I had an absolutely wonderful experience with John Garza as my photographer for my wedding in 08/2015. I did not have a large budget to work with, and a lot of my family and friends thought his rates were to good to be true, but the pictures turned out to be exactly what I wanted and more. John took pictures at my ceremony and my reception. After a crazy stressful week, I finally contacted John by text on the way to the church and he replied that he was already there. I did not give John any type of picture list, or vision of what I wanted, I basically said "Do your thing!" and left him to fend for himself. John was like a ninja during the ceremony, I don't recall seeing him take any pictures, only after I saw the pictures did I realize he took A LOT. After, we did all the family shots in the church, John was very patient even though he was being pushed by my relatives trying to take their own pictures. :) After the ceremony our bridal party traveled to a garden even though it was so hot we had so much fun taking pictures. He offered his ideas and let us be weird and crazy. He took the best action shots at the reception and he was always ther for the best memorable moments. I even completely forgot that I had booked him till 9pm and time went over, but he never bothered me about it or said anything. He was very polite. All in all John was awesome, the experience and the many many pictures turned out to be perfect!

Ben and Heather are the dynamic duo in capturing special moments! We loved their easy going personality and their expertise in both photography and videography. We received great feedback from our guests and they haven't even seen the finished product! I would most certainly recommend Ben and Heather for any future projects. Thank you Zanzibar for giving us precious memories of our daughter's wedding!

Michael did an amazing job with everything throughout the entire process of taking our engagement and wedding photos. Not only did he take the shots we had imagined ourselves, but he also used his own creativity to make things come out even better. He truly has a great eye for photography and I would recommend him to anyone.

Gerard was extremely professional during all stages of production, from working with me ahead of my speaking event, to scoping out the conference center early and working with me on creative ideas during the editing stages. He was easy to work with during my videography shoot and provided quality equipment for video and audio needs. He made sure I got exactly what I needed in a timely fashion. I would definitely use him again!

Norris did an absolutely epic job with filming & editing my SxSW talk. He & his wife Charlene took the job on short notice, communicated & arrived promptly, and completed the editing quickly despite the fact that my presentation had a large number of slides. If you need event filming at SxSW or at any other conference in the Austin area, you should definitely hire Norris & his team.

Highly recommended!! I hired Rogy after searching for videographers because I had a small videography need -- I needed to capture footage of my speaking at various events for later editing. Rogy was the best fit for the job and was impressive upon initial contact. He was very communicative, easy to work with, and his work is superb. I am looking forward to working with him more and glad that I have a go-to videography source! Thanks for all you do, Rogy. You made the process easy!

Nathaniel & his wife did an amazing job filming our wedding. We haven't gotten the video back yet but that's only because it's only been 2 weeks. I expect that our wedding video will be amazing & I'm basing that from some of their other work & from some of the footage they got. I can't wait to see our video!!!

Brooke is simply the best! After finding her on thumbtack my sister made the best decision of having her wedding photographs shot by Brooke. She recently shot my engagement photos and we could not be more pleased. Not only is Brooke kind and sweet; she is also professional, punctual, a great communicator and extremely talented. She was able to get a second photographer, which I wanted for part of my wedding and she even recommended a great videographer. I cannot wait for my second round of pictures! I'll be sure to post a follow up review. :)

One of my favorite weddings that I photographed in 2014 was Aasha and David's wedding at the TFWC Mansion in Austin on June 29, 2014. Matt Kordelski with Mattkprovideo.com was the professional wedding videographer at Aasha and David's wedding. Matt worked very well with the other wedding vendors at the wedding. He also worked well with the couple. Brides, wedding vendors who can work well with your other wedding vendors as well as with you and the groom is extremely important and ensures that your big day will be a whole lot less stressful! Matt also delivers to his couples beautiful wedding videos, as you can see if you check out his wedding videography online. All in all, Matt with Mattkprovideo.com is an excellent choice for your wedding and event videographer!

Amazing!!! Totally professional team. It only lets me choose 3 of the 5 qualities, but they hold all 5. Arfan and Diana are absolutely great. My wedding was only two days ago (9/15/18) and I already have access to the beautiful photos they took. They were early, they were courteous and patient. They scouted the property (castle) to see where the best lighting would be and best backdrop. Would recommend 100%! Thanks for taking gorgeous photos of our special day.

Mr. Freddie Munoz of Digisol Media did a really fantastic job filming my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration at the historic Menger Hotel. He had two cameras and had to film a singer moving around the room. I could not have had a better videographer for this event. Thank you Freddie for capturing this moment in our lives. It will be a blessing for many years to come.

Eva is an overall wonderful person and has a great energy about her. I won't lie, getting our contract finalized was just a little rocky from the beginning... My husband and I decided to do everything on our own (no wedding planner, and just a little help from friends/family) which made things maybe just a tiny bit more stressful than they could've been. When we mailed our payments to Eva and both checks ended up getting lost somehow... Hey, mistakes happen! I didn't appreciate the extra work in getting our checks cancelled and sending out new ones, but Eva definitely made up for it. She met up with my husband to apologize, and also ensured we would be getting a discount as well as an extra photographer. I was so so happy with the way everything turned out. Eva is energetic and excited about her work - and it shows!

Marv was our videographer for our wedding and I could not be happier with the finished product. Many videographers we looked into provided only a 5-7 minute highlight reel of the event, but Marv provided a ~40 minute long video capturing us getting ready, the ceremony, toasts, dances, and other reception highlights. I loved the shots he got, how he edited the final product, the music he chose, and truly everything about it. He is very professional and also a pleasure to work with so I highly highly recommend him for your wedding day video needs!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
