We've had a close friend as our dog/cat/house sitter for over 20 years and were a bit nervous about someone new, let alone someone we had never met! We contacted JaNeal (through Thumbtack) and arranged for a 'meet and greet' which was very reassuring. JaNeal also provided references and I had glowing feedback from both. She came again a day before we left to review detailed instructions on caring for our pets and home. During our vacation JaNeal provided updates, pictures and was readily available when we called/texted. Again, this was a first time so we probably over communicated, but she was very understanding! When we returned our house was as we left it and our animals were happy campers! We like to travel and having someone like JaNeal that we can trust with our home and pets is critical. We will definitely be using her in the future and are relieved we found her through Thumbtack!Nov 10, 2016Verified
She was so great. I always worry if my dog will be loved and cared for when I am gone. JaNeal has such a love for animals and that is so apparent. I highly recommend herOct 2, 2016
JaNeal was great to work with. She understood the nuanced needs of our diabetic cat (including how to give him shots), and was flexible with us as we re-arranged some travel plans. Look forward to hiring again!Jul 20, 2020VerifiedHappy Tails Pet Sitting's reply
Thanks so much Rosie! Hopscotch was such a sweet cat, he was a delight to come and visit!
JaNeal was wonderful, and we loved the daily pics of our pups while we were out of town.Jul 14, 2019Verified
We came home to a happy kitty and she followed our directions perfectly! We plan to use her again for future cat-sitting services.Jul 14, 2019Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Kitty Sitting: $17 per visit. Dog and Multi-Pet Sitting: $35 for the 1st dog, +$10 per dog after that. +$5 for kitties or any other small animals that may need care. For new clients: short stays i require a deposit of $50.00 and longer stays a deposit of $150.00. That holds your slot in my calendar. Travel fees: Travel fees may apply if i need to make visits back home during my lunch hour or depending on how far from Downtown you are located. Typical travel fee is $45 for a few days stay.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Typically after the initial quote is accepted, and the exact dates of the stay are confirmed, we set up a Meet & Greet. This can take place at the clients home or at a dog park if they prefer. There I meet the pets, get a rundown of their needs, and chat with the owners. If everything goes well and both the client and I feel comfortable with it we book the stay and go from there.
- How did you get started doing this type of work? When I graduated college I got a job as an intern at a local advertising agency and living in Downtown SLC on an interns salary turned out a bit harder then I thought it was going to be, so I started looking for an evening and weekend job. Well that never panned out so I set up my first profile as a dog sitter. I wasn't expecting much from it. But luckily with in a couple weeks I started getting bookings and it got to the point where I am now, haha! I'm almost always on a stay or doing drop in visits now and I love it. I wouldn't have it any other way.
