Excellent! Inquired for a cleaning on a Friday night at 10:30pm for a Saturday morning cleaning. The Jones team was quick to respond and on the job by 10am! They worked around the construction crew who were finishing up and made all look amazing. Looking to rehire on a continuous basis for regular light cleaning.

Awesome cleaning service. My house was filthy, seriously. I do landscaping and wearing boots makes for dusty wood floors. My kiddos have things in every nook and cranny. I asked for a general cleaning with ceiling fans. These ladies went above and beyond what I asked. My house looks amazing. 5 stars doesn't do their work justice!

David worked on both framing and drywall (hanging, tape, float, and texture) for a new walk in closet and separate bathroom I am putting in my home. He was friendly, timely, and responsible. His work was beautiful and exceeded my expectations. I will definitely hire him again if I have another project to do.

Pablo Gay, owner, did a wonderful job in creating a deck for our garden home, at an affordable price. Quality work with a good work ethic, he was timely, organized and efficient. He actually does the work with the aid of a helper. His meticulous construction philosophy, along with his ability to adjust the design to the specific conditions found on our property, resulted in a custom deck that is very durable, pleasing to the eye, and practical to use.

We hired Felipe to help us remodel our bathroom. We wanted to remove the tub unit and install a standing shower. We hired Felipe based on his sheer honesty about the cost of the project as well as his ability to begin the project as soon as possible. He charged us only for the labor of removing the tub unit (and hauling the pieces away), and the installation of the new shower, including the tiling. All of the expenses came out of our pocket, so we purchased the tile and door on our own time. Any of the other materials needed (concrete, siding, grout, etc) Felipe purchased and billed us for later. He showed us every single receipt for anything he bought at the time of reimbursement. It was all at retail prices (he bought everything from Home Depot). He also picked up the door from Home Depot for us, as it was unable to fit in our car, at no extra cost. At the end of each day he told me exactly what he and his son (the only people working the job) did and exactly what his plans were for the next day. If there was going to be a delay of any kind, he let us know right away and made it known that it was not going to change the price that we agreed upon at the beginning of the project at all. If you are having any bathroom work done in your home, I HIGHLY recommend this man. We are extremely satisfied with the completed project and the entire process. We will definitely be hiring Felipe in the future should we want to remodel our second bathroom.

I was very hesitant to hire J&S. The quote was good but I have had bad experiences in hiring via Internet before. This time was by far my best experience with a handyman service. John was very good in answering his phone and showing up when he said. He sent Paul to work on my project. Paul was amazing! He can do just about everything. He was smart, worked quickly, and was very good about explaining everything to me. If they give you a quote, accept it!

Hire Kyle of Dechert Construction! He did a great job building a custom fence for us at a very reasonable price. He showed up on time and when he said he would. He worked well into the night to get our project completed on time. We already have him bidding out another job for us. Great experience with him!

Towers Contractors LLC did an excellent job in constructing a solid foundation deck for an outdoor patio kitchen I had recently purchased. There team of workers were punctual every day and wee very helpful and educational in assisting me with the design of the deck I desired. They took the time to explain the process of what was required to build a sturdy deck that extended from my pool side edge over an area of my sloped backyard. They completed the project in a short period of time. All members of their team were always courteous and professional. I highly recommend them for your future construction projects.

Alfred did a great job constructing my brick mailbox. If you are working on a tight budget, he is definitely affordable. I received quotes that were 3 times of what he bid to do the project for. I would definitely recommend. Doug

We had a water leak that spread throughout the house. Jon purchased all materials (baseboards, paint, and construction material) for the repairs. I could contact him anytime during his business hours and after. His response was always professional. I personally saw him work. He was never late for work and stayed busy all day. His estimate was fair and reasonable. I will probably call him if I need him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do construction project managers do?

Construction project managers help in all stages of your construction project, starting from the very first step. Typically paid a percentage of a total project cost, they are part of the design and planning process and help ensure seamless communication between the design parties and the construction team. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, their scope of work includes preparing cost estimates, budgets and work timetables; interpreting and explaining contracts and technical information to other professionals; reporting work progress and budget to clients; collaborating with architects, engineers and other construction pros; selecting subcontractors and scheduling and coordinating their tasks; responding to work delays, emergencies and other problems; and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, building and safety codes, and other regulations.

The work of construction project managers may seem very similar to that of general contractors, but there are some critical differences. One difference is that, unlike most general contractors, project managers are not engaged in the actual construction — they are onsite overseeing the work of subcontractors. Another key difference is that project managers are hired during the design phase, while general contractors are hired after plans have been made. The project manager is generally paid a percentage of the total project cost, while the general contractor is more typically paid according to the bid they gave to build your project.

How do I find out if a contractor is licensed?

It’s important to know if your project requires work by a licensed professional, as licensing laws can vary by state, locality, and job details. You can find general licensing information online at the government websites that handle occupational licensing for a given profession in your state or location. Some states designate a project cost over which you have to hire a licensed contractor. To find qualified licensed contractors, search your state’s licensing board. For example, in California, the Department of Consumer Affairs operates a searchable database through the Contractors State License Board. In some states, contracting licenses are provided at a regional level. You can find links to specific databases on BRB Publications’ Occupational Licensing page. Red flags that a contractor may not be licensed or may be providing an expired or false license number are unreasonably low bids or a request for complete payment upfront. How much does a project manager charge per hour?

You may choose to hire a construction project manager for your residential or commercial project. For the hands-on homeowner who wants to be involved in home construction but isn’t comfortable hiring subcontractors, a construction project manager can oversee these relationships and supervise labor. Typically, construction project managers charge a fee that is a flat percentage of the total construction project cost. This may range from 10 percent to 15 percent, depending on the company and the services they provide. This means a $30,000 home remodel project would have a construction project management fee of $3,000-$4,500. Hiring a construction project manager generally precludes the markup on subcontractor labor charged by a general contractor. The drawback to this choice is that, unlike a general contractor, the construction project manager won’t be financially responsible for the work of the subcontractors. For larger projects, you may hire a construction project manager who will also hire a general contractor. This provides the benefits of the general contractor along with the management services of the project manager, who will be on board from the beginning. The construction project manager will be involved in the design phase and work with the architects and the building crew, facilitating a smoother overall process.

What is a contractor license number?

A contractor license number is proof that your contractor is operating their business legally, that they have the proper documentation required by your state or region, and that they are competent in their area of work (electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.). Licensed contractors should freely advertise their contractor license number. If not, you can request it before considering them for hire. You can also research your contractor using their license number. The database for your state will indicate the field they are licensed to work in; whether they are up to date on insurance, workers’ compensation and bonds; and whether they have any consumer complaints issued against them. If the licensed contractor you are hiring does not have employees, they are not required to carry workers’ compensation. Each state or region will have their own database for licenses, such as the State of Oregon Construction Contractors Board. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
