Introduction: An Integrative Yoga Therapist with over 4,000 hours of training and nearly 6,000 hours of teaching, I bring a level of experience and expertise unparalleled in the San Antonio area. I have been practicing various styles of yoga off and on since the early 80’s, with a consistent practice since 1994, and incorporating yoga into a variety of teaching activities since 2002. After training at Sundara Yoga Therapy, I became a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher in March 2012, was grandfathered as a Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher based on hours taught to children, became a Certified Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher – Now called Trauma Informed Yoga Therapist – in May 2012, an Integrative Yoga Therapist at the 500 Hour Level in August 2013 and at the 1,000 Hour Level in May of 2016, Certified as a Yoga Therapist with International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT) in September of 2016, and became a Neuro Kinetic Therapist in 2018. I am a Yoga Warriors International Certified Instructor, a Certified Therapeutic Adaptive Yoga for MS Instructor, a Functional Yoga Therapist (FYT) and a Warriors at Ease(WAE), Veterans Yoga Project, and iRest Yoga Nidra trained instructor. I have experience teaching populations like: yoga for corporations, yoga for children and teens, yoga for seniors, yoga for women’s health issues, yoga for substance abuse recovery, yoga for bigger bodies, and yoga for veterans and active duty military. I have worked for more than a year at a time with in patient substance abuse recovery, a national organization providing support services to families in foster care, both in and outpatient VA programs including Poly-Trauma and TBI, and the active duty military Warriors in Transition Battalion at Brook Army Medical Center/San Antonio Military Medical Center/JBSA-FSH. I have also worked with both Sundara Yoga Therapy (TIYT) and Functional Yoga Therapy (FYT) programs for more than two years each as part of the Integrative Yoga Therapy and Inner Peace Yoga Therapy programs, and am lead instructor for Bija Academy of Yoga Therapy's 200 Hr. Teacher Training Program as an affiliate of Integrative Yoga Therapy. My primary areas of specialization as a yoga therapist are: Trauma/Anxiety, Auto-Immune Disorders, Joint Replacements, Structural Issues, Cancer Recovery, Military/Veteran Populations, Chronic Pain, Diabetes, Stroke Recovery, and Generalized Stress Management. It is my joy to work with individuals one-on-one to find the tools that they find comfortable using to meet their wellness needs; to educate small groups on a condition through the lens of yoga therapy and how we can complement the tools their doctors have given them with aspects of yoga and ayurveda that will help them address their long term health; or even leading small public classes specialized for those for whom a vigorous asana practice may not always be the best fit. I have a lot of knowledge and experience to share, but each person working with me has the most important knowledge and experience – that of their own being – together we can work to find the best path toward each individual’s optimal wellness.

I have been taking studio and private yoga sessions with Michelle Bowles for almost two years. I began as a tagalong with my wife but because of Michelle's comfortable but persistent guidance into yoga I began soon to realize and experience the mental and physical benefits of the practice. Through her guidance I have discovered a new level of relaxation and many of the aches and pains I had accepted as the inevitable result of advancing age have greatly diminished. My previous sciatica problem has improved 90% under Michelle's knowledgeable guidance. She is a serious and persistent professional who is also a warm and caring human being who is as devoted to responding to the individual needs of the members of her studio classes as those of her private clients. Michelle's only drawback is that there is only one of her.
