Mike Thompson worked diligently to get fans, several lighting fixtures, a smoke alarm, new porch light fixture, etc. installed. I would definitely recommend him, and I know I'll be having him back to do some other lighting projects that are on my list. Thank you, Mike!

Dan replaced wooden porch rails pickets. Work included painting the new wood and attaching the rail assemblies to brick pillars. Quality of work was good, rails were mounted well and were symetrical. Work was done in a timely manner. Rate was very reasonable.

We hired Ray to fix a hole in our ceiling, his drywall work is awesome you can't even tell where the hole was. We also hired him to take the wall down in our sun room to open our back porch up, once again awesome job. Ray is very professional, very informative and clean.

My name is Beverly H. Dennis built a fence around the patio area of the duplex that I own. He replaced shingles on my roof and also built a railing around the perimeter of the front porch. Dennis provided estimates prior to doing the work and worked within my budget, letting me know if the price of materials needed was more or less than expected. Whenever I wanted to alter the plans, he listened, offered advice and proceeded with what we agreed upon. Dennis is an awesome honest person and I will continue to call on him when I need help.

We needed a contractor to remodel our front and back porches and also to underpin both porches. Even though they ran into some problems with the structures due to previous owners DIY work they persisted and fixed the problems and built the porch railings, new posts, and underpinning just the way we wanted. So many contractors want to do it their way and I love the fact that they realized it was my dime not theirs. The only "con" I could add is they need to work on their scheduling a bit but when you're new and trying really hard to get your name out there it's kind of hard to turn away jobs. I know because I have been there done that. "All In The Family" transformed our home from plain vanilla to warm and welcoming! Always wanted a home with that farmhouse appeal and now we have it! (Check out the before and after photos.) Now all we have to do now is get off our backsides, figure out what color/colors to paint and get our new black shutters installed. LOL Steve, Dawn and Duane are eager to please, wonderfully pleasant "Christian" people and relatively new in this area so give them chance and give them a call, you'll be glad you did.

I can’t say enough about Wenk Construction! Jason Wenk contacted me shortly after I posted on thumbtack that I needed a job done for my mother in Dallas (I’m in Ohio) and I couldn’t be down there to oversee it till after he would start on it. “It” being a added screened in porch pergola. He was very kind, professional and made me feel very comfortable that I sent him out as soon as he was free to meet my mom and look at her patio. Well of course he made my mother feel the same and assured her that he could do whatever she needed and BOY WAS HE RIGHT! Everything I threw at him, he would say “sure, I can do that” AND HE WOULD:) I threw him a few curve balls like, add a wall here or add a shelf there and he would make it better than I imagined:) After meeting Jason in person and getting to know him I can tell you that he is a very kind, prompt, trustworthy, professional AND his estimates are fair if not under priced! We will definitely use him again and again! Sorry these photos do not show the extensiveness of the work he did (pergola, inside wall, French doors, shelving) but it’s all I have in here in Ohio:)

Richard has done several jobs for me. He hung three large wooden blinds, and did an excellent job in a short amount of time. He has also trimmed a huge pecan tree that had brances hitting my shingles. He created a flower bed for me quickly. He has also sanded, primed, and painted my porch swing that was in bad condition, and now looks like new. All of the work went well and turned out beautiful. He has an excellent knowledge of how things work, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to my friends and neighbors.

Chris (the owner) provided a good quote for his services (installing ceiling lights, replacing some porch railing spindles, and removing and installing a new back door and storm door). He worked quickly, offering good suggestions when they were needed, and cleaned up all the "mess" after the projects were completed. Will use this company again in the near future for additional projects.

I have had ,Tony, do three seperate jobs for me, and each was done in a timely and professional manner. Of the most obvious of the three jobs, the most notable is my front outer entry way which included replacement of bad wood and painting. I have received numerouse compliments from people who had seen what it was like before. There was no dripped paint on my porch or brick. I would highly recommend him, and intend to hire him again next year, '2015'.

I needed help w a add on at a water front lot at Lake Tawakoni. We started off framing, roof deck, Hardie siding, front porch build out, fireplace install, chimney. The interior was a Cathedral style and had engineered beams at a decent height. Turned a 30k into 275k property. Well done

Please read this story if you want to know how this company really is. I needed to do a lot to mine and husbands house my husband is 67 and I'm 61 years old so we have medical reasons for everything we needed done. We needed a bigger room for medical equipment so we decided to turn the garage in to our new room so we needed the garage door taken off and a wall framed it needed to be sheet rocked, siding on the outside, a window, french doors, and a extra spot in the wall for a AC/heater unit we needed the house cleaned and disinfected, painted in side, and out and we needed our fence replaced. So we pretty much needed a major over haul to our home because of my husbands illness. So I had already wrapped my mind around the fact that I was going to have to call a lot of different companies and I was also going to have to save and get a decent sized loan because well I don't have much money because we are on a fixed income. I had gotten a few estemates from different companies, but I almost had a heart attack when I saw how much those companies wanted for the just the fencing. Then I had a neighbor give me a card for this company owned by a young man named James. I called and set up a time for James to come out to give a estimate for just the fence because I had assumed that was all they did but I started talking to this young man and ended up discussing my husband's condition and everything that needed to be done. He told me that their company did a lot more than just fence and could do everything we needed I was completely stunned that their company did all these different things. Then I thought to myself just wait because its going to cost a arm and leg. So I let him do what he needed so we could get the estimate that I was sure was going to bring me one step closer to that heart attack. When he brought me the estimate. I was completely surprised when I saw the amount. For the price of the most expensive estimate I had received from the other companies I was able to get the fence, the cleaning, and the garage turned in to our bedroom so needless to say I hired them on the spot to do the whole house it took the crew 8 days to finish everything. On the last day I was gone for half the day so when they arrived to finish I was not there. I returned home around 1pm and I was shocked to see that the lawn had been mowed and trimmed because that was not included in the estimate and my husband was sitting in his wheelchair on the front porch with this young man James talking to him as if they had known each other for a long time. which is very unusual because my husband does not get along with very many people. Its even hard for me to get along with him sometimes let alone a complete stranger. so I asked my husband why he was outside and he told me "well all of his guys started leaving so I asked James if he would mind staying behind so he could walk me around and show me everything they had done to the house." I then asked James if my husband had asked him to add in anything because I wanted to make sure that he got paid for all of the beautiful work he did. He would not accept payment for any of the landscaping he did. It wasn't till later that I realized James even mowed the backyard and cleaned the gutters. so I decided to hire them to come out to do it on a regular basis this was 4 months ago. Now every other week he comes to check up on us and mow the yard. it wasn't until this last time that he showed what he wanted his company to stand for. James showed up like usual I took my husband out to the front so he could get some outside time and talk to James while he mowed and did what he had to do after about 2 hours James had to leave so I brought my husband in side and he said something strange he said "well I guess its been long enough." He then asked for me to go get his slippers when I handed them to him he reached in and pulled out a whole bunch of money. I was in complete disbelief at the amount of money he just handed me. I asked him where he got it he told me that when him and James were talking it had came up that we had to get a loan for the work we needed done to the house and the next time he came back he gave me the money so you could pay off the loan. then he said the money you give James for mowing well as soon as you go inside he hands it right back to me, and instantly I started to cry. God sent us such a blessing not only did we get a beautiful home, but my husband has someone he enjoys talking to. I don't think you will find a company with better values, honesty, or more caring than this company. I can honestly say I will never hire another company for anything ever again.Thank you for everything James. Sincerely, Edith & Leanord

We recently moved into a new house. There was a small screened in porch that we wanted to enclose for a dedicated office, in addition to insulating the attic and fixing odds and ends. NoPunch Construction was recommended to us and we could not have been happier. Carey is a pleasure to work with, and he even revised a couple of things to make sure that were were happy with the finished result. We would not hesitate to hire his outfit again in the future.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
