • willingness to provide a detailed estimate with information provided, saving an extra trip for both parties • flexibility with work schedule to get the job completed timely • thoroughness and quality of work • recap and tour of work performed • ability to build trust through work performed for future needs After evaluating this job from start to finish, I would definitely have Julio with Angel Construction Services in my speed dial for future needs. Attached to this review are a few before and after pics of the final job. Originally, the fence was missing pickets, had a heavy bow/lean on two sides, was severely discolored, and needed staining/water repellant. The gate was also broken and not opening very well. Additionally, a column on the porch had rotted skirt at base. All were restored at a reasonable price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
